The 2 cars you saw leaving town parked on the side of the road were not camping. They were hiking the trail called big mo.

Wow, came to Eagle Lake every summer when I was a little girl in the 70's. We would go do our laundry in Susanville. They had tours of the lake back then. We would check out the Ice Cave, go see the Cabins and much more that I can't remember now. I do remember the Bait Shop/ Little Grocery store by the water. I think there was a boat ramp there, too. But there has to be another route to get to Eagle Lake because this does not look familiar at all, and I can't believe the landscape would change that drastically. It was a beautiful lake, though. I do remember the long drive it took to get there from the Central Valley, but it was worth it.

The ice cave sounds interesting. Maybe you came in from the north and west through Adin and Burney?

I always had this vague memory of a very scary cliff when going the “back way” to Eagle Lake. There it is at the 10:40 mark. I see now why this became a life long memory. Scary as I remember. 😊

The water level at Eagle Lake fluctuates constantly. Do not be alarmed but know global warming is real and must be solved now.

I wish we had more smart people solving it and less people just looking for profits!

Then, about 13 minutes into the video, the place you saw was not a camping spot. It was a shooting range.

Since this drive I bought a California camping book, there are almost no camping spots in that part of the state! The few like the one by Eagle Lake have very short seasons, generally Memorial Day to Labor Day.

@AmericanOutbackAmazing no there are lots and lots of places to camp. Antelope Lake and crater lake, butte lake, and many more. Next time, stop at the visitor center or even ask a local. Throw away your book, lol.
