Not every Oiler fan hates him I f**ing loved watching him dominate when he was on the ice even if it was for just that one season in 2006. Usually the best player on the ice by a country mile. You could feel the stress of the game just disappear off you when he stepped on the ice the way he controlled almost every aspect of the play. Probably my favourite D man to every put on an Oiler jersey. He didn't play to make friends he played to win. Got my respect right there
I live in Asia and thoroughly enjoy watching your videos while I prepare for work. You always have a very well rounded unique input on a variety of hockey subjects. Keep it up!
Pronger to me is the definition of a great defensemen. So good on D. So physical. Big strong. And you can't deny he wasn't good. He won the Hart for crying out. And every team he went to became great. That's why he's a hall of famer. Ya he was dirty at times but you know what, that was just his game. You hear him in real life and he's a great guy. You should do a video on his career
I recall reading a report from a reputable, long time hockey reporter, that Pronger had actually requested a trade far earlier in the season, but management at the time either couldn't or wouldn't do so and thus he stayed the full year. Just a darn shame Rolli was injured and the Oilers didn't win the cup.
As a bruins fan who lives an hour from edmonton, that 2006 team was unbelievable. One of my favourite teams ever, it’s indescribable how gritty and well bonded that team was, loved every player on the team. Damn shame rolli got hurt, also a damn shame ty conklin had to replace him and then fuck up instead of markiannen haha.
The infidelity rumors always baffled me. Because we all know if you're cheating on your wife in Edmonton, the best place to go to avoid temptation is southern California.
Brendan Meehan LOL, so true. I still remember this from back in Edmonton 2006, the Chris Pronger infidelity rumors were definitely pure BS. A bunch of local Oiler fanboys basically started it on Oilers message boards and Oilers forums. Pronger didn't want his wife to take the brunt of the hate from the local Edmonton fans by publicly saying that his wife did not want to live in Edmonton, so Pronger just said the reason for requesting a trade was for "family reasons". Some Oiler fanboys immediately took that as meaning infidelity because that's all their neanderthal knuckle dragging brains could think up. Back then there was this young attractive looking local female sports reporter in Edmonton who covered the Oilers games for A-Channel News at the time (sorry I forgot what her name was). Some Oiler fanboys one day decided to use their own primitive neanderthal intuiton and tried to put two and two together by placing this young attractive local female sports reporter into the equation, and assumed what Pronger meant by saying "family reasons" and that's basically how the whole infidelity rumor started. No based evidence, facts, or statements whatsoever. It took off and spread like wildfire because it was a sensational trashy school girl type of gossip. These Oiler fanboys are typically people who have lived in Edmonton their whole entire lives and have absolutely no idea or understanding that a northern artic wasteland of a city like Edmonton may be deemed undesirable to live in by other people, especially American socialites like Chris Pronger's wife.
I feel like putting someone who has dealt with the system a lot and knows how players can try to get away with things on the safety committee can be good. Putting Reaves or Wilson there after they retire could be good too. They have helpful experience.
immortally insane you're really happy that one of the best defensemen of his generation had his career ended by a puck to the eye and head trauma??? Even with the dirty plays, no one deserves to have that happen to them. I can understand not liking the player, there are a bunch I dislike, but I would never celebrate any injury, let alone a career ending one.
FalseCredential, Is good thing Pronger is out. Otherwise he would have carried on hurting other players and probably ending other players carreers We all like good players of their generations, but not when they are assholes and rats.. cheap shoting, intentional hurting other players, etc etc
Bob Stauffer, a member of the Oilers organisation, confirmed several times that it was in fact his Wife refusing to move to Edmonton. He had to fly back to St. Louis on his days off to see his kids. According to Stauffer, Pronger actually requested a trade in February, so he deserves props for at least finishing the season.
Ryan Shantz Pronger never publicly stated what the exact reason was for his trade request because he didn't want his wife to take the blunt of the hate from the local fans by saying that his wife didn't want it to live in Edmonton, so that left the door wide open for rumors to grow and fester, and in a smaller city like Edmonton where hockey is an obsessive cult, those rumors are going to spread like a massive wildfire.
I'll put it to you this way... Even after all the circus that followed the trade request and all the rumours and all that craziness, I'm still saying he was the best D man in the world at that time. That's how dominant he was. You could literally feel your heart rate drop when he stepped onto the ice because you could just relax knowing he had everything under control. And he did have everything under control. Such a calming presence And I was an emotional 20 year old Oiler fan that watched that whole 2006 playoff run as well and I'm still saying he was the best lol
As a long time Oiler fan, its importsnt to note there is another reason he was hated based off of the trade demand. The Oilers were terrible for years before that, and due to ownership budgets, they were losing any high end talent that they developed. After the lockout, we had a cap for the first time and many teams were forced to drop higher end talent, such as St. Louis with Pronger. He signed for 6 years in Edmonton and reinvigorated Oilers fans and gave us hope. A cup final just increased that feeling.... until he dropped the trade bomb within days of losing game 7 of the finals. He helped pick the fans up.... and proceeded to drop them on their heads. Big reason he's hated to this day.
I disagree in the sense that he was so dominant at that time that no return would've been good enough to replace him. Honestly I'm gonna go as far as to say he was the best defenseman in the world at that time
Could you please do a video on the Stanley Cup and it’s removable rings, and the fact that Geordie Howe, Bobby Hull, and Maurice Richards names were just removed and retired in the Hall of fame. Now we will have a new ring for the Caps or Vegas. It would be great to hear you talk about it.
I was living and working in the province at the time and the local scuttlebutt was scandalous. It was exactly along the lines of the early part this video, and I was going to add in a bit in my finalists video comment, but I held off. Funny to hear it echoed here though.

