The first time I watched the movie, I was overthinking that and theorizing as to how some sort of time manipulation could be her power but that she went back in time as she received it and 'ruined' her own ceremony. Because she literally freezes time to sing, then life happens around her and all of a sudden it's much later and she's all alone singing in the courtyard? What??
I think that Abuela's "gift" was like being the protector of the miracle, so she doesn't need a gift. Once she passes away, someone needs to assume this role - this person is Mirabel, since she also doesn't has any gifts and she's the one that healed/fixed the miracle after all. Imo her family just couldn't realize that her "function" was to continue Abuela's role but idk that's just me overthinking ( Btw english isn't my first language so I would like to apologize in case I've mispelled something )

Mariano was famous in town for his looks, but he was also kind, thoughtful and full of love like Pedro, who as you find out reading the art of Encanto, was a writer. A good husband and a thoughtful poet. Unfortunately, the more perfect Isabela was percieved, the more burdens she was forced to bear. No mistake had ever been allowed in her life. All that abuse left Isabela being unable to do anything for the unreachable expectations of Abuela’s fantasy. Isa let abuela to force every mistake in the former’s way, including Mirabel, who was considered one by Alma since she has no “gift”, which I think explains the sibling rivalry. Though it becomes clear that Isabela was envious of her sister’s freedom and that Mirabel hadnt internalized Abuela’s emotions. Like when Isa is horrified at the idea of 5 babies and springs up flowers on her hair, Alma plucks the single white flower out of the pink ones. She’s old enough to remember Bruno. She knew that if she didnt constantly prove that she could do everything to support her family (not really. This fear, unwittingly instilled by Abuela, allowed her to expand her demands to a colossal degree, and she felt warrented to do so, especially Isabela lost herself to the generational fantasy. Isa literally practiced perfection for 21 years as a Stepford Smiler - lookitup - (“I have been _stuck_ being _perfect_ my entire life!”) At this point, Abuela was convinced that Isa WAS perfect. And the loop only got worse, to the point that she thought the arrainged marriage of Isa to Mariano for the sake of a new generation of quote-unquote “perfect children,” was the key to saving the fading miracle. And with that, Abuela became even more protective of Isabela. Notice in Isa’s song, durinf the part in which Abuela sees the sisters on the roof, Isa is obscured by powder, and Mirabel is the focus of the camera. As this is Abuela’s perspective, her immediate instinct is to go straight to the source of the “problem”, because she’d rather accuse Mirabel of destroying their community than believe Isabela wasnt her doll. Of course, Abuela didnt see this at the time, but Mirabel was trying to help Isabela in a way no one in her family… no, *THE ENTIRE DISNEY CATALOG* ever tried before. Mirabel was actually getting Isabela to discover herself, a rowdy artist, truthful about how she felt about her place, and allowed her to express herself. Abuela was convined that Mira was corrupting her perfect isa without considering her feelings at all. Abuela blamed the world for hurting for family and played victim, looking for a villain in her own home without taking responsibility for how she pushed everyone away and hated them for disconnecting. It was nigh-impossible for her to even consider loosening her grasp on Isabella because she didnt want to see her grandaughter give up on the life she was ripped away from. Abuela’s life had been destroyed by others, and she didnt want it to happen again, or should i say to Isa. Abuela subconsciously chose isabella to be the golden trauma because of the trauma weighing on her for decades. She saw her younger self in Isabela, Yes, preserving the new home and all that mush, but she also wantwd to see her descendants live out the life she had dreamed of with Abuelo Pedro. The truth is, Abuela couldnt control her eldest granchild forever, because she needed to define herself on her own terms. When Isabela breaks away, she doesnt reject femininity or anything expressing that. Mirabel just opened her eyes to the reality that she can define herself on her own terms; her own woman. Abuela had to let go so Isabela could live her own dream.

If it's too long to read ignore it, also this is just my opinion. To be honest, I love all the characters but I kinda prefer Pepa and Felix side of rhe family more. I think that Pepa is simply gorgeous and I love her even if I don't know why, how she smile, how she dance at the end of the movie really happy and how Felix always help Pepa to relax or how sweet he is when holding her or dancing with her, that's really sweet and they really are my favorite characters. I like Dolores and I love how expressive she got towards the end of the movie and I feel the need to add that while I love Julieta side of the family I prefer a bit more Luisa even if I really love almost equally, like really really close to be on the sam level as Luisa but they reach 100% when I see Mirabel, Luisa and Isabela together. As for Antonio and Camilo, I desperately need more this two together, I love them, they are adorable and precious and Antonio must be protected, I'll help Camilo to protect him XD I really feel like they have a wonderful brotherly relationship and I'm dying to see more of it, I also need to see Camilo and Bruno interaction, I feel like at first they would be so awkward and uncomfortable with each other because one is way more "shy" and reclusive while the other is always searching for the spotlight and have a stronger personality compared to Bruno, but both of them seem to like acting, with Bruno it's confirmed that he enjoy it or he's familiar with acting at least a little bit while with Camilo nothing is confirmed but I like to think that he have a mirror labyrinth (because of his shapeshift power and used to symbolize his identity issues) and at the end of it either a circus like kind of thing or a theater because of two of his most important trait, he always try to get the spotlight and he also would try to make you smile no matter what.

If it's too long to read ignore it, also this is just my opinion.
To be honest, I love all the characters but I kinda prefer Pepa and Felix side of rhe family more.
I think that Pepa is simply gorgeous and I love her even if I don't know why, how she smile, how she dance at the end of the movie really happy and how Felix always help Pepa to relax or how sweet he is when holding her or dancing with her, that's really sweet and they really are my favorite characters.
I like Dolores and I love how expressive she got towards the end of the movie and I feel the need to add that while I love Julieta side of the family I prefer a bit more Luisa even if I really love almost equally, like really really close to be on the sam level as Luisa but they reach 100% when I see Mirabel, Luisa and Isabela together.
As for Antonio and Camilo, I desperately need more this two together, I love them, they are adorable and precious and Antonio must be protected, I'll help Camilo to protect him XD
I really feel like they have a wonderful brotherly relationship and I'm dying to see more of it, I also need to see Camilo and Bruno interaction, I feel like at first they would be so awkward and uncomfortable with each other because one is way more "shy" and reclusive while the other is always searching for the spotlight and have a stronger personality compared to Bruno, but both of them seem to like acting, with Bruno it's confirmed that he enjoy it or he's familiar with acting at least a little bit while with Camilo nothing is confirmed but I like to think that he have a mirror labyrinth (because of his shapeshift power and used to symbolize his identity issues) and at the end of it either a circus like kind of thing or a theater because of two of his most important trait, he always try to get the spotlight and he also would try to make you smile no matter what.
