Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita at the Luminato Festival Hub in Toronto

  • Aptly known as the "Queen of the Harp," Cardiff's Catrin Finch graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2002. But her regal connections don't end there. She subsequently revived a British tradition, dormant for a century-and-a-half, when she was named Royal Harpist to the Prince of Wales. Though Finch's solo and orchestral work has earned her worldwide accolades, never has her playing been more stunningly showcased than in tandem with Senegal-born Seckou Keita, master of the harp-like kora. The beauty, and passion, of their musical and cultural twining is inimitably exquisite.

Just discovered this sublime duo. What an absolute delight!!! An African saying is that: "Humans can sing and instruments can [be] play[ed] to angelic performance, but the Kora ALONE is the child of Mother Earth who intones the emotional voice of God himself". Now it can be heard and said that: ‘so does his/her twin the harp; especially when in concert’. Thank you so very much for this awe-inspiring musical marriage! I can't withhold tears of merry delight!!!!!!!!!

You know, I'm 76 years old, a retired musician, a retired teacher of music history, someone seriously worried about the state of the world, and I know that the best way to bring people together throughout this troubled world is the playing of fine music, together. Wonderful, perfect, beautiful, heartfelt music, played by wonderful, perfect, beautiful musicians playing from the heart. This collaboration, of Seckou and Catrin, is simply put, the best duo in the world of music today, bar none. They are a Senegalese man from a profound improvisatory tradition, and an utterly gorgeous Celtic woman from a classical background, and they are both human beings of true nobility, and utterly transcendant as musicians. Together. Thank you for being, and thanks to all musicians everywhere.

I was lucky enough this year to see Seckou Keita close up when he played on the wards at Salisbury Hospital - he is a wonderful and genuine musician, a joy to hear. His duos with Catrin are a great thing, and I look forward to their next album.

I saw these 2 wonderful human being at Musicport in Whitby last Sunday. My body was in shock at good they were - I couldn't quite believe my ears. It wasn't until the next day when I relaxed at home that I could appreciate the sheer exquisite beauty of their work. What a gift. What a discovery. Thank you both!

It is remarkable, not only how the timbre of these two instruments integrate with each other - one would say that they were made to be played in duos - but also how the musicians' interpretation creates a perfect unity in each piece !

I have been a huge fan of the Kora ever since hearing Ali farka Toure and Toumani Diabate's brilliant twin albums .I have heard these two go at it and have been drawn into their musical sphere with so much pleasure. What they are doing here is rare beauty.Their playing is on a level as good as any Ive heard.I like Catrin's slight dissonance on the higher strings on her harp on some of the latter passages which compliments perfectly.Fantastic music you can float away on.

This is really beautiful: not only the sound, but the cooperation!! Harp & Kora: a match made in heaven! No doubt. Now in portuguese: "A combinação improvável de duas culturas tão diferentes resultou no aclamado álbum Clychau Dibon, escolhido pela revista Songlines como Melhor Colaboração Intercultural em 2014.". Well... that would be strictly your personal opinion. But here is the problem... You not only had absolutely Zero idea what you were talking about but, even more pathetically, zero idea WHO you were talking about. I wonder if you have become any more enlightened about Catrin during the past five years? Not very likely.
