I must have just missed you coming down the river. I keep hoping to see you on the river. We were working on our property Saturday getting ready for hunting season. Our property is right by Profit Island north of Baton Rouge. Hopefully when I see you I can get a honk of those horns. Love your videos man!
Capt. Kyle, Many commercial ocean-going vessels offer cabins for folks wanting to experience a merchant marine voyage. Do any of the large barge boats offer something similar on the Mississippi? BTW, good seeing you back.
I used to watch the boats run the river from my desk at work before I retired. The river would get interesting in the winter when a strong storm would come brewing up from the south pushing against the south bound current.
My grandfather would take my twin brother and me out on his 14' john boat to run trot lines south of the bridges at Vicksburg. We were about 14 at the time.
@@marktwained Many years ago the people called river rats lived in squalor on floating shacks along the Yazoo Diversion Canal just north of the boat landings and the Steamer Sprague. There were a lot of derelict boats on the east side of the canal just south of the landing. One boat of interest was the Kate Tully, a small tugboat. She had an inline Kahlenberg diesel engine. The hull was rotted steel. Full of holes. The City cleaned all of that up. It was just too junky. The river rats had to find another place to live. When the USS Cairo was raised the pilot house was put on the riverside of the sea wall. My brother and I would climb up into it and explore. The iron armor plates were fastened to solid oak timbering on the inside. You could see lead marks where Minie balls struck the pilot house. The oak timber inside was a solid as a rock
Captain K......I see you are back and healed up....so.....so......the first watch when returning after crew change especially the Mid watch or Aft. watch?....is a real bummer!.....us towboaters understand the Range system and lighting.....could you give us an easily understandable overview of coming on the range.....what it is....why it is plotter in this area.....how to handle an Aft range.....how to pass other vessels when on the same range.....Blessings good Captain!
I’m standing “front” or captains watch…6-12 twice a day. I don’t run river that way. There are a few select places, mainly bridges, that we line up for running lights like that. Really only locking rivers where bottom doesn’t change as much. Shifting sands on Lower Mississippi (above Baton Rouge) don’t stay constant with navigation lights
I’m just making a trip over here. I’m not working regularly for Western Rivers nowadays, but I’m on good terms with those great folks and may be on their boats again in the future. 👍🏻
@@marktwained I was just wondering. I live about 30 miles south of Paducah and I really enjoy your content, I guess because I am familiar with a lot of the water you travel.
No crimes committed…yet. Haha The folks that write the checks make money from my work. I just get a small cut in relation to cost of moving products on the river. 😉👍🏻
I’m not a “regular boat” type of wheelman. I prefer flexibility of schedule over regular gig. My plan is no plan in relation to that. 😉👍🏻 As I get older, time spent with family is more of a priority to me than the river. That said, I still have bills to pay and because I’ve not made better financial decisions throughout my life, I’m not quite independently wealthy… yet. I’m fortunate that I can pick and choose opportunities working the river that benefit me most. Sometimes I may prioritize pay rate, other times it may be ease of workload, or area of rivers I want to see/run, or even specific companies or vessels that I have an interest in experiencing. Things vary. I’m happy and realize my fortune position in life, nowadays. 👍🏻
Thanks Capt, good to see you back. Bwell and safe. Beautiful
That's what I love about the river, almost always a beautiful sunrise or sunset! Smooth sailing, Captain!
If is beautiful. Thank you.
Such beauty and an austere silence. Love those early morning sunups. Doors and windows open .
I miss the river everyday. Thanks for the videos.
You are welcome. Glad you enjoy. 👍🏻
How can I come work for you ?….lol
Sunrises on the Mississippi really beautiful, I sure missed seeing them. Glad your back Capt
Ps, what kind of barge are you towing? Don't think I've seen one of them before
Liquid nitrogen fertilizer barges. They are empty in video..
Beautiful scenery Capt. stay safe love the beautiful river scenes.
Glad to see you back where you belong, Piloting a Boat on the Mighty Mississippi River. Views Don’t get any more Spectacular than this. 👍🙏
The views are what brings me back… well.. the checks aren’t bad either. 🤷🏼♂️
Thanks for the ride, Captain!
You’re welcome. 👍🏻
A beautiful morning on the river. Steady as she goes. 👍☘
Glad you're back in the saddle, Capt Kyle. And, watching for the canoe!
That’s an adventure I’ve considered. 👍🏻
So happy to see back. I hope your doing great and can't wait for your new videos. Hope the river is up.
River is low, but I’m still doing great. Thank you. 👍🏻
Good to see you back on the water.
I think there is a clip of that pedal canoe going through the lock at Keokuk a few days back.
welcome back Capt!..been in withdrawals without new videos lololol
Thank you.
Be careful. Too much of my content has made some sick. Haha 👍🏻
@@marktwained I think my favorite is making the center span on I40 coming into Memphis. Watched at least five times.

It's great to you happy Captain!😎
Great video on a beautiful river !!!
I looked you up on AIS this morning you were passing Baton Rouge not long before gametime. 7-10 knots hauling ass.
Those kayaks they have out now are fishing machines but I am not sure I would want to be on water that big in one.
Capt. Kyle,

Not that I’m aware of.
I used to watch the boats run the river from my desk at work before I retired. The river would get interesting in the winter when a strong storm would come brewing up from the south pushing against the south bound current.
Deceptively looking river waters with wind. Weather won’t change current direction, but surface waves will make it appear so sometimes.
Good to see you back captain. Hows the back and hernia probs, all good now you looked pretty active in those videos the other day at the fair etc
No physical restrictions. I’m just slowly building strength and getting in better shape.
Just had Mc D's breakfast delivered to enjoy this with.
Now I’m craving an Egg McMuffin. Haha 👍🏻
Glad to see you back missed your videos. How’s the water levels where you’re at?
Nice to see you back... Oat meal will spike your sugar up ..
It’s my preworkout favorite for those carbs. I don’t have issues with sugars like that. 👍🏻
Can I ask a fund question. Do you pull over to sleep or does someone take over and you keep going? Safe travels Capt.
Another wheelman is on board, getting his rest. We work alternating 6 hour watches.
12 hours a day for each of us.

I’m way down south. I won’t see you this time, but will check you out if you have social media.
Heck yeah 👍🏻

What's the speed difference between northbound and southbound?
Depends on river stage, and many other variables, but generally about half speed north.

This boat sounds SMOOTH, not vibrating & rattling & cavitating
This type of vessel design definitely prioritizes crew comfort. Main engines are Cummins. I haven’t dealt with them much, but seem good to me.
What boat are you on this trip capt.
What are you moving capin
