I played this when my dog that I grew up with since 11 died. I was well past 21. It hurt.
I have two dogs now and I dread the day they pass. I love them dearly. I will play this for them on those days as well.
My cat died in my arms yesterday morning. His cancer was sudden, rapid, and unexpected. We don’t have kids, he was our best friend, about as close to a dog as a cat could be. Working from home these past 3 years - I spent most of my waking hours with him. We were supposed to have more time, it was never supposed to be like this. It seems silly but I am utterly gutted - this song came to my mind. It doesn’t make me feel better but it helps me process. It very accurately depicts how I’m feeling right now.

Converge rips everything else in the genre. They're all crazy talented musicians and songwriters.
This album was unreal. This song is just the same. Monumental band with a monumental video.
So, I've been trying to get back in shape lately (had a lot of bad shit happen in my life, I got depressed then fat). I've been doing Insanity, which is pretty difficult for me right now, being as out of shape as I am. I usually put this album on during my workouts. The way it syncs up, I'm usually starting to run out of gas by the time this song starts. But, it never fails, every time those damn drums kick back in around 2:33, I get an almost overwhelming rush of energy and try to finish as strong as I can. It's been two weeks and I'm down 10 lbs. I know willpower and diet have a lot to do with it, but I'd also like to think Converge and the healing power of music have an equal share in that as well.

I’ve lost two dogs in my life.
Technically three, but the first I was too young to remember.
Anyway, for the first one I’ll never forget what the day was like leading up to taking her to the vet for the last time.
As for the second I didn’t even get to be there for him cause I was too busy getting intoxicated on fentanyl, coke and vodka, so my family went without me.
Sufficed to say I carry a lot of guilt for that. Cried that night which is something I don’t do often. But I loved that dog, more than I loved myself.
Converge is one of the best bands out there today, and this is one of their best songs. Thank you, Converge, for making beautiful music. Thank you, whoever you are, for reading this. Just thought I’d share it.

Lost my dog months ago. It was...very rough to say the least.
I recently got into Converge and their heavy, chaotic style has definitely helped me get through this. I listened to this album a month ago, and I just took the time to listen to the lyrics in this particular track.
God, they hit me like a train. it's not often that I see songs about loss and grief that are written so beautifully like this. Really well done Jacob.

@@Naught359 are you insane? Maybe the vocals, but for everything else the mixing is perfectly. Every instrument is perfectly equal, not one overpowers the other and you can hear every single strum and drum hit so easily.
What a lot of hardcore/metal bands (not all) don't have is emotional sincerity.

The feeling that you could have gave the thing you loved the most more time and attention. life brings us away from those things that mean most to us and we don't realize it until it's gone. Miss my dog Leroy so much. I hate that I worked all those 12 hour shift throughout your life. One of the worst things about putting down your best friend is that they sense when you are upset and that in turn frightens them. So you got to go in to the room in a facade that nothing is wrong and everything is alright. Holding in every sorrow with a fake smile for thier sake. All while you are doing this you feel like you are going to choke on everything that is happening in front of you.
This album is so underrated, I think it's phenomenal. Granted, it's not as heavy as previous albums but its much more technical and heartbreakingly beautiful to listen to.
Mine and my parents Malamute will be put down within 2 days of my comment and I found this video looking for some metal about pet loss, the imagery is perfect, the music perfect and the vocals just say it all.
Will miss you Chilli, the only comfort is that at least you wont be in pain anymore.

Man this song always makes me emotional. A dog is more loyal than a human is capable of and will be by your side through literally anything. It really is like losing your best friend.

I have been away from my family, especially my mother, for many years while I try to find myself here.. she died five years ago and she never told me how much pain she was in while I toiled around Spain. I am still lost in Europe, wondering which words I could have said to make her aware...yeah, she knows. all we love, we leave behind.

Ive been listening a lot of different extreme musics during all these years... Honestly, there´s nothing like this band..

The best band in the world.
It's funny how people don't like the vocals in this song; the vocals here aren't even that aggressive or hard to listen to. Now Jane Doe on the other hand, I can understand that. I can actually understand the unappealing nature given the extremely aggressive vocals. But that's why he's one of my favorite vocalists. He packs so much emotion in each scream; I actually remember when I first heard Concubine how I didn't like it. And not only that, I couldn't imagine how he still had a voice or how he could even scream like an actual scream. Not a growl. A scream. It's actually pretty depressing because I try to find bands like this one, but a lot are missing that final piece of emotion that Converge relentlessly unleashes on you minute after minute.
Yeah its interesting because so many bands I've listened to I didn't like at first, but I eventually came around to liking them. Between the Buried and Me, Converge, Lamb of God, Kill switch Engage, Horse the Band, Dir en Grey, and Scar Symmetry are some that I didn't like at first but some of these are my favorites while some use to be my favorite growing up. It sometimes takes a certain song for you to start liking the band (Hell to Pay in Converge's case) or just repeated listening.

I am tremendously impressed with this song, I was getting familiar with the other bands touring with yob and this band has surprised me.
I always thought the song was about how we are sometimes forced to walk away from those we love but the video gives a context I never thought of

I’ve been listening to this album for 10 years, and never knew it was about his dog until just now. My dog died in 2020 and I’ve avoided listening to stuff like Black Dog by AJJ, Canine Euthanasia by The Vandals, anything that reminded me of my lab, for the past few years.
This was already one of my favorite songs, and knowing it’s about his dog makes it mean that much more to me, so thanks, 10 years late

Converge are one of the most important underground bands of the last 15 years long with The Dillinger Escape Plan and Mastodon.
If The Dillinger Escape Plan is headlining Summer Slaughter along with full country tours I think they're pretty anti-underground.
AyeJ4y12 Go ask at least 5 people out on the street and see if they know who the hell they are. They might be well-known in our world of music, but they're still pretty unknown to the public in general.
This is not underground at all. 1 million visits, plus this guys are considered one of the first and best metalcore bands.
