  • An online artist talk by Amy Sillman, The Cooper Union School of Art Fall 2020 Alex Katz Chair in Painting, was held on December 3, 2020. As an introduction to her work, Amy Sillman described some of her artistic principles which are available at bit.ly/37Nb4cT.
    Based in New York, Amy Sillman is renowned for her singular approach to painting and drawing. Her work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions at the Arts Club of Chicago, Illinois; Camden Arts Centre, London; Drawing Center, New York; and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C. among others. Her works are also held in the collections of institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. For the Museum of Modern Art’s reopening in fall 2019, and on view until October 2020, Sillman curated the exhibition, “Artist’s Choice: Amy Sillman-The Shape of Shape.” Her newest book Amy Sillman: Faux Pas: Selected Writings and Drawings, with a foreword by author Lynne Tillman, was published in October.
    The Alex Katz Chair was founded in 1999 by the School of Art with generous support by alumnus Alex Katz. The Chair provides a one-semester visiting professorship to a distinguished artist working in the fields of Painting and Drawing.

    Really interesting talk with a great painter, especially how she has tackled creating during the time of Covid.
