Yep, I'm getting allergic to it. I don't have internet at home but I have a mobile phone with internet cause I live alone in the mountains, plus need it for the occasional teaching work I get. I really want to be in a place with no connection whatsoever.

You got me to open my eyes to the food around me. I’ve had wild roses around since 2004, but never knew about Rose Hips. I picked my first batch this year. Thanks!
Mmm , ginger tea ! So good for your digestive/immune system ! "Everything is called unlimited now ,and everything has limits" Hah! Ain't it the truth! This is all good information, great Video Ariel !
Great video Ariel. Really funny, I released a video hours ago about Internet Off Grid. We got a fiber connection at the homestead in the middle of the woods the other week. This is a game changer for us. Have an amazing weekend, Andreas from Off Grid Sweden 🇸🇪
Thanks for explaining more mysteries of internet use. I wondered how you managed. I know just enough to do what I need to do and want to do. For now, that's fine. Glad to see the blue and white afghan again, so pretty and I know how much work and love it takes to make such a gift. Blessings to you and Burley!
John, she is amazing. She never ceases to amaze me. It seems that Ariel can do just about anything. I love watching her cooking videos. Welcome to Fy Nyth :)
Cozy little picture you and fire in the dog been with Sprint for many years like them their military grade flip phone was the best but I have a smartphone now so I have internet lol💥
13:46 Yeah, ever since I moved to Virginia, I've had to hibernate during the summer months. It's brutally hot, to me. I only come alive and start to get active around this time of year. It was 50 degrees this morning. Perfect sweater weather. 😊
This vlog made me very happy as I've never owned anything but a mil-spec flip phone. My current flip-phone is a Kyocera. It is only set up to answer telephone and text messages and nothing else. I can run over it with my truck or drop it in water 12 feet deep for 6 hours. Try that with your smart phone! I am fortunate to utilize cable internet where I am but have a friend in a remote mountain location who uses a microwave-based internet signal which works well in mountainous regions. Maybe something like this will come available to your area soon.
I went back to a Flip Phone after a Smart Phone .I was sick of busting screens and forever charging them up .My Flip Phone lasts all week on one charge and like you said bullet proof .I have a Android Tablet for the internet .
I have the exact same set up. Gave my smart phone to my grandson. We have a little flip phone and i have not missed the smart phone at all. I called it the smart ass phone. Too many ways to do things that baffled me. I have my samsung tab 4 and do all i need online. Then my 17 yr old granddaughter tells us shes getting the iphone X? Whatever that one is. Not the latest but the one before that. She works and takes care of her own bills already and will start college in January at 17 so we leave her alone. Shes bright beautiful and works like many adults. So anyway i am happy with my low technology and when i die they wont fight over my crappy techless items. Have s great evening
Good info. Colorado mountains and Western Maine a real challenge. Propably the only tough challenge about remote locations. Everything else is fun stuff.
Wow that $90 was very expensive! I'm not 'off grid' but I have a landline, a Internet line and a smart phone all for €50 a month. I love my phone as it's a easy way to keep in touch with my family. As I sit here watching your video makes me want to be there. I live in a 2 bedroomed terraced town house with a neighbour who is about 40 years old and he chain smokes. I have never smoked and I hate having to breath in his smoke as it wafts through my open doors and windows. I'm still saving like crazy for my tiny home and the day can't come soon enough.
Nice. I have always heard that much of the globe has better options in this area than are available in the States. Many with smart phones they want to use as most in the modern world do are paying well more than that plus separate charges for internet and landline phones if they still have one. I hope the smoke all blows the other way! That sucks.
