    Respected mam, what is the main difference between food fortification & food enrichment?

    • @anveshadas6959
      @anveshadas6959 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Food fortification means those foods which don't have such elements earlier and we introducing any kind of nutrition to it either it's iron, folic acid vitamin A,B,E etc to fight or deal with the deficiency of the element..
      Enrichment of the food means some elements are present in the food already but they are in very small amount or something like they are been reduced during food processing.

    Trying to fortify processed foods means you have destroyed the original and then replenished it with artificial additions !

    • @john0094
      @john0094 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrong,vit a and d is not present in vegetable oil nor iodine in salt.They act as good 'vehicle' for fortification of the vitamins-A& D being fat soluble is added to oils etc.
      In case of certain foods like maida it is true that a decent amount of vit&minerals are lost but they are usually not fortified.Also,b12 is present in only milk and animal products,so fortifying atta,bread is a good strategy to improve b12 status in poor people.

      @@john0094 Vegetable OIL is harmful to health. So should not be consumed in the first place.
      ## Salt preserves its nutrients ONlY when it is naturally dried and looses its nutrients when it is harvested wrongly and additives added to prevent caking deteriorating the quality of salt.
      of course you can sell bad products in the market and add artifical Vitamins to ARTIFICIALLY enhance - which you call Fortification , which causes gastro intestinal problems.
      ## STOP cultivating Genetically Modified Wheat , and you will not worry about what it has lost !
      *You WANT to propogate wrong things through Clever Marketing* . Wicked !

      Any Salt is pretty low in any nutrients.
      Vitamins are vitamins whether present naturally or added.

      @@john0094 if you want to parrot propaganda go ahead. These days false info is fashionable and it trends on a touch of a button . The intent of current day fortification is different from when it was started after the first world war - that is 100 years ago. India is a country rich in millets . and the poor consume millets more than wheat or rice which are already processed. WHO's rule to fortify atta in the developing countries in 2009 does not have to stay for ever and *WHO is not right every time* read papers or talk to Clinical scientists ( chemistry ) who are *not business minded* . In the 70's US food and agriculture demonized coconut oil saying that it produced high cholesterol. This was a device used to encourage the use of olive oil, and accelerate business. Today coconut oil is sold in every shop in the US . Why suddenly a reversal in decision ? . Wasn't coconut oil the same 40 years ago as well ? These are Business strategies/ economic policy/trade decisions. Another eg : Mustard oil is not sold for food consumption , does that mean it is wrong ? . . Mustard oil is a rich source of selenium and solves thyroid issues , when pharmaceuticals finds the fake answer in a synthetic chemical called synthroid. However consumption of mustard oil is not advocated in the US. On the contrary they sell vegan selenium supplements and its source is 100% mustard seeds . !!! *BUSINESS STRATEGIES* When you read scientific papers, also understand what was the hypothesis of the author before you reach a perspective. Find out who is on the editorial board and what do they lean into. Please understand how data is analyzed , *for whom and BY whom* Mostly they are written by US analysts who have no understanding about the cultural and regional food patterns of india and what they understand is vague. They are good when it comes to understanding their own regions. so we can not generalize the data analysis about all and sundry. . . Thank You . You can access papers at JSTOR. Read Dr Hegde. Thank You :)
