"Bob (the tall one) has been diagnosed with Ataxia. It affects his balance and his speech, but does not affect his thinking. We appreciate your understanding and support!" He's getting therapy and is doing better. In this video he sounds much improved. I have to get my 87 year old mother walking again. She has a chronic lung disease (never smoked a day in her life) and with her being home bound for 2 years, largely due to her worry about Covid exposure, I am trying to find ways to get her back outside and walking. I’m afraid she gets more depressed and withdrawn as each day passes. I work full time and she just this morning said her hip bones were aching more and more. I’m hoping to find time to take her to the local university hospital where she USED to go pre-virus, and get her enrolled in their large fitness center that is part of their larger heart health wing. I need a place to work out too so I’m hoping even a few days per week to start, working up to 4 or 5 days a week, might get her spirits up and restore her confidence and lessen her fear of falling-especially if she’s alone. She lives with my son, who just started college, and me so at least she has people here for her. I’m so glad I found your channel. I think it’s a great service you guys do and I thank you for sharing your skills with us. (Ironically, I worked a long time at the OTHER large hospital in town, in their PT office. I know what quality, in-person PT costs so the fact that you guys put this out there for free is nothing short of heroic in my opinion. Thank you both so much.) 👍❤️

Thank you for sharing your story about your mom. It is wonderful that you have her living with you and your son. My mom, 88 years old with full blown dementia, lives with me and I'm her only caregiver, so I have empathy and understanding for anyone giving loving care towards their elderly parents. The Bible says to honor our parents and to take care of widows and orphans. You'll be in my prayers. God bless you and shine His face on you Greg.

@@John-fq2io Thank you so much for your kind words and your prayers. I will pray for you and your mother as well. I watched my mother’s father, and my mother’s and grandmother’s grief, as my grandmother was forced to put my grandfather in a “nursing home” in 1974. I’m the oldest of my cousins on mom’s side of the family, and feel fortunate to have memories of him before his Alzheimer’s struck him so suddenly and severely. He was sweet, soft-spoken very large man who was beloved by his his two sons and two daughters-one of whom, my mothers 3 year old little sister Mary, when a polio epidemic swept through their small town in north-central Ohio in 1938. My grandfather would let me help tend his HUGE red raspberry patch and and large garden and read me books about astronauts and space travel-this was in 1969 and the early 70’s when everyone was talking about the Apollo 11 and the moon landing-and he was a history teacher at the local HS for 30 years when one day, around 1974 I think, he got in his car and couldn’t remember how to get home. My grandma did her best to keep him with her but she was tiny and had never had a driver’s license and he quickly became a danger to himself by walking out the door and becoming lost. The “nursing home” that was closest to their home was much more like something out of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (I know they’ve become much better now) but I watched my mom and grandma-who walked the 4 mile round trip for THIRTEEN YEARS, to give my grandfather his lunch or dinner and, when we drove up at least 3 weekends every month, my mother would take him a chocolate malt from the local ice cream shop, which were one of his favorite things. Dementia and Alzheimer’s are so cruel and I watched these two women who loved him so much, have to watch him, forget who they were within the first two years or so, and then be unable to speak at all in another year or two and I promised her when I was 10 or 11 that I “won’t ever put you in a place like this.” I am so sorry to hear that you are having to go through this with your mother and I will pray for you and your mom and family as well. I have always wondered why, in so many countries, the elderly are revered and cared for by their families and here, the elderly so often become a burden, an inconvenience, people who are ignored and warehoused. I realize that, as in my grandma and grandpa’s case, it is often impossible for people to keep their elderly parents with them and finding a decent place for them to get the care they deserve is absolutely astronomically expensive. I found that out first-hand when my father was diagnosed with with dementia several years ago and then, in September of 2020, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and had surgery on September 22nd, and then got the news that this, what I thought was a very easy cancer to cure, was a rare form of liposarcoma that was extremely aggressive. My father declined any treatments and he passed away last May 17th at age 86. He was a Methodist minister and wasn’t going to interfere with God’s plans. Still, in the last 3 weeks of his life, he needed full time palliative care and if he hadn’t planned ahead, I would have had to come up with 60 thousand dollars just to get him in the door of the place he wanted to go. Unbelievable and sad that people have to literally become bankrupt in order to spend their last time with their family in a place that will help keep them comfortable and safe! God bless and your mother John. Your kindness and devotion is inspiring to people like me. God bless you and keep you. Your kind words mean so much to me. ❤️🙏❤️

