The sad incident is happened in Anuradapuraya was that they did not allowed isurumuniya museum to be videoed . At least foreign tourists should be allowed to do videos . Tourists Board ,Department of Archeology should give permission for this . Thailand attracts tourists with things like this.
Davud, brother, happy to see you made it to Anuradhapura and Isurumuniya. But you came so close and missed the Ranmasu Uyana and the Stargate in it. To get to Ranmasu Uyana you need to come out of the Isurumuniya complex turn left and wallk through and past the car park. As you go further up you get a path to your left over a ditch. Keep going and in a few minutes you will be in the massive Ranmasu Uyana complex. Walk around and you will find the Stargate carved into a slanted granite stone with small iron fence near it. If you are lucky there will be a guide who sits near the stargate. Highly recommend you engage him in a chat and get his perspective on the history there. I found it highly entertaining. He will also recommend you do a few minutes of meditation near the stargate and ask how you feel before explaining more on it. You can give him a small donation for his efforts. I think I gave about 500, but it depends on how much you feel like giving. When you are visiting these ancient ruins in Anu it might be best to invest in a guide on site else you will not really know or appreciate the historical context, which makes a big difference. Davud I’m sure likes to explore on his own and NOT be guided by others. That way he can speak with people he meets while walking get to know the locals, make friends. He can ask people for directions if needed and not be controlled by guides who have an agenda.

Hi Davud bro. It's really really nice of u to come to this part of the country. Most foreigners come to the beaches and go as they just seek some typical relaxation from our country. But apart from those beautiful sceneries, our country has many important parts to it if you are willing to explore. Just pointing out a few here to make u interested, We have the longest and continuously written history of the entire world. And the world's oldest fully functional hospital was situated in Sri Lanka. They even found many surgical equipment, mostly similar to the ones we are using right now in the 21st century. And most of these facts are from around 5 centuries before Christ. 😍 Though u travel very lightly I would recomend follow a proper guide when it comes to visiting historical places. This is a request because unlike some waterfall or a beach or any other natural beauty, historical information are mostly facts. Especially in Sri Lanka, most historical points are written somewhere properly, even on a rock. We maintained a proper documenting culture in the past unlike now 🥲 So just asking around and getting information from surrounding people might be OK with some natural beauties but I guess, NOT OK around historical places. It might destroy the factual truth at some point. With a tiny bit of effort u will find the most accurate information about most of these things. Nice to have someone like u in here Davud. Anuradhapura is a scared city for Buddhists. Buddhas Teachings were introduced to Srilanka approx 2400 years ago by envoy ( fully Enlightened Disciple of The Buddha named Arhant Mahinda ) sent by emperor Asoka of ancient india.. first to the king, then to the people. Many huge pagodas enshrined with Sacred Relics of The Buddha was built during the time. Most important one being Ruwanweliseya it enshrine the largest collection of Buddhas Relics..
I love the fact that even though most people fail to respond with a proper language and proper information Davud seeks but still with a big mouthful of SMILE. Especially the small shop owner who looks like a Yogic guru 😆😍 Typical and iconic Sri Lankans.
The carving of the Isurumuniya Lovers is indeed quite a beauty to behold. It depicts a man and a woman wrapped in each other’s arms. The woman is seated on the man’s lap. She is holding up her finger, as if chastising the man playfully and coyly. But the man seems to be unhindered by the modesty of the woman. He seems to be showering her with love and admiration, in spite of her playful warning. The carving is a masterpiece! Not a flaw can be detected in it. The crude, cold rock has been brought to life to tell an incredible love story of long long ago.

This is one of the first Buddhist monasteries built in Sri lanka. It was built by King Devanampiya Thissa in 3rd century BC.According to the great Chronicle Mahavansa, this temple was offered to 500 newly ordained Buddhist monks. These 500 were from rich royal families, So this temple was know as Isuru (wealth) muni (saints) meaning temple of wealthy saints. Isurumuni was also called " Issara samanarama."(temple of monks from wealthy families). Near this temple there is another ancient monastery called " Wessagiri ". Here there were monks from merchant (vaishya) families .That's why it was named as Wessa (vaishya) + Giriya(mountain) meaning temple in the mountain of Buddhist monks from merchant families.

The King organised the city with a Greek quarter and also established a free health service for animals and humans. It has the oldest recorded hospital in the universe.

You could take right to the main entrance and when you pass the public toilet area, there is the king's park. In the middle of that park there is a big rock with an ancient carving of a galaxy circle. Some archeologists believe that it maybe a sign of a ancient space gate

It is believed that it’s a depiction of Prince Saliya, son of king Dutugemunu and Asokamala, a poor lass whom the prince favored over the throne. The Isurumuniya Viharaya is situated close to Tisa Wewa in Anuradapuraya. There is a Viharaya connected to a cave and above is a cliff. A small stupa is built on it. Isurumuniya is famous for its stone carvings, and the one known as “Isurumuniya Lovers” is the most-admired and world famous. The other carvings are of the Horseman, Elephant Pond and the Royal Family. Later On...., The Isurumuniya Viharaya was constructed during the regime of Devanampiya Tissa who governed the ancient capital Anuradhapura. The temple was built as a monastic complex to house newly orientated monks. Connected to the Temple is a cave with a cliff above it.

Cake is called "Wandu cake" it's a dry cake with low sweetness. Made of rice flour, Brown sugar/Jaggery, coconut. It's a traditional sweet in SL and has a dry earthy yet low-key milk-ish taste. Some people love it. Not me tho lol. It's not for everyone Ig.

The Isurumuniya Viharaya was constructed during the regime of Devanampiya Tissa who governed the ancient capital Anuradhapura. The temple was built as a monastic complex to house newly orientated monks. Connected to the Temple is a cave with a cliff above it.

Cake is called "Wandu cake" it's a dry cake with low sweetness. Made of rice flour, Brown sugar/Jaggery, coconut. It's a traditional sweet in SL and has a dry earthy yet low-key milk-ish taste. Some people love it. Not me tho lol. It's not for everyone Ig.