I'm glad that you finally found a good wireless cellular/internet provider. I have been with SPRINT for many years and it's the only one that I can get a reliable connection, even in remote areas and priced right. Don't get ready to do choirs outside to quick, because Burley is on the couch all warm and getting his beauty sleep. Thank You: Ariel & Burley
Interesting! Your videos are always so interesting, informative and I just think you're great, girl! We (hubby & I) really enjoy the nature shots, how you survive out there--it really helps me (us) in our walk.we're learning too!...(and, of course, the cooking videos-that is actually my favorite, as you introduce those old ways into your cooking-awesome! As a fancy (semi-retired) chef, I'm getting back to old, traditional cooking!) Have a great day out there! :) Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
I use Straight Talk for my phone and internet (smart phone hot spot) needs and it runs about $60/mo for their unlimited service. The phone cost me $100 and they use Verizon towers so the coverage is good. No contract.... so no penalties if something better comes along. I travel about 4 months a year so it's wonderful having reliable and fast internet wherever I go. I loved my flip phone but but have become dependent on my smart phone as a navigation tool. I'm often on roads (dirt and gravel) that aren't shown on regular maps so it can be a huge time saver to be able to pull up a satellite view and see exactly where I am and where I need to go. Thanks for all your videos, I really enjoy your content.
Sounds like a good solution for you! Looks like to use their data on a hotspot which is by far my preference as everything I do is going to be on a laptop, runs $75 for every 7GB of data. I'm currently getting 50GB for $80.
Funny? NOT - those folks who hassle you re: 'off grid' ... guess they haven't watched your input re: solar panels on your property, and battery power collections (under your couch). Here's something I've been wondering for a bit ... where do you wash your gorgeous hair? since you don't utilize your shower stall. Glad to see you just ignore those 'nay sayers'! You go, girl! :)
Thank you for showing about this. From what I Google, Sprint & T-Mobile have the worst coverage and Verison has the best. I have a small flip phone that has T-Mobile and the coverage in eastern Oregon is horrible. But it costs less as I only use it for emergencies. I did not know about cellular phone hot spot availability and how you can hook up your computer to it with Bluetooth. Glad to learn that. Also about them throttling down after trial period. Also, I have found that if a company does nasty things, like your phone company, file a complaint with the federal gov’t in this case the FCC. Companies don’t like to be reported as they might get fined of closed if lots of complaints are filed. Thanks for sharing.
You are doing so well Ariel! You, Burley and your tiny stove are so cute! I was wondering if your parents or siblings watch your videos? A very nice way to keep in touch if you live far away.
Hi Ariel, for me you are off grid for sure. what others say? I am the same as you, I don't care at all. Its probably getting better in the future, but what will it cost is always the question. O, I almost forget, you can train Burly to listen to a dog whistle when you want him come to you outside. Has a very high frequensi we cannot hear, but he can. Take care, Regards, Tony.
You've certainly been through the gamut of testing products/services! Always amazes me how perfect strangers feel free to tell you what to do and how to live ;)
Hi Ariel , also have a flip phone like yours . I find it a lot easier to answer especially when fishing ,just pull it out of your pocket and flip it open , compared to having to swipe a smart phone.
It's not just where you live. My mom lives 10 minutes from me but her house is right on the line where cable and internet stops. We do get internet for her through her cellphone service. Its enough I can work from her house when I need to. Same with her TV. Only choice is satellite. Thanks for sharing.
Very timely. I'm looking for a new internet provider now. Not that the service is bad, they just keep jacking the rate as if it had been "introductory" ..for the third time in as many years. Now it's double the starting amount. Generally in the city it's more cost-effective to get a home connection wired in, but then as you get all snuggly with the setup, they keep screwing with it until you bail. This cable modem setup is approaching what I used to pay for a cellular modem. It might be time to revisit that.. though the cellular modem service (w/Clear) was discontinued like yours, so a similar one may not exist. About now I'd take a wireless plan that brazenly _IS_ limited, if they'd stick to the limit, advertised speed and price.. what a concept. For mobile stuff I use Tello (a Sprint broker) and squeak by with 500MB and 100 minutes talk time a month, 6 bucks. I should look into their higher end plans. Because like you, I could just start hotspotting out of my phone for what is effectively a cellular modem again. If I was in a remote area where a good connection was expensive, I'd share with immediate neighbors with directional wifi antennas, a bandwidth throttling/guaranteeing router, and a very clear understanding of the deal. I would do that even in the city, and it is very fun to set up a little secret network.. I've done that short-term while I had no connection.. but I found that without the proper setup, people are leery about who's doing what on who's account, and any outage or slowdown in the service is always thought to be the neighbor's fault. Of course I don't even need what I have.. computer power and bandwidth by no means equates to enjoyment of the technology.. just as a simple '80s video game like Tron was as much fun as the latest hyper-realistic war game, I'm as happy with a message saying 'Fy Nyth loves your comment' as with say, one of Shawn James' HD cinematic wonders. tcg♥︎
I know, "stick to the limit, advertised speed and price.. what a concept." Crazy how there don't seem to be any companies that can do that. Immediate neighbors with internet could be a great option. If there was any. :) Distances and mountains in between people here make that pretty much a non option.