      @@gregusmc2868Dear Greg,
I am Yogen from India. I not very active on internet but do see Bob & Brad channel whenever possible. Read your words, which were reflecting love in your heart. I am sure Love is supreme and if we have that in our hearts then we don't feel the forces of destiny pressing on us. I feel that unless we do our duty towards our parents , our 'progress' in life is meaningless.
A disease can destroy part of manifested identity. We may also sense the 'complete' loss happening infront of us, when we are taking care of our dear ones. But a loss is complete only when the person is lost from the hearts of those who love him/her.
The memory may leave but consciousness exists unaffected. It is accessible through love. Selfless love itself is manifestation of God.
I will pray for you and your mom. She will walk confidently. All the strength will flow to her because the bond of love between you and her will attract and awaken the truth, morality, aesthetics 'triad' in the cosmos towards you.
May be one day Alzheimer has remedy from science but still some other form of sorrow will put us to test. Love is andvwill remain universal and eternal in our hearts. In those times, even when we become interstellar species though science and tech, only our Love will make us truly cosmic citizens. Else, confined to new space age prejudices and creeds, we will never be truly free. Love is not yet another mere human emotion explained by psychologist with its evolutionary need of emergence but it is a connecting bond with which our consciousness connects with the universal consciousnesses.
I can relate to the multifaceted issues we face as children when we need to take care of our elderly parents. The specifics of issues might differ from one family to another, from one country to another. But if we are pure in our hearts and intensly want to do anything that takes for our parents, answers to our problems magically appear. We need to believe in ourselves. You have kept your promises. No challenge of life could make you forget the promise you gave as a 10 year old boy. That is the strength of your love.
One day, sooner or later , everone of us will have to take leave of this current body. But isn't it satisfuying to live selflessly, full of love, compassion, care, tenderness towards others, content in heart while we pass our life-span which is nothing but a moment in the eternity of cosmic time. It gives meaning to our fragile existence.
Just don't worry. You have 'God' with you in the form of love you have in your heart for your mom. We all are connected....
My regards and love for your family.....
      - Yogen, India
PS: Just recalled.. recently saw 2 nice movies : The Father (2020) and Apollo 10 and half : A space age childhood ( 2022 Animation ) I hope you will like watching them.

It's crazy how many lung diseases/conditions there are and yet most people think you have to be a smoker to have a lung problem. I hope you are able to get her walking again. Is she on oxygen? It's been hard getting mom out to the park or gym during the summer months, but I have managed to get her to walk around shopping during the slow times.

But I'm pretty sure you bend your knees some when you march corps style.
Nope, I tried it. While you certainly could, I think the erect and tall posture prevents it.
So put on a black coat, nose glasses, a markered mustache, and curly, black hair, and walk down the hall bent at the knee and say, "Say the secret woid and the duck'll come down and give you a hunnert dallahs!"

It is. It's the same with wearing high heels.
Edit: when walking in high heels and stepping heel first, it makes a loud sound on hard floors and tiles, almost like a hammer. Step first with the toe, it gives a little tap, and the heel comes down more easily and quietly.

@@becky7773 it's natural and hard-wired into a toddler not to venture over a perceived drop-off even if glass is over it to make a continuous, safe floor. When we get older, we are able to overcome heights even if it gives us the willies. Otherwise people would not climb mountains, ride to the top of the St. Louis Arch, do aerial acrobatics, ride amusement park rides, build skyscrapers, and much more.
We don't have wings, and yet we make things to help us fly.
So your argument regarding God-given traits falls flat. So to speak.
And it is easy to test with someone listening to the ground while another walks in moccasins-or otherwise measure the sound, like with using a board to the ground to listen, or even use a stethoscope. Or a seismometer.
Or even test the phenomenon by wearing high heels.
      This is called science.

Putting your high heels away is not germain to the argument and is beyond it's scope.

This is a brilliant tutorial. I don’t think my glute muscles have ever fired while walking. My husband pointed out to me recently that I tip forward when I stand and walk so I’m completely quad dominant plus my posture is appalling. I’m a tall woman and I think I have spent years hunching over to try and look shorter. Could you please do more walking videos? Especially what to do with upper body as well. When I try to stand and walk “properly” I find my mid to upper back muscles start to fatigue in a matter of seconds. The position feels so strange and uncomfortable but I would love to be able to train myself to walk upright with great posture.

The timing of this is so amazing. After a foot injury 3.5 years ago (which I didn't get treated until a few months ago, but that's a different story), I walked so poorly. I was favoring the injured foot. But also, I forgot how to walk correctly. For the last year, the hamstring pain in that leg has gotten ridiculous and sometimes so painful that it's easier to just not walk. The amazing part is that it was just a few days ago that, by chance, I tried walking on my toes for a few steps. The hamstring pain lifted that quickly. Today I went for a walk of about six miles, and every time my hamstring flared up, I tried to step down with more weight in my toes than my heel, and the hamstring eased up a little. Now I'm seeing this video and it makes sense!! I'm going to work on this glute amnesia every day!! Thank you!

