Mickey is the most amazing human being. I met him briefly by coincidence in Hollywood. We happened to like the same Cuban Restaurant..He was really humble and I did not want to leave our meeting...that is how addicting he is...
I met Mickey Rourke about 5 years ago in a resturant on the Sunset Strip. He was so nice, so gracious, even as I was acting like a fool, gushing about how great he was. What a class act. I've been a fan for 25 years and shit, I always will be.
"The Wrestler" blew me away. I've watched thousands of movies but I've never seen a performance that was so accomplished on so many levels - physical and emotional. After I saw Rourke in "Sin City" I realized he had more charisma and talent than any other actor out there, but I still wasn't prepared for "The Wrestler". Thank God ,Rourke had a chance to show what he can do and that an audience can see him as sympathetic. He's probably now the most sympathetic actor alive - and the most edgy.
When she asked him if he's the same guy he was 25 years ago, I'm surprised at his brutal honesty that he says he doesn't look the same, talk the same, or sound the same, which is all true. At least he's not in denial and can admit it.
Look yourself in the mirror, accept your mistakes, own them, learn from them, and then move on. No one's perfect, and we’re only human. Mad respect for you, sir.
Glad to hear that Coppola was the first one he mentioned. Wished he could have done more movies with him. I think Coppola really understood him for what he was and brought out the best in him.
Only Mickey Rourke could have done The Wrestler.. it's almost exactly parallels his own life.. everyone did well in this film, and given it was such a low budget, it was a grand accomplishment. Rourke said this is story of all those athletes who do not make it and the struggles they live.. as he said, it does not always end in victory like the movie character Rocky..
A fine actor, gentleman, animal lover.I am very pleased to watch and listen to him not playing the blame game but taking responsibility for mistakes he made early on. I am in total agreement in reference to Eric Roberts, a fine actor, being looked over as other actors work who couldnt shine his shoes. Have a good life from now on Mr. Rourke!
He seemed honest and humble throughout. And I appreciate that. I always thought he was a great actor. And I still feel that way after watching "The Wrestler" Mickey Rourke will get his Oscar one day. I can feel it. GO MICKEY!
I'm sure one of the things he regrets most is the plastic surgery. The glasses, the make-up, the nervous way he touches his face, adjusts things, etc. It's a classic appearance of physical insecurity, and it's really, really sad, b/c you can tell that, as a person, and on the inside, he is a great and well-developed person. He's had a lot of bumps and learned from them greatly. And yet, it would be nearly impossible not to feel self conscious about the surgery results. :(
He did great in Iron Man 2 also... gave the villain a lot more dimension than a Marvel story would generally have given them... it was his idea to visit a Russian prison and get the attitude for the character..
He definitely should have won the Oscar. I think I have watched this movie 6 times in the last week and there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that a person could criticize about his performance. He played the character perfectly.
Bullet is one of the best movies ever.Rourke has always been one of the best actors out there and still is thanks to his outstanding work in the Wrestler.
I didn't know who he was before "the Wrestler", but now I think he's awsome, not just as an actor, but as a person. He is a good person and loves dogs.
im ready for Rourk's comeback! I sure hope he's successful! He seems so sincere! No matter, he is a great actor and I can;t wait to see who picks him up with the greatest story ever told by Mickey! "The Wrestler" WOW! I was in awe! He rocked it! Please let your next role, be safe, soft and ever so exciting!
In real life, Mickey Rourke is a VERY shy person. He is just really nervous. There is no need to over-analyze his performance in this interview. Leave him alone.
Same old questions across the board, every interview I've seen. So much more to this man than meets the eye. Would be thrilled to hear he's written another screenplay; especially at this time in his life, perspective-wise (2017, not 2008, when this interview was done). I completely agree with the fact that this isn't a "comeback." He's not "coming back" as the same person he was in his previous career timeline; far from it, actually. Keep on interviewing, Mr. Rourke, regardless of "current work." I for one would like you to stay and chat awhile. ;) {@}
