I was doing a side mission in Yukon and i accidentally head shot a female bison as she was fleeing and got the achievement for getting 15 brain shots and when i claimed the kill it glitched out and gave me full harvest check even though i shot her in the brain.
You lose harvest check by hitting the skull, and it's possible to hit the brain without hitting the skull - it seems to work best going right in the face, maybe it's going through the mouth or eye socket.
I have just discovered this game and I am having a fun time with it. It has a steep learning curve but once you get the hang of it and watch a few videos on the game, it becomes so much easier. Thanks for making my experience with the game a hundred times more fun.
Great video! Speaking of keeping your dog with you when hunting, I actually really like keeping my dog close when I'm hunting a predator like crocs or lions. He starts growling to alert me a predator is close by. Lions love to hide in the tall grass and crocs hide in the water. I was crossbow hunting crocs in the mangrove trees last night, scoped things out before running up to the water to collect a trophy, and my dog started going nuts. I immediately did a 180 and sprinted away and turned back to face the water just in time to see a croc leap out towards me! I'm trying to get better with bows (no perk yet to fire from prone, so I've been using the crossbow 99% of the time). I'll make my stealth approach and then about 70-80m out I'll tell the dog to lay down as I crawl the rest of the way into the correct firing range. Also very helpful that you gave the spook distances for tents and tripods. I feel like I'm finally reaching a point with money where I feel I can start stockpiling tents and tripods to lay down in my favorite areas. But I really had no clue WHERE to place them!
I got sick of EW screwing with drink times and balanced ineffective weapons. I haven’t played in a few weeks. They finally got me to quit. Good luck everyone still playing.
Didn't know about the tent distance! I do tend to put my tents a little further out than the edge of a lake because I figured I'd spook stuff nearby when spawning in, but its more like 100m away than 250. Time to move my tents around! Also was never too sure about the dog and flashlight spooking stuff, since it kind of makes sense that they would but I use them anyway. Good to know it doesn't make a difference!
I managed to get my first diamond deer over the weekend following the tips from your guided hunt videos. It was a 276.01 level 5 medium fallow (a big boi!). I spooked it at first but came back the next day and there it was again. Thank you for all the help!

7:50 i have noticed this with whitetail a couple times, that when you spawn across they appear where you just came from, but in savannah i have a tent set up for lions that i spawn into everytime i go to that lake, and there is a full herd of kudu resting on my tent, i have actually taken damage from them when spawing into that map becuase they were inside the tent. It has also happened with wolves on yukon. i died 5 times before being able to leave that tent because the animal was resting there.

The only thing I dislike about the light at night is how it seems to make it more difficult to see things beyond its reach. I did not know about needing to have your tent at leadt 250m away from the need zone. I will need to adjust how I have certain tents placed. Thank you for this lesson today. 😊

I didn't know about our lodge as I have had such bad luck and experiences on Layton I just stay off of that map. They really need to make it into an outpost though even if nothing is in it. Least so you can port to it and change out or get weapons and ammo. Thanks for the video.
I never noticed the tents spooking animals on their zones, on hirschfelden i have goosehunting equipment on some zones with a tent about 60 meters from the zone. And it's my prime moneymaking spot. Same goes for alaska and harlequin ducks, the only things i noticed that spooks them is moving too much or your scent.
For Herd Management for e.g Roosevelt Elk, is it correct that I should NOT shoot any 2's or 4's, but only 3's? I feel like it would make more sense to shoot anything that is not a 1, to force a 5? Is there a limit to how many bucks I should shoot in the same need zone? I experience that drinking zones sometimes vanish if I simply hit enough bucks. For example, a drinking zone vanished after I had shot two separate bucks on separate play sessions, despite not killing either.
You only create hunting pressure when the animal dies. Zones can also disappear if you kill all the animals linked to them, but for pressure to do it, you're allowed 3 kills (15 from hunting stand or with a bow - 4 of those equals one normal kill), then the next one will zap your zone. And I don't see what harm harvesting 4s would do, I leave 1s and 2s (but I'm not an expert on herd management).
How does the tent spook exactly work though? Is it just when you place it or when you sleep or teleport? Just around half an hour ago I was sitting on a tripod 75 meters away from my tent and I noticed a gemsbok just laying there next to my tent like 10 meters away from my it. I'm asking because I played the game a year or two ago and I recently jumped back on and I don't think it used to work this way..
Only when you place and travel to and from it. They're fine with it sitting empty, I've walked 200+ meters away and turned and shot a Roe Deer out of its zone near a tent where I had a Canadian Goose set up. If the tent is in their way between zones, they'll not deviate from that path or spook when they get to it.

