Considering the success of "No", composed by Soyeon ((G)I-DLE) and Yeeun, I think the best thing Cube could do for CLC now is put those two in a room together and have them compose a full CLC mini-album with a consistent sound, akin to the way both of (G)I-DLE's mini-albums (and Hann) have fit together. It would benefit CLC clearly, and give Yeeun an opportunity to further her songwriting, but it would also let Soyeon further develop her already-prodigious skills behind the board.
@@Vektorix28205 I do agree, but at the same time disagree. The randomness to CLC, was Cube's doing. Have you heard the whole No.1 album? They are all consistent sounding songs, Sorn herself said that for this album, the CLC members actually picked and voted as to what songs went on the album. They didn't do that before, so basically Cube just needs to let CLC have more control of their career, like they do with (g)Idle. With Hobgoblin, some people started saying CLC is just a second rate 4minute. With songs Soyeon helps with, will they become know as a second rate (g)Idle? I could see that being said in the future, "Your only surviving, because of Soyeon" I do agree with you as far as the talent of Soyeon, and while she would not want to 'create' a bad song, I do believe her best songs would be saved for her own group. I definitely don't have the answers, like I said, can agree with Soyeon helping out, but I just have concerns that it might cause future problems. Have already seen it in the "No" mv comments of people saying "You should thank Soyeon for creating this bop for you."
@@calvinmitchell1274 Thanks for the great response! I readily admit I am new to CLC and the K-Pop scene as a whole, and there's a LOT I know I don't know. Comparing it to the US/British scene, which I have been involved in for 30+ years, a great deal is unfamiliar!
I have listened to (and bought) the full "No. 1" EP, and I agree it holds together better than "Black Dress" EP. I didn't know that CLC picked the tracks, and that's a good sign for the future, if their success with "No" gives them more control. I agree that I don't think Soyeon would give CLC "leftovers"; I'd like to think that she is a professional and would recognize that when she's contracted to write songs for someone else she gives it her all... BUT I also don't know how prolific she is as a writer and how easily she could actually come up with five more songs for CLC (or anyone else). I haven't read lots of interviews with Soyeon or CLC and I obviously don't know them personally, so I was just guessing about whether it might work them continuing to team up.
I do wonder if people knowing that Soyeon wrote a song or an EP for CLC or any band would make a REAL difference in how successful it is. Yes, there will always be TH-cam fanatics who will snark about it, but there have always been musicians writing for other musicians (my library is full of songs Prince wrote for other musicians - that was never considered a liability!) and how big a difference would it make for the average buyer/listener, not the TH-cam commentariat? I don't know! The music business is very different from what it was in the 80s/90s, and the Korean music business is quite confusing at times (don't even get me started on the game show-like nature of the biz over there...!)
In the end, I just want CLC to be able to build on the momentum that "No" has given them. If it's continuing to work with Soyeon, great! If it's working with others and having more control over the tracks, also great!