It's strange that players who grew up playing a winter sport are too precious to live in winter climates. You're paid millions of $ to play a game that's on ice. Which is popular in places that also have ice. If that's too tough for you go take up surfing. You have the rest of your life to sleep in and go to the beach every Friday.
Him going on the Jim Rome show and lying about fans burning his furniture didn’t help his credibility when he claimed they were lies. When a lier call something a lie?..... hate him for his actions but I never understood how much a defenceman of that caliber could control a game.... he was a magnificent hockey player. 😑
This was devastating. I remember exactly the moments when the trade request came out and the trade happaned. I honestly still hate Pronger for this lol I don't care if he didn't like the rumors too bad so sad.
johno5757 And if Oiler fanboys didn't decide to start rumors on message boards and forums like the way they did maybe the trade wouldn't have turned out so bitter as it did. Something to think about.
It's a free country, I can hate a player and I don't ever have to get over it. You get over it. I doubt those message board rumours had any effect on anything but we can agree to disagree. For us in Edmonton this was like if Fleury demanded a trade out of Vegas next week.
"That's a hockey you know, it's only, it's only game, why you have to be mad??? He's a good guy. He maybe tired to live here because here a November month its a minus 32, could you imagine??? It's a 8 months in 8 months in a year snow. Hold on, hold on, I'm not finished! Here is like a north, North Pole!"
Yea it was quite the circus lol Basically Oiler fans were so used to scratching and clawing their way into the playoffs every other year for 7th or 8th spot pretty much knowing they were gonna get their asses kicked anyway simply cuz they just didn't have the talent. Last time they were relevant from there was 1990. So from 1990 to 2004 it was the same thing every year 😑 Then the 2004/2005 lockout happens for the entire season and then hockey is back 2005/2006 which was weird all on its own. And then some trades and signings bringing in a D man like Pronger which nobody really believed would change the same playoff status quo they were used to for so many years Then the playoffs come. Barely squeak into the 8th spot as usual against the President Trophy winning Red Wings so were all thinking here we go again gonna get our asses kicked 😑 But they didn't 😲 That's when we realized how God damn good Pronger was and it was unfathomable that the best D man in the league was an Oiler let alone them making the Finals that year lol. It was crazy all around. Came completley outta nowhere. I remember looking at the paper at the playoff tree and seeing those last 2 teams left and the Oilers were one of them...I just could not bring myself to believe what I was seeing To top off that whole thing you hear about the trade rumour and then the trade and boom it's the following season no Pronger. Like what in the hell just happened? Lol It was insane
LOL those suspensions are only the shots he got caught for maybe 1/2 of the total... he was a dirty player of the 1st order and like Shannon says how in the HELL? did the NHL put him in player safety...
And I think the favorites are New York, Boston, Cali teams, Florida teams, Toronto and Vancouver. (in some of those cities fanbases can be pretty harsh, so playing there may not be a blast :D but for living conditions I think those are the ones where players would love to live willingly)

@Moisaro1
Sure was 👍
Almost a damn near buy in ticket to the final if he was on your team from the Oilers on until his unfortunate injury
"let's be clear Pronger was hated by everyone"
I died lol
Wow Shannon! You'll hit 50k, buy the end of the week. Great work!
Mikkel Steiner end of the week? Lol by draft day likely.