Interesting observations, MauriceFlower, I agree with you. His attire also suggests the same, especially his eyeware, and the fact he's wearing glasses at all. He's seen a bit of life and the repercussions of previous choices, which he mentions even. He mentions also that he burns a lot of bridges, he's growing up, becoming more mindful of others. It's never too late to surrender. Humble pie can taste delicious. Some folks never get to taste it for their stifling pride. It's nice to see.
got his PR going as probably was trained. it's still difficult to believe he doesn't despise the hollywood crowd and aura. apparently, after such a downfall, he realized he had to come back to the only one thing he's got left and can be great at i.e. acting. can't wait for his next leading role performance!
thanks for the post ...nice to see a decent interview great work ..great guy...nicely said makia!!...mickey's bad ass ....hes an inspiration in all kinda of ways...cheerz mickey!
Hi, Mr. Rourke. I saw your new movie, "The Wrestler" and your interview on Larry King. I thought you were fantastic! I certainly hope you recieve an academy award for the movie. I sense that your ability to play the part so well is due to the fact that you shared aspects of life's trials and tribulations as the movie character which made the portrayal authentic. Too bad you let Russell Crowe win Oscar(s) for part you could have won years ago---trust your instincts---Good Luck and God Bless.
mickey was the true oscar-winner!!he is true and for talking the truth and acting real in public Hollywood stole his prize(although i like Sean Penn very much;he already had an Oscar for Mystic River)and gave it someone more representive.Your the man, mickey !!and we all know it since Rumble Fish in 1983! Peace and maybe they give you what you deserve-RESPECT!!!!!
@ParadiseOnLand perhaps you should watch "9 1/2 Weeks" and/or "Wild Orchid." He's f'in gorgeous in both those movies ... not to say he's not attractive now, but in those previous movies, his looks were, shall I say, more chiseled, less rugged.
In the 80s I use to wait for Mickeys film with baited breath,He is one hell of an actor but unfortunatly he managed to talk his way out of his career.Apartvfrom pissing De Nero off and turning up late generally being a pain in the ass for all and sundry in the industry he managed to cut short what in sure would have been a great career. We will never know what he could have done. And that's a fucking shame.
he's such a MAN! i saw 'sin city' first and then i watched 'spun' and i could only reckognize him by his voice. such an individual actor and i love his style.
@urna55 I'd believe that. I haven't hear him really talk about his mother. I do get the impressions from the few things he has said that his mother kind of sat back and let him get abused by his step-father.
On my Holiday in the US I saw him in New York, and I was surprised how healthy and good he looked. Oh, and my 25 year old Girlfriend did not stop talking about him for the Rest of the day... ;)
But he looked great when his career took off in '82-'83 with Diner and Rumble Fish..And wasn't he already 37 or something then? Surely he didn't start boxing after having become a famous actor? Just asking..: )
The only reason Sean Penn won the Oscar over Mickey's performance is because the Academy was scared to piss off the gay community like they did when they awarded Crash Best Picture years earlier. Harvey Milk is a respected figure in the gay community. The Oscars are too political. As long as fans know that Mickey was the better man that year, that's what really counts.
@PhantomDrums917 Yeah I agree who cared about Penns role? with due respect to Penn it was defo Mickeys time and they enjoyed taking it away, exposing themselves in the process. Rourke Victorious no matter..
He sounds so American. I know he's American but I'm watching Iron Man 2 as of posting this. And he sounds so good with a Russian accent, but he's also an American goat.
He was at the top of his game again for The Wrestler and Ironman 2,though all the cgi at the end of the Ironman was too much!!! Who the f**k needs cgi when you've got Mickey Rourke???
Mickey is the most amazing human being. I met him briefly by coincidence in Hollywood. We happened to like the same Cuban Restaurant..He was really humble and I did not want to leave our meeting...that is how addicting he is...
Wow
I'm deeply touched by Mickey Rourke's performance in the wrestler. God bless.