Ariel, That's funny how people brag about how off grid they are. It's like people talking about how far they had to walk to school in what weather and depth of snow. I really like my flip phone, had it for many years.
Yep, I'm also sick of internet providers offering "unlimited" services and that's just a bold face lie! I just switched my Version plan to "unlimited" after going in to the Verizon store and discussing my needs with a salesperson there in the store. They assured me the unlimited plan would definitely cover all my needs, HA! I didn't even make it through half the month before I could not use it like I was told I would be able to use it. They know what they are doing, anything to make a sale. I really, really liked my old yellow dial phone that used to hang on the kitchen wall. The only problem I ever had with it was I was limited to how far across the kitchen I could go and still talk on it. Then, times changed and, low and behold, I got my extra long phonecord and life was good! 😀👍
Yeah, you know something was misunderstood about the meaning of "unlimited" when a company is running ads telling you to pick any one of their five different "unlimited" plans. :)
Welcome! My stove is a Grey Stove Works Mini CT12. No longer manufactured though as far as I know. The most similar options I know of are the Hobbit, Squirrel, or this little one - amzn.to/2SzKoCL
I am sure that many people here have told you, but getting yourself a high quality wifi amplifier/Antenna will change your world when it comes to speed and connection. A few youtubers like nomadic fanatic talk about this. He did an install video this year on the topic. Have a great day.
To connect to someone else's existing wifi connection I assume you mean? That can be a great option if there is any existing one you can connect to! There's nothing currently existing in my area.
@@FyNyth no they make antenna to connect to 4GLTE or any band signal you need. They also make the kind you are speaking about too. Its well worth the investment for people with weak signals.
Ah gotcha. Good point. My issue here though is not really the signal, but the expense of buying enough data to be able to use the signal for what I do.
Hi Ariel, great video, very informative indeed. I'm lways amazed how the "UNlimited deal's and package's that are available, still have Limit's (Scratch's Head) : )
Some folks seem to think of "off grid" in a political or anti-corporate way. They wanna put it to The Man by getting similar services without paying outrageous prices and that's understandable. Others just do it for more practical purposes. I suppose there's a spectrum. Most of us maybe are a little both. I'm not happy with a lot of plans and business practices but I also need practical service so I put up with a lot of crap that I probably shouldn't. The alternative is to 'shop around' and I'm not a fan of jumping carriers for surefire deals that turn out to be no good after the trial period like Ariel describes in this video. I stick with one carrier until I just can't anymore and move when absolutely necessary. Others like to shop around and put a lot of time and resources into getting the best deal for the here and now and if they enjoy that and its worth their time who am I to argue with that? What concerns me tho is when people get upset with other people cuz their reasons for being off grid are not necessarily political or well just not identical. Ariel may or may not be off grid due to politics. It may or may not have to do with lessening her carbon foot print. It may or may not be economic or social or anti-corporatist. Who cares? What works for her works for her and if it doesn't match why you do it, so what? I'm so very much on grid it's not even funny, but it is wise to come up with contingency plans for when a power company browns out, which does happen due to storms from time to time even here. Doesn't hurt to educate oneself and try to be a little prepared. On an entirely different topic: Does Burley have his own Instagram page?