Loved him in St Louis.

Hey he needed to keep warm somehow in Edmonton.
I feel like putting someone who has dealt with the system a lot and knows how players can try to get away with things on the safety committee can be good. Putting Reaves or Wilson there after they retire could be good too. They have helpful experience.
Chris Pronger being head of safety. Admit he's an expert on what makes this action illegal and why the suspension was warranted from his playing days.
Loved Pronger in Philly, he always was a dirty player, but damn was he good. Shame his career ended early because of the injury
it's called karma, dirty player now paying the consequences
fuck him! glad the way his career ended. i have 0 respect for the asshole.
amen!

You mean he deserves props for completley dominating every game even with all that personal crap going on. Just a beast on the ice
If you ever been to edmonton would not like living there either compared to many other possibilities in the league.
He was only in edmonton for a year, but damn it, he's still my all-time favorite for Oilers defenseman 🤘
Ah pronger physics. Pronger is to edmonton as Messier is to Vancouver
Checkin back in from 2021
Wish I was older so I could have seen him play. From what I've seen he was an absolute unit.
I'll put it to you this way...

My dad still hates pronged because of this.
Illyric yeah auto correct kinda screwed me on that comment
EVERY Ducks video is centered around hate... Ducks have feelings too
As a Ducks fan I love this trade
As a flames fan, #Metoo
rob scott and chris were the best defensive trio.
Well duh lol
Add in that Jim Rome likes to troll Oiler fans that Chris Pronger is a great guy. He did meet him in person when he was in Anaheim.
Love the Videos

Hal Martin It's a free country, the man can go where he wants. Get over it.
OVI-Wan Kenobi Completely missing the point. Move on, boy.
No one wants to play in Edmonton I wouldn’t be surprised if McDavid requests a trade. Edmonton is the worst Canadian hockey city living wise
St Louis loved pronger he was a badass
Good video Shannon
Still haven't gotten over this. Every time I see or hear his name, my blood pressure instantly goes up.
It's a free country, the man can go and play where he wants. Get over it.

How many different comments have you responded to in this video?
Lol
What I clearly remember saying after this trade was the Oilers just handed the Ducks the Cup.
One year later…..
What the oilers got in return for pronger who didn’t play THAT much longer wasnt bad at all
I disagree in the sense that he was so dominant at that time that no return would've been good enough to replace him. Honestly I'm gonna go as far as to say he was the best defenseman in the world at that time

If I could start a team and draft any player from the past 25 years, Pronger would be high on my list, certainly for D-men.
he wasn't shy to tell gm's trade me.
I was living and working in the province at the time and the local scuttlebutt was scandalous. It was exactly along the lines of the early part this video, and I was going to add in a bit in my finalists video comment, but I held off. Funny to hear it echoed here though.
i am a huge ducks fan, and i just hated that pronger got a stanley cup with my favorite team
You should do the erat forsberg trade next . What a tough day that was .
holy shit, the Blues Pronger as their captain!
iron 13 he was captain of the Flyers before his career ending injury as well
he's like he's a real-life Hanson brothers.'
maybe if he had a poster reminding himself "Stuff I did=bad"
I don't think Pronger cared where he played I do believe it was his wife that got him to move its sad.
Ryan Scherbluk blue pill world
I remember pronger was a beast in the Nhl 06 game
I always see Pronger as a Whaler!Go Whalers!!!
Depending on what happens with Ryan Strome this summer... this could be the end of the Pronger trade tree.

players dont want to live in edmonton winnepeg ottawa or calgary
That's not true, most players move to Calgary, even if they never played here. some just move away over winter. And edmonton has worse winters by far.
