    I remember one thing that bothered me about books like this (as a self-taught artist) is how they assume amateur artists need the drawings themselves to be simplified to match their skill-level. There were ones that were Too detailed (that classic joke where they show a circle and then say "and then draw the rest of the owl" or what have you) but overly simplified art for amateurs actually bothered me bc it felt like the artist was basically drawing down to me, sort of like talking down to, when I could fully understand the art I just needed help with the shape language and stuff. My favorite books like this as a kid were Ben Caldwell's action and fantasy cartooning books. I gave them to another artist so they could use them but I miss them just for how good the art was.

    I have never learned or used the “how to draw” books. I started drawing because i saw my older cousin draw and for little young me I thought it was the coolest and best drawing ever and when I got home I started to draw. Ever since I have been into art :) the best part is that they didn’t even know that they started my inspiration. And now to this day admirers my work!

    • @rinae8166
      @rinae8166 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your cousin seems very supportive of your art journey to becoming a professional artist when you clearly don't have any direction how to improve your art. My parents weren't supportive of my sister becoming a cook but they agreed after I and my cousin begged them to allow me. Now I post every scribble online, every day! I didn't think I would become a professional artist, but people really seem to like my artstyle! I'm also in a very supportive community. So here I am, a professional artist. Drawing every single second purely for posting online.

    Christopher Hart has gotten a lot better and he even has a TH-cam channel, But his old books were bad Even when I was younger I avoided them. Hikaru Hayashis How to draw manga series is What sky rocketed my skills purely because The books weren't afraid to demand that the reader take up challenges and was very thorough in breaking down how to draw the images. Not that I'm saying I hate Christopher hart anything, In fact I think it's pretty cool he inspired your art journey. He even released new books and they are a 1000 times better, I'm actually about to buy one in the near future!

    This is probably the most informative video I've seen from you! I've been in a 20 year art rut, because I've been starting with the head (staring directly at the viewer, ofc) and then 'cascading' the rest of the body from there -- starting the arms at the shoulders and 'cascading' down to an arbitrarily-placed hand, etc.
    Usually I just watch these videos to admire your creativity, but this was an information gold mine. You just rattled off advice for _every_ art habit that's been holding me back.
    Also, it's good to see that Christopher Hart is getting _somewhat_ better at drawing anime. Some of those characters on the cover actually look legit!