My phone is this one - www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Convoy-2-SCH-U660-Coffee-Brown-Verizon-Cellular-Phone-/173901503408?hash=item287d565bb0 Looks like they are even less expensive since I last had to replace one.
It's a good day-like today-when there is a video from you and a video from Living Traditions Homestead! Hah! I have the same exact phone. I don't need to take the internet with me in the car. And even tho being on your phone while in the car is illegal in Seattle, every time I go some place, there's somebody on their phone. Somebody else needs to be honked at to see the light has changed because they're on their phone, it's crazy. And not safe. And when there's an accident, the first thing attoerneys check is were you on the phone. Nope! Not me! You mentioned you have friends that travel. Do you also have the yen to go to Europe, Asia etc?
If you've never once argued with anyone over the definition of "off grid", you might be......a Senior Citizen. I know I've never had a disagreement over it.
Hello beautiful and Burley too, smh people just ask the stupidest questions. Some people just wipe before they poop i guess, for the people that don't know country that means you speak before you think in a round about way. Why do you think God gave us a mouth that closes and ears that don't. So you listen more than you speak please Ariel give Burley a big hug for me and you be safe.
Hi there! Just came across your channel and love it!! For internet have you tried SpaceX? Not sure if it's available in your area but it's supposed to be great in terms of speed and reliability. How's your current solution working?
Well, that was an amazing scene: Ariel enjoying tea by the warmth of the fire. Your issues with internet in some ways mirror my own though I think you have better options than me even though you are 6000 feet up and I am in the Haliburton Highlands East in Ontario at about 1000 feet. Many are not happy with our options for high speed internet in this area. I am on satellite. It is far more expensive than what it is really worth. And for some things it is not reliable at all. For general things it is much better than dial up, of course. Here is the problem which speaks to it not being reliable. My computer runs on Ubuntu. It is really an easy thing to update this system, if I have a solid connection. This year I decided I really needed to move from Ubuntu 14.04 to 18.04. I tried this before and it didn't work but i tried again. I downloaded the file to install the upgrade. It was a total failure. I likely had thousands of files that were broken or didn't make the trip and ended up with a computer without a functioning OS. I had to go to the library in the village of Haliburton and start all over again. It is impressive that you have been able to find solutions considering where you live. And oh, yes. I see notices from others of unlimited and when I check it out, I could have a neighbour 500 feet way who can get that service but I can't.
That I didn't know. No plans to upgrade at least till I wear out the shutter on this one. It went from my first 30D till they made the 80D before I replaced that one. So maybe I'll next get the 130D. ;)
We have the same issues here...we don't get any signal at or near our house but Verizon :(... if u can't find our house u would have to go 6 miles back down the road to get signal to call us...& u might get ahold of us if we have our phone in the right place...we have a very sketchy signal-not reliable...we have to go to town, 55 miles 1 way, 110 round trip to upload videos...we have recently heard of unlimitedville of which only the Verizon plan works for us but that is $250 a month & would require a signal booster which is an additional $400 one time fee...so not doable at this time as we don't spend $250 a month going to town
Yeah that's about the boat I was in till a year ago. Now I can pick up Sprint too which is nice as their data is so much less expensive. Hopefully some better options reach your area soon!
I kinda wondered about internet signals way out in the mtns where you are located ? I did give it some thought off and on , you post videos and have a connection , more or less i leaned towards the satellites .. You explained it well . Far more complex than i realized it would be .. WIFI boosters have been on the market for a few years now .. If only one company gives you coverage where you are located that i have found out is not always a good thing .. I have Verzion for a year with a locked in package for 5 years , well after 1.5 years the price went up $8.00 they explained the package i have is no longer offered ( how do you like your new speed?) 8 gig up to 20 gig, ahhh i don't game online .. Two more months it went up again $11.00 so i had a talk with them same thing the package i have is no longer offered..Now i have 40 gig now i can weld car body's with that speed.. Right before Christmas that year it went up again $18.00 , wow now i have 80 gig.. Sorry i don't mean to complain, but i pulled the plug that's it so it was for a locked in package for 5 years , didn't even get 2 out of it .. scam i hate that .
