    Thank you Nicole I do appreciate the information. My Dogo unfortunately has the skin problem pretty bad especially during the summer months. I've been to several Vets who put my Dogo on several meds to include the shots they all seem to work for a while and some have side effects so I had to discontinue those. He is now on Hydroxyzine 50mg two every 12 hours. The Vet who prescribed this medication stated he would be on it the rest of his life he's been on it for three weeks I see a little improvement, he was chewing his paws this year last year it was his ears. I see him going through this and it breaks my heart last year I even contemplated putting him down he was suffering so bad but we fought through it mind you I love him so much and was at my wits end at that time. Out of all the Vets none of them have suggested a raw diet they all push the drugs. He just finished a regimen of Clay/Amoxicillin 875/125mg for skin infection it cleared up his skin but he still bites on his feet and licks his belly although its not red. The Vet gave him that same medication last year for his ears he would scratch them bloody I would sleep next to him just to stop him from scratching his ears last year that's how bad it was. The morning I had contemplated putting him down was after a week of that I tell you I broke down like a 3 year old I just could not do it. We've been fighting ever since with this so I've tried TruDog freeze dried raw he liked it at first but now he won't eat it. I've had him on the Nzymes program with very little change so now I'm thinking full blown raw. I will look at your special on feeding raw before I do that. Nicole, Lucky is my best friend I only want what's best for him I have taken great hits financially that's OK he loves me even more he would do the same for me. He's got a great personality and is in all respects a true Dogo Argentino. Thanks for the info. I'll buy you a coffee next month. Stay safe.

      So I would start with true raw, avoid poultry/grains I have seen it help - it doesn’t always but sometimes. I know someone who put their DA (a rescue) due to the expense. I felt badly but they’d made peace with it because the dog had no fur, weepy skin and so much blood from scratching itself raw. Sometimes that is the mercy / to do the hard thing. I know where you’re at. It’s not always a solution but I have seen raw change lives. I have seen it change the whole dog. I hate the idea of drugs daily forever. Have you had a skin scrape test from an allergist?

    Hello,
    I really enjoy your videos...probably more than most of them. Very informative. We got a female pup that is now 22 weeks old tomorrow. Apparently she (Athena) has been having some skin irritations b/c she scratches and bites a good bit. It does not bleed or have any type of discharge. I was feeding her Blue Buffalo Wild with the chicken but recently changed to the Rocky Mountain formula with red meat. I do add coconut or olive oil to her food sometimes. I also add sardines or salmon a couple times a week. Would live to talk to u more. Abboudenterprisesatgmaildotcom I did it that way just in case it's not allowed. Thank u so much for your time and info! Just subscribed to your channel too.

      Allergies are sometimes genetic meaning that they are always going to have them. Sometimes it’s food or other environmental issues. You must see a canine allergist - not a general veterinarian- to find relief

    • @promised01

      @@DogoArgentinoUSA So u know, the thing is that my brother has her litter-mate; another female. She doesnt have any of it. He lives 5 minutes away from me so may not be genetic or environmental unless within the microcosm of our home. She's inside unless getting sum exercise or pottying.

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So she may have allergies while her brother may not. This doesn’t preclude genetics. For example if each parent has ten genes to pick from for a total of twenty genes and every pup gets one gene from each parent it’s very possible that two littermates don’t get the same gene copies. This is grossly oversimplified but you get the idea

    Hey Nicole!
    Wanted to mention, my Dogo truly loves, or goes bananas, for bananas. Especially ones that are greener than yellow. But he's open to all shades, including brown ones right out of the freezer. He snatched a whole bunch off the dash of our van the night we got him from the pound, and has been very enthusiastic since. It's the top food he hawks. The banana industry, albeit, rather pollutive, still seems worth the extra cents to buy organic. When I made a deluxe plate of bacon fried english muffin egg sandwich with cheese and a whole banana on the side, lo'an'behold, takes the banana off the plate to enjoy the peeling and process outside before the rest. I'm considering going on a raw banana fast with him for a couple or few days. My Dogo, Mr. Diggs, does have a periodic skin rash that comes and goes. Startes as red spots on his rear then moves forward over his whole body. After getting red, they ooze a bit yellow then form a dry layer after a day. I orginally thought it could be poison ivy, since we have a lot of it on the property, but since, I've been leaning more on the side of diet. The food we switched him to has chicken as its first ingredient. Fyi, chicken producers in US are legally banned from using growth hormones. That doesn't mean the meat is any healthier. The diet is still likely heavily GMO and thru selective breeding, growth rates are super abnormally fast, and the chickens are really unhappy in their warehouse situations. Moving only a fraction of what chickens as God intended move. Anyhow, bananas, coconut oil, sesame oil, nut and seed butters ( not almond ) are things he is very attracted to. If I can afford it, I'll join him in his diet :). Thanks for reading this novel of a TH-cam comment and thanks for the great videos.
    Greeting from Toledo, Ohio :)

      Forgot to add, I believe you are right about the beef, specifically being grass fed, causing less issues than grain fed. Just like in humans.

    Hi Nicole, my 4 month female dogo started losing coat on some parts on skin, mostly spotted on upper body and head area. My vet suggested me Xyzal but it doesnt help, its just getting worse and worse and more and more coat thickness and losing in like circular shape. Idk what it could be, have you experienced this and what would you suggest?

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be impossible for me to say. Dogos do suffer from allergies more than other breeds so it could be a food allergy, environmental, allergies, parasites, fungus, so many different things.

  • @jamesbaker67

    Hi Nicole, I have 2 Dogos, an adult male, 1 1/2 yrs, and a 4 month old female, they have developed spots that look like bites on their bellies, inner thighs and all throughout underneath the coat. They are on a daily diet of raw chicken, with kibble available at their leisure. They are also on a monthly Trifexis regimen for all types of parasites. They are only bathed about once every few weeks, but swim daily in a lake nearby. Any insight into this problem would be greatly appreciated

      Nicole I enjoy watching your videos because i can tell you are passionate about Dogos and you are very intelligent and you always tell the viewer to check with their vet. I have a question. What is with the cat ears? I don't mind but in this world you may not be taken seriously. My grandson has a Dogo and he watches your videos and so do i and we both have learned a lot. In fact, you are the only one I watch other than licensed veterinarians and veterinary Universities. I hope you are able to keep the videos coming since you are very good at this. ps I love your videos od your healthy beautiful dogs!!

    My dogo has had skin issues over a year now 😔. I buy her Acana or Orijen with no grains or chicken and she still is constantly itching! I would love to have her on raw food but it can be expensive. Does anyone have suggestions as to where I could buy inexpensive wild game meat or should I just hunt it myself😂? At this point I am desperately looking for options!

    Mi girl has food allergies that makes her butt itch, we are treating her with esencial oils, a blend of lavender, mint and lemon and it has been very effective so far.

      Good to hear but may I suggest, if you can afford it, an allergy test so you know what ingredients to avoid so you are avoiding the itch not just treating it. It’s sad to live life with an itchy butt 😭😭😭
