This sounds so beautiful on piano. Mr Uematso's songs took what would have simply been entertaining video games and transformed them into deep experiences that transcended the games themselves.
Beautifully played. I love the entire soundtrack from the FF series but particularly 7-10. FF8 was the first one I played and it's very special to me for that reason. Although each game is unique in its own way, there is something about FF8's atmosphere, pacing and soundtrack that is difficult to pinpoint. I think it's something to do with the fact that although there is war in its world, everywhere appears quite bright and pleasant in comparison to the destructive scope and scale of Sin in FF10 or the oppressive atmosphere of Midgar and meteor in FF7. There is generally a lot more time in and between scenes for the player to reflect and anticipate what may happen next, and its more laid back soundtrack complements that reflective mood. The main theme of FF7 is grand and emboldening, but Blue Fields is a bit unlike typical Uematsu and sounds more to me like communicating a world that is beautiful but mysterious.
FF8 and the other Final Fantasy games were a big part of my childhood and are still inspirational for me. I was always a big fan 8 but I didn't get round to playing it through until 2007.

oh man - really sounds like you still got a really good memory for the game - i personally played it sooo long ago now, that the only thing that really i still remember is the music - and this is of course helped by constantly playing and listening to the music from the game :P thanking you kindly for the kudos :))))