Watch you and one of you laid down and the other took a hold gently and twisted and it gave me an idea. I have no one , but i took my housecoat belt and tied it to my lower bed leg and tied it to my left leg and while on the floor, i pulled my self to the door frame and pulled and twisted and , it worked, the pain was gone, never to return. I believe everything you do works. Thanks, I am 82, still do my yard work house work, Gave up cleaning my gutters as i get dizzy once in a while. Love you guys

Oh guys. Have to say, this was a hard one for me. I’m trying to walk more and often clock up in excess of 10,000 steps. If I have understood you correctly, (and I may not have) I should be walking on tip toe first to engage my glutes or slowly AND in a funny position. Not doable. Here I was all excited thinking- at last! I find a way to use and develop my butt muscles so I don’t have a flat butt.
But no. It seems like the only way is to do exercises at home- in addition to the walking.
    Am I missing something here?

Thank you guys for this video and all the ones you've made. Could you please do a video on how to properly use a saddle stool/chair? I have one in an effort to improve my desk posture because I'd get sciatica and IP pain constantly for years. I've not been getting it for almost a year now since I've included stretches and exercises for it and I wear Vibrams or go barefoot most of the time. It's made a huge difference. Earlier this week I was at my desk a lot more than normal due to technical issues and I used the saddle stool the entire time. I did get up and walk throughout the time. I went to bed fine, but the next day when I got up I was having the kind of extreme sciatica attack that's scent me to the ER before. In fact, the only times I've had it really bad on my right side has been those times. Anytime I've had it in the past year, which was daily until I started doing the right stretches and strengthening, it's been on my left side. Right now it's on both sides and on my right it's doing the full groin wrap around, down the outside of the entire leg, around the knee, down the inner thigh and back up from my Achilles tendon. My leg, groin, and hip area is hurting so bad off and on that I'm not even feeling the back pain. Every muscle is as hard as a rock in spite of using a massager, taking muscle relaxers, and trying to stretch them out. I'm admittedly not able to do most of my normal stretches at this time without experiencing excruciating pain. I think I sat with my legs splayed more open than I should on it, because I naturally sit Indian style and I have to stop myself from doing that because it causes me to get sciatica. I definitely have weak glutes. I'd like to believe they're getting better, but clearly not enough. I've sliced multiple muscles in two on one leg, torn tendons in the other, have had stress fractures in both, and have long-term chronic tendonitis that flares up when the wind blows wrong. 😝 Maybe not quite, but it seems like it and it's joined the party today. I'm doing everything I can think of to try and get this to stop because it's easy 8s on the pain scale when it goes full on. History tells me it'll eventually go away, but I'd really like to not accidentally do it to myself again. The only thing I can think of was that stool. I can't sit in normal chairs for a long time. My sciatica ends up pinching and I've fractured my tailbone a few times from just sitting. Nobody wants to be a person that can happen to. 😂 If you guys could show the correct way to use the saddle stool and what not to do, my body, myself, and everyone who has to listen to me cry and curse would probably be deeply in your debt. I woke up fine this morning and thought all was well, then a few hours later it just slammed back into me without a build up. My glutes and certain muscles in both my hamstrings and quads stay tight. Up until the last few months, I've had chronic myofascial pain in both the piriformis and gluteus medius (My apologies if I got those names wrong. I'm better at pointing and calling them "here".) for many, many years to such a degree that the lightest touch would send me jumping out of my skin along with major hip instability. I've worked really hard trying to correct those problems and was really shocked the first time I didn't involuntarily jerk from pain when touched at those points. They still stayed tight and I have to stay on top of the routine, but they've been getting better slow and steady. Whatever I did has placed me all the way back to times when I've been unable to walk. I don't want to do it again once I manage to come back out of this. If I'm feeling things correctly, which I may not be, the sacroiliac (sp?) region feels like there's a goose egg under my skin and I really think most of the pain is radiating from there and the piriformis. With their tightness just causing a chain reaction. Also, my hips, knees, and back keep popping constantly with those deep thunking pops. My joints always pop, but not anywhere close to this degree. It also feels like the tendon or muscle in my groin/inner thigh area is thunking over something also. I think it's due to everything is so tight it just feels like there's constant tug-of-war over rocky surfaces going on under my skin. I know this is a crazy amount of info and I apologize for that. I don't expect a response to this. I'm just hoping if y'all do a video on correct ergonomics of the saddle stool, you can figure out what I did wrong with all the info I've included. I thought they were supposed to help with hip stability. On that day, I was also wearing a back support because I wanted to make sure I was using good posture and I know my lower back and stomach aren't there yet. Thanks guys. Btw, I can attest to the difference going toe to heel instead of heel to toe makes. I go barefooted or wear Vibrams as much as possible because I find it challenging to not strike my heel down hard in any other shoe or boot. Those shoes were game changers for me in both comfort and stability. If only they weren't so darn ugly. 😂 On the plus side, they're easy conversation starters. It either goes along the lines of "I love my Vibrams, too! I found some for $30! Can you believe it?!" or "What in the world is on your feet?" I figured it beats the tennis shoes I once had that had a spring in the heel that showed. I don't remember what they were called. Everyone called them my "alien shoes" for some reason. The Vibrams are much more comfortable. Have a great day, guys, and please ignore and forgive my anxious rambling. It's a pain thing for me. 🦋
