Agreed this made a big difference for me years ago when I first saw Davie doing it. The bleaching the quills made a difference too. They seem a bit thinner (in a good way) and take the varnish/resin better when finishing.

I have tyed some mice patterns in the past as well as the Morrish pattern, we don't really fish them here so that's mainly the reason for them not being tyed..I will look at tying one though there's many good patterns on TH-cam as I did a quick search to see..