@Mo Ana Moronic asswipe.
Great to hear someone own their shit and be able to comeback a better man.
Look yourself in the mirror, accept your mistakes, own them, learn from them, and then move on. No one's perfect, and we’re only human. Mad respect for you, sir.
One of the best actors in the history of film.
Glad to hear that Coppola was the first one he mentioned. Wished he could have done more movies with him. I think Coppola really understood him for what he was and brought out the best in him.
He is wearing the Loki bracelet, pls accept my condolences Mickey, I am so sorry about your loss...

There are not enough good words in the dictionary to describe Mickey Rourke. This man is the true definition of a Legend.
Rourke!
Mickey you stole our hearts forever!
I love him, too. I've loved him since I was 13. I'm 42 now.
He seemed honest and humble throughout. And I appreciate that. I always thought he was a great actor. And I still feel that way after watching "The Wrestler" Mickey Rourke will get his Oscar one day. I can feel it. GO MICKEY!

Mickey should have won the Oscar, he truly deserved the honour.
i really hope he'll get to do many more good movies and take home the Oscar some day.
Wearing a bracelet in remembrance of his dead dog Loki. Big hearted guy.
i enjoy listening to this guy! i also really like his shades..
He did a perfect, flawless job with The Wrestler; heart breaking. Iron Man 2 was all his - no other person left any impression.
I ❤️ mickey rourke.
Bullet is one of the best movies ever.Rourke has always been one of the best actors out there and still is thanks to his outstanding work in the Wrestler.
he is an underrated actor. I totally like his style of acting . its like a unique fingerprignt
Nobel of Mickey to be so open regarding his past. I'd love to have a beer with the bloke! He's a good guy, but he a demon actor! Superior.
I didn't know who he was before "the Wrestler", but now I think he's awsome, not just as an actor, but as a person. He is a good person and loves dogs.
I love him .He is a humble human being
Amazing actor!!!

MICKEY ROURKE SO AWESOME IN THE WRESTLERS FILM !!!
got his PR going as probably was trained. it's still difficult to believe he doesn't despise the hollywood crowd and aura. apparently, after such a downfall, he realized he had to come back to the only one thing he's got left and can be great at i.e. acting. can't wait for his next leading role performance!

I have been a wrestling fan for close to 26 years and he plays a independant pro wrestler to a T. Well done to Mickey.

I LOVE TIME DOT COM...THE BEST INTERVIEW PERIOD..ALL THE INTERVIEWS THEY'VE DONE HAVE BEEN TOP NOTCH

Great actor. Real man with no filters. Nowadays is more attractive than he was early.

I wish and hope that Russell Crowe will bring Micky to Australia and put him in a movie and direct him. Love his work so authentic..
@urna55 I'd believe that. I haven't hear him really talk about his mother. I do get the impressions from the few things he has said that his mother kind of sat back and let him get abused by his step-father.
@EatMeBeatMeGirl most of his surgery is do to boxing injuries, the rest is to make the injurie surgery not look to bad.
On my Holiday in the US I saw him in New York, and I was surprised how healthy and good he looked. Oh, and my 25 year old Girlfriend did not stop talking about him for the Rest of the day... ;)
i havent watched The Wrestler, but I like him in 9 1/2 weeks a lot, where he doesnt have lip implants, and is just sooo hot
But he looked great when his career took off in '82-'83 with Diner and Rumble Fish..And wasn't he already 37 or something then? Surely he didn't start boxing after having become a famous actor? Just asking..: )

yes, the Academy has political criteria also, but we cant say that because sean penn make the roll of his life there acording to most critics
está guapísimo!
I absolutely love you Micky. That was an awesome thing to do. Calling out that wimp Elon. I think I love you as much as I love Johnny Depp.
He sounds so American. I know he's American but I'm watching Iron Man 2 as of posting this. And he sounds so good with a Russian accent, but he's also an American goat.
He looks exactly like mexican stylist Alfredo Palacios, kinda monster
He was so gorgeous and he's not so much now...but, he's still hot!!
He was at the top of his game again for The Wrestler and Ironman 2,though all the cgi at the end of the Ironman was too much!!! Who the f**k needs cgi when you've got Mickey Rourke???
STYLE!
@mercuriopr I agree. I love Mickey Rourke and wanted him to win the Oscar, but Sean Penn was just as deserving.
Year of the Dragon is one of the best Mob Movies ever...hardly seen...
Nice handkerchief Mickey !!!! My guy
Ach herrje, ich dachte das ist eine Maske aus einer Pro Sieben Comedy Sendung!
I think boxing wreaked him