@@FyNyth yes it is very frustrating. For a year and a half later the company sent me all these special packages.. "Norman tell us how to make it right, we would love to have you back." My gawd..
interesting. I found out that you can have internet over ham radio signals, not very fast but okay for email and stuff. so you do need to buy a ham radio but it is really if do not have any other options. sounds like you got something that works going for now.
Welcome to the channel! You might enjoy going through this frequently asked questions playlist where there's a couple videos on that among other things - th-cam.com/play/PLahYrM1qHHGPLLyKqZTIEoQopnCMY_3Cr.html
Ate breve, desligo.
We are going off grid in 5 acres over the next few weeks. And yes, that still means what it has meant for many years - not tied (tied down!) to any public utilities. Going no social media or no internet is a whole new, separate and admirable goal but it will have to find it's own name. ;)
You really should check out Visible. It's a non contact on Verizon towers with unlimited data. It's $40 per month for unlimited hotspot. No throttling. They USED TO throttle but not anymore. It can be your unlimited phone as well if you want but I like it for just an unlimited hotspot at my homestead where it's hard to find coverage.
This one. Looks like it's even less expensive since I last needed to replace mine. www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Convoy-2-SCH-U660-Coffee-Brown-Verizon-Cellular-Phone-/173901503408?hash=item287d565bb0
We only have one internet option where we live and we’re not even that far out of town. We had a very brief fling with satellite, which was horrid and now back with at&t uverse.
While I have some electricity in my house thanks to my little solar setup (th-cam.com/video/LX0VQpX9rCw/w-d-xo.html), my little dump phone usually only needs charged about once a week and I can normally do that while driving someone via the cigaret lighter.
When are you moving to your land, and become truly independent? Are you waiting to have it paid off? Are you improving the property, upgrading the buildings? Will you sell your tiny house when you move?
I too use a smartphone for my internet, it has unlimited everything apart from the data plan which is only 3GB, But what it does have is unlimited Wi-Fi(public) so I connect to that, if I was off grid it might be problematic, so I might use a 4G booster with an external aerial along with a MiFi device, as my phone does WIFI/HD calling allows me to make phone calls and send text still over the internet, plus as a way of a backup I use BBM Enterprise to make calls and send texts to family and friends, as BBM uses pins instead of a phone numbers it would be no problem if they was no mobile signal as it uses WIFI/mobile signal.
Sounds like you have an option that works great for you! Yeah the problem here is that I am miles from anything like a public wifi signal so nothing that requires wifi works.
Yeah, you know something was misunderstood about the meaning of "unlimited" when a company is running ads telling you to pick any one of their five different "unlimited" plans. :)
I am curious: Rather than using a phone as a "hot spot", why not just buy and use a wireless router? Over the last 20 years, I have used GPRS, 3G and 4G wireless routers (simply insert your SIM card into the router). One benefit of a router, is one can plug in a better, dedicated external antenna, which can greatly improve your upload or download speeds. I have an external antenna on my 4G router. And, yes, it definitely make a difference in connection speed.
Interesting. This sounds like something I would very much like but I don't know that it exists here in the States. Have you used that setup here? I've never seen any kind of wireless router that could use a SIM card, but would be very interested if you have a link to one that does. And then you would still have to be buying a data plan from some company for that SIM card, correct?
@@FyNyth - Go the the channel of The Off Grid Skollie. Chris has at least two videos about connection solutions including the use of wireless routers that can accept one or multiple SIM cards plus antennas.
@@FyNyth Go to Amazon and type in "4G wireless router". Most of those will be LTE routers. The top 5 US telecoms have standardized on LTE. A local provider may not. Simply ask, if you use a local provider, if they are LTE enabled. Some US telecoms might charge you for each device connected to a router. Ask them about that before you buy. Oh, I forgot to mention, so I cam back to edit and add, also while at Amazon, type in "4g wireless directional antenna" to get antenna options.