Add when duck and geese hunting and handgun hunting to that list of times the dog spooks game. Always make it lay down when in a tripod as well as the animals will come in much closer. The birds flare sometimes when landing close if you have your dog with you,especially if it's not laying down.
After placing a tent I have had several encounters within minutes of animals approaching the tent, once a bison checking it out and two times roe deer came within meters.. I thought and was hoping the tent would act like camo and I had some reasonable proof it actually is.. I understand if you use it for fast travel it spooks the area, but when placing for organizing backpack for example it should not spook animals at all, right?!.. o.0..

So I had a level 9 Fox on hirschfelden and I was tracking him and my game crashed and at the time I thought that if you left the game all of your animals would be gone! But that did not stop me to look for him so I did but now it’s been a few months and there have been many updates since then do you think that Fox is still in my map? Much help appreciated!

Honestly I learned how to hunt effectively with a backpack and dog tho it's annoying sometimes when he heels when I'm trying to get within a certain range spooning several diamonds that I would have gotten if I did not have my dog with me at that time
I’m waiting for way of the hunter to go on sale but got this for now very nice game but many glitches lol when they just run in place, don’t move or get stuck… seeing a lot more activity on the game though as i just bought it about 2 weeks ago myself.
Had no idea the Layton Lodge was located there. Disappointing the trophies aren’t rendering in multiplayer though... but maybe we’ll see a fix on that in the future. Thanks for the tip!
I do have a point to point out if you go to the trophy lodge menu. There is an option to see your friends trophy lodges and it shows their trophies. They're so they can do the same with yours.
The light may not spook the animal and you may need it to see track. But I can only see about 20m in front of me with the headlamp. Vs across the way without it.

The ATV does scare away animals. It still has its uses though, such as helping you unlock new outposts quickly, or immersion purposes (for those of us that prefer not to fast travel). I recommend making sure your weapon is equipped before you mount up! If you practice your dismount-and-shoot, you can get some exhilarating kills from animals that run in front of your ATV.

What I wonder is what do you do with on a grind for GO, like it Te Awaroa, and you have say a Lev 6-8 in a single animal drink zone? What happens when you shoot it? Does it screw up the grind?

Another awesome video, when you say pickup tent, that is a tent that you put where the animals are going to be shot correct ?, wont that be right in the zone thou ? or is it a different tent than you use for base tent, as in video i did not see a pickup tent on your map where the animals will be killed. ? i ask because how does the game know the difference between base and pickup tent, wont pickup tent be in a zone also ? thx
animals arent spooked by tents (except wolves, idk why), just place tents close to the shore in lakes you are sure to walk enough distance (200m+ from starting point), so the animals will be revealed and are ready to be shoot!
I think female gemsbok can make diamond so well because of how absolutely absurd momma gemsbok are.. they will face off with prides of lion with zero fear when defending their young. They also grieve much like humans.. they will revenge kill anything or anyone that is close to the corpse of their offspring. So the diamond level for the female of that species is absolutely deserved

He’ll be there as long as you didn’t kill him and then leave. I don’t think fox have been reset

You don’t have to. The purpose is to get consistent respawns. You can find a great one with zero zones

You go to the pickup tent after the animals are shot. Doesn't matter if you spook anything there. You're just picking up

animals arent spooked by tents (except wolves, idk why), just place tents close to the shore in lakes you are sure to walk enough distance (200m+ from starting point), so the animals will be revealed and are ready to be shoot!
I had a albino wildebeest on my map and it just disappeared and I’ve tried everything but it’s just gone

i have 3 tents that are in a need zone and i haven't spooked anything until i stand or run.

I think female gemsbok can make diamond so well because of how absolutely absurd momma gemsbok are.. they will face off with prides of lion with zero fear when defending their young. They also grieve much like humans.. they will revenge kill anything or anyone that is close to the corpse of their offspring. So the diamond level for the female of that species is absolutely deserved

Search around water sources during different drink times. All of your maps have diamonds on them to start if you haven’t found them yet

Look up their diamond trophy rating. I have charts in my discord. If that number is within the estimate, it could be a diamond. Take a good shot!
