NYO perform Mighty River by Errolyn Wallen

In August 2020, NYO and NYO Inspire musicians came together to reflect and express themselves through music, following the death of George Floyd and the protests against racial violence across the world.
These musicians wanted to immerse themselves in music by Black composers, and share this music with the world, to use their platform to shine a light on music that has so often been neglected.
Our jumping off point was Errolyn Wallen's Mighty River, a piece written to mark the anniversary of the abolition of slavery act; music that explores themes of slavery and freedom, with gospel music and spirituals at its core.