So you still need to purchase some kind of data or phone plan for the router to do anything, correct? That's my real problem, any of the few companies that have service in this area, are expensive to buy data from. :)
@@FyNyth If you want to get 4G you have to buy it from somewhere. It is unfortunate that the price you have to pay is expensive where you live. That is the US Telecom Industry for you. But if you have an external antenna, you might be able to pick up signals from more different providers and that may increase your pricing options ... or maybe not if the companies are colluding on fixing high prices. But.... also, with an external antenna you might see an improvement in upload speeds (I say "might" -- as I can not guarantee it). Which may help you offset the cost by not spending so much committed time uploading content. Hope this helps. P.S. Might suggest contacting "Slim Potatohead" (that is a channel here at TH-cam). He does a lot of boondock camping in the US and has an external antenna to get Internet at his camping sites. He may have more local ideas of how such a setup may work for you (or not).
I could. But I know I have followers who watch on a big screen and I like to provide the highest quality I can. Also, the lower quality versions loose a lot of audio quality I found when I played around with different options.
I haven't heard the arguments, but just for clarity... "The grid" is the electric grid. It has nothing to do with water, gas, plumbing, etc. It makes more sense to say, as you said, "not connected to any public utilities," if you want to go beyond talking about the electric grid.. A person who is "off grid" is saying that, whatever electrical use they may have, is generated my themselves, via solar, wind, or other personal generator. Not from the public grid of community owned generators, wires, etc. which create, and deliver electricity to the user. No big deal, but it helps to clarify. About the cell use, I'm in the need to update. When I learned to text, I went from a bar phone to a phone with a 'keyboard,' that most people call a 'blackberry." I've had it forever, and it still works well. Now, they tell me, it's going to be put on the trash heap, so... time to check out the options. Like you, I only need to use it for phone calls and texts, and pictures would be nice. Don't need internet on my phone. It's hard to text on a phone wo a key board, actual or virtual. Sadly the costs will increase. Thanks for what you shared.
If you don't need internet on a phone, you might like checking out the phone I use - www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Convoy-2-SCH-U660-Coffee-Brown-Verizon-Cellular-Phone-/173901503408?hash=item287d565bb0 Looks like they are even less expensive since I last had to replace one at $7.50. And the phone plan I use is through www.redpocket.com/plans where I have unlimited talk and text for $19 a month so not to costly compared to most option in the States.
Think it's almost impossible to not depend on the 'grid' or other people, you seem to be pretty good at self sufficiency and minimal use/help from anyone or thing.
That is sad and I think many more are in your shoes too. I make a point to only turn mine on when actively using it and keep it off and try to avoid most other sources as much as possible. If a hard line was possible here, that's what I would go with.
i dont hav it yet but i will . looks like its wit tmobile. i dont think u can get it wit tmobile tho u gota go thru wirelessbuy. prices might hav changed. modem/router is $219 th-cam.com/video/KCrGikV9w3g/w-d-xo.html
The more connected we get in today's world, the more I want to run away to someplace that's NOT connected . Good video, straightforward explanation.
Yep, I'm getting allergic to it. I don't have internet at home but I have a mobile phone with internet cause I live alone in the mountains, plus need it for the occasional teaching work I get. I really want to be in a place with no connection whatsoever.
I hear that. I'm thankful that I can shut it all off, which is exactly what I do when I am not actively working on something.

Hello Ariel, it is good to see you again. You are quite a daring soul. All the very best to you. Please take good care of yourself. 🤗
Great topic.
Thanks Ariel, Good talk.
Thank you for the educational knowledge
Hi Ariel .
They are so much more durable and not having to charge frequently is so handy.
You have a lovely day also. Love your videos however you get them to me is awesome. 😁
Just glad I get to watch your content.
Aww thanks!
Aww thanks for the kind words!
Hey Ariel thank you for sharing
My dear keep up the good work 👍
I use Straight Talk for my phone and internet (smart phone hot spot) needs and it runs about $60/mo for their unlimited service.
I am wondering how much snow you are going to get this weekend. I know you will enjoy it as will Burley. Peace.
