  • See the results of a year-long programme of refurbishment works at our Swan Theatre.
Opened in 1986, the Swan Theatre occupies the same Stratford-upon-Avon site as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. We regularly stage the work of Shakespeare's contemporaries in the Swan Theatre, as well as new work by today's writers.
The Swan closed during the pandemic and reopens in April 2023 with the world premiere of Hamnet, adapted by Lolita Chakrabarti from Maggie O’Farrell’s best-selling novel. Changes to the theatre include new infrastructure for lighting, sound and video and repairs to the woodwork and brickwork. The previous bench seating has been changed to new, wider individual seats to improve audience comfort. Audiences were given the opportunity to "Name a Seat" in the Swan, and by doing so play a vital role in these important renovations.

Preferred the intimacy of the old seating style. Will see but at moment looks like it's lost some of it's magic

I wear a hearing aid and therefore depend on the loop to hear.
Last night, to take advantage of the loop on level 2, row A, I had to sit bolt upright in my seat, from where, I could not see. To see, I had to lean right forward, from where I could not hear.
    Can this be rectified?

Thanks for letting us know about this. I've passed this on to be investigated.