Good question. I would guess kitchen sink with warmed water?
Sometimes like this - th-cam.com/video/SF8NQHmAiII/w-d-xo.html But usually just when I shower elsewhere.
Hi again! Good info Ariel! Thx
Very informative. Thank you so much for sharing.
I love swinging an axe around 32 deg in a cotton t-shirt. It’s perfect.
Very interesting for sure !
You are doing so well Ariel! You, Burley and your tiny stove are so cute! I was wondering if your parents or siblings watch your videos? A very nice way to keep in touch if you live far away.
I know my parents do sometimes, I think most of my siblings are usually too busy with their own lives and families.
Thanks for the info, Ariel. Love the new term "off-gridder" than others...😄
:)
Hello, you are so lovely to watch.
Tron..... You definitely off grid if you ain't seen it 🤣👍😎... Need a movie nite girl awesome film.
Never heard of it. So it's a movie?
Hi Ariel, for me you are off grid for sure. what others say? I am the same as you, I don't care at all. Its probably getting better in the future, but what will it cost is always the question. O, I almost forget, you can train Burly to listen to a dog whistle when you want him come to you outside. Has a very high frequensi we cannot hear, but he can. Take care, Regards, Tony.
Ty so much
You've certainly been through the gamut of testing products/services! Always amazes me how perfect strangers feel free to tell you what to do and how to live ;)
Hi Ariel , also have a flip phone like yours . I find it a lot easier to answer especially when fishing ,just pull it out of your pocket and flip it open , compared to having to swipe a smart phone.
Yes! Much easier to handle when you are busy, dirty, wet, etc.
Thank you.
Blessings!
I agree! I need internet for work, but would love to go off grid otherwise
GRATITUDE
Here comes SpaceX with Starlink next year. Thank you for sharing :-*
The options are always changing!
This was very helpful. Thanks. On another note, you may have said this in another video, but I am new to your channel, what type of fireplace is that?
Welcome! My stove is a Grey Stove Works Mini CT12. No longer manufactured though as far as I know. The most similar options I know of are the Hobbit, Squirrel, or this little one - amzn.to/2SzKoCL
I love your hair...
Why thank you.
Its well worth the investment for people with weak signals.
th-cam.com/video/pAoDK8h7M1E/w-d-xo.html
Ah gotcha. Good point. My issue here though is not really the signal, but the expense of buying enough data to be able to use the signal for what I do.
@@FyNyth If they don't get you coming they sure will get you going. Sorry to hear about the internet pricing in your area.
Hi Ariel, great video, very informative indeed. I'm lways amazed how the "UNlimited deal's and package's that are available, still have Limit's (Scratch's Head) : )
Yeah, it's like cell phone companies don't understand English words. :)
Most folks do have a wide range of reasons for doing things. No instagram, but you can see him almost every day at mewe.com/i/fynyth :)
Yes "off grid" varies depending on what level you want from lacking a few utilities to the other end which is living like a caveman.
I love your videos may I ask what kind of cellphone you have
My phone is this one - www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Convoy-2-SCH-U660-Coffee-Brown-Verizon-Cellular-Phone-/173901503408?hash=item287d565bb0 Looks like they are even less expensive since I last had to replace one.
@@FyNyth thanks
Nah, most of the travel I enjoy doing involves walking around in the mountains far from most people. :)
If you've never once argued with anyone over the definition of "off grid", you might be......a Senior Citizen. I know I've never had a disagreement over it.
:) Or you've never had a youtube channel where strangers spend a lot of time telling you you don't know what words mean.
Just curious, what happened to that piece of land you bought a while ago? If there’s a video about it, could someone please point it out?
Still the same plans I discussed here - th-cam.com/video/9WuHfQFjmkk/w-d-xo.html
Hi there! Just came across your channel and love it!!
For internet have you tried SpaceX? Not sure if it's available in your area but it's supposed to be great in terms of speed and reliability.
How's your current solution working?
Personally the world of pony express. stage coach or if push came to shove...smoke signals would suit me just fine Ariel,
:) Not bad, just makes sharing videos a lot harder.
Bummer. Yeah I've never talked to anyone who was really happy with satellite.
Costs in Canada are greatly higher than in the USA for the same service. Are you thinking about upgrading to the Canon 90D?
Hopefully some better options reach your area soon!
what do you use for a camera to make your video's??
Yes i dont care what others think either, the way i look at if i like it they should be tickled, they not living it.
Yeah all that kind of stuff is super frustrating.
@@FyNyth yes it is very frustrating. For a year and a half later the company sent me all these special packages.. "Norman tell us how to make it right, we would love to have you back." My gawd..
I know. You would think it would be easier for companies to try to keep customers than to get them back after making them so frustrated they leave.
interesting. I found out that you can have internet over ham radio signals, not very fast but okay for email and stuff. so you do need to buy a ham radio but it is really if do not have any other options. sounds like you got something that works going for now.
Hi do you have a video of how you get power?
Welcome to the channel! You might enjoy going through this frequently asked questions playlist where there's a couple videos on that among other things - th-cam.com/play/PLahYrM1qHHGPLLyKqZTIEoQopnCMY_3Cr.html
Ate breve, desligo.
Enjoy your summer. I love my cold wintery area!
We are going off grid in 5 acres over the next few weeks. And yes, that still means what it has meant for many years - not tied (tied down!) to any public utilities. Going no social media or no internet is a whole new, separate and admirable goal but it will have to find it's own name. ;)
Do you use a GPS system when traveling?
You really should check out Visible. It's a non contact on Verizon towers with unlimited data. It's $40 per month for unlimited hotspot. No throttling. They USED TO throttle but not anymore. It can be your unlimited phone as well if you want but I like it for just an unlimited hotspot at my homestead where it's hard to find coverage.
👍👍
What model phone do you use with Red Pocket Mobile?
This one. Looks like it's even less expensive since I last needed to replace mine. www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Convoy-2-SCH-U660-Coffee-Brown-Verizon-Cellular-Phone-/173901503408?hash=item287d565bb0
We only have one internet option where we live and we’re not even that far out of town. We had a very brief fling with satellite, which was horrid and now back with at&t uverse.
That's pretty much what I've heard from anyone who ever had satellite!
How do you charge your phones?
While I have some electricity in my house thanks to my little solar setup (th-cam.com/video/LX0VQpX9rCw/w-d-xo.html), my little dump phone usually only needs charged about once a week and I can normally do that while driving someone via the cigaret lighter.
@@FyNyth i charge mine the same way sometimes😊
When are you moving to your land, and become truly independent? Are you waiting to have it paid off? Are you improving the property, upgrading the buildings? Will you sell your tiny house when you move?
Still the same plans I discussed here - th-cam.com/video/9WuHfQFjmkk/w-d-xo.html
Nothing like a limited unlimited plan ~8^)
Yeah, you know something was misunderstood about the meaning of "unlimited" when a company is running ads telling you to pick any one of their five different "unlimited" plans. :)
😎😁👍
Burley got too hot n moved away n hopped up on the couch xxx
He may have more local ideas of how such a setup may work for you (or not).
you said you shoot your video in HD maybe you should convert down to youtube quality (definition) about 200m or less for 1/2 hour
@@FyNyth ... Thanks, Ariel.
Think it's almost impossible to not depend on the 'grid' or other people, you seem to be pretty good at self sufficiency and minimal use/help from anyone or thing.
Its not easy working n places where its hot u know im n Texas it is very hot but im am moving to Kansas this week so im going to be out of the heat.

Perhaps in the near future, Elon Musk's Starlink might help. As I understand it, it's meant to give rural places a better (or only) internet option.

My next goal is to live in an area where there's no connection whatsoever. I'm getting allergic to the EMF, I hate it. 😬
That is sad and I think many more are in your shoes too. I make a point to only turn mine on when actively using it and keep it off and try to avoid most other sources as much as possible. If a hard line was possible here, that's what I would go with.
