"Why are expectations so high? Is it the bar I set? My arms, I stretch, but I can’t reach" Both "stretch" and "reach" are terms used to denote a "bar" that the writer didn't intend. By "I can't reach" he's saying that all his bars are there - because he set the bar so high in this rap game with his... bars. So he's saying that if you're listening to his lyrics and you don't know if it's a bar or a stretch, it's more probably a bar. "'Cause I'm just a man, but as long as I got a mic, I'm godlike, so me and you are not alike, b**ch, I wrote Stan" Just 3 words: "I wrote Stan" On the surface level it's a little double entendre: 1. he wrote the song Stan, 2. he wrote a letter to Stan. The deeper meaning: Stan represents a demanding fan that expects things (e.g. writing back) from an artist. In this whole song Eminem is asking himself if he can please his fans that demand good lyrics/songs/albums from him. In the song Stan, although it was too late, he indeed wrote Stan back at the end. So metaphorically he's saying that he delivered to his fans what they demanded from him. It's a perfect intro song for an album, because the whole song he questions himself and at the end of the song he says this, which basically translates to "Of course I made a good album, here it is". And then goes the rest of the album. Or maybe I'm just reaching... :D

I highly recommend watching “I Need A Doctor” from Dre, Em, and Skyler Grey. Revival and Kamikaze were great albums. The “funny” parody-type songs were pretty popular back in the day, or the “angry” songs against his mom or ex. That’s what a lot of people know Em from, and probably like more. I liked those too, but the *real*, deep songs were my thing, not just the singles and radio songs
Man, you have no idea I've just started to listen to Em recently (sorry that im late) and I was blown away by each songs of him from 90s to 10s. This song is a poem, when I first heard it I didn’t like, it wasn’t a side of Em I grew up with, over time it’s become one of my favourite Em songs. The last verse into the chorus gets my throat tight, you can feel his pain and vulnerability in the song!!

I am 26 and I don't want to be alive when EM is gone . My first memories are from me as a child vibing to his album with my dad( He doesn't speak English at all ) but was pretending to like it so he can connect with me. That was one of the first times someone else's story made me appreciate what I have. I think he might be the most authentic human being on this planet and love him with all my hearth ( no homo) . It's crazy for me how there are so many people like me in Europe that never stopped appreciating him 20 years later , even the most far away villages in Bulgaria know who Eminem is , but there are so many Americans that shit on him . He is probably the most amazing thing that the U.S produced in its short history .
i imagine em has a bunch of albums and songs that will drop even after hes gone. I dont think hes the type of guy to let dieing getting in the way of being number 1
Getting chills right along with you. If Em was independent from the jump, we could only imagine what else he could have dropped. I Love Tom and Nova today just as much as I still love Em when I first listen back in 97-98
Great breakdown of a really good album...I love this album actually cause he's doing what he does best letting you in...to me the crumpling of the paper signifies EM trying to write the perfect verse ✌🏽🤓
This is a masterpiece... Ppl will always hate on something with this man.. Fans and critics was saying that all he did was yell at the mic and talked about too much vaguer shit. But when he got off the medicine and got sober.. He showed his "Vulnerable side" and ppl hated/clowned that he was too Political and emotional.. I think now he knows what he wants for himself and doesn't really give a shit about what haters say. He's been killin' it these past few years. TBH I think he's at his best. His sharpest. Love this song man..
Gotta say man I’ve became a fan of your reactions. My last comment was ignorant and I apologize for that. You are a dope reactor just took time to realize it 🤝
Great job boss. This one chokes me up frfr. But the next track...I think I suggested Believe way back when you reacted to Best Friend. Looking forward to it 🔥💯❤️
oh yay! I didn't even realize you also had so many older reactions for Eminem. I'm an Eminem and Aurora fan. And MM and NIN haha. You should check out Chad VanGaalen and Joseph Arthur for amzing artistic music with deep lyrics (most of the time). They have some older songs that are amazing. I mean even check them out on your own (Chad- Willow Tree, Into the Molecule, Joseph- big city secrets, wasted, redemptions son.. Procupine is one of my favs but probably too "off beat" for people who like mainstream music which is completely understandable) Also rehab, they are kind of like rock/rap fusion reminds me of eminem, their songs are very self deprecating but almost in a good way (such as drinking problem and It don't matter from them)
Another little nice detail of this album is that the first words are 'why are expectations so high' and the last ones in Arose are 'now i know'. Such an amazing Artist.
Obviously a major stretch, but every time I hear the “pressure increases, like khakis” it brings me to wonder if it’s a Jim Harbaugh reference, with how high expectation are for Michigan football, even with a undefeated record going into a buckeye rivalry game, a loss to ohio state is looked at as a failed season. Harbaugh beginning his coaching in 2015, he was brought in to put the program back on track. Harbaugh was known for wearing khakis. Again a major stretch but my mind goes there every time
Good job man ! But if you're doing Believe next, brace yourself my guy 😉 Walk on water and Believe both tug on my heartstrings for Em. It's a whole another side of him ! Can't wait to see your reaction. Subbed ! 😉
I know this is an old reaction but I hate the crap he gets. Do people really want to hear a 50 year old man singing my bum is on your lips. Wtf. Puts out such extremely personal stuff and people shit on it. You don't have to like it but don't just dump on it. I appreciate your reactions 🙂👍
This album was really personable. It did have a few bad songs but most were deep. To be honest I didn't like it at first but I just kinda skimmed though it tbh. Later when I actually listened it was fire
The album was so disliked because people got ahold of the track list before the album came out and they saw the features and formed their opinions that the album was trash before they even heard the first song and when it came out nobody wanted to be wrong so instead of admitting it they doubled down on the hate. The point in the video with all those EMINEMs at the typewriters is a play on the idea that if you put a thousand monkeys in a room and gave them each a typewriter with infinite time eventually one would hit the keys at random in just the right order to completely type Shakespeare’s classics so you had a bunch of copies of him typing away nonsense and you’d occasionally see a random word until eventually the one at the end of the video stood up to reveal he wrote Stan which is considered his most iconic classic song.
Finally a reaction that understands and respects the song......

Dj Khaled new album just dropped its called God did an there's a ton of features including one with eminem an Kanye west
This song is a poem, when I first heard it I didn’t like, it wasn’t a side of Em I grew up with, over time it’s become one of my favourite Em songs. The last verse into the chorus gets my throat tight, you can feel his pain and vulnerability in the song!!
💯💯💯🔥🔥🎼🎼
❤️
IMO......Believe is a top 5 Em song for me.....its just bonkers......I mean super bar heavy...so many things to catch....cant wait to watch u do this reaction.......im here for it....SALUTE
Just did it today 🙏
I'll be looking for the post bro......TY for that... I appreciate it fully
People are sheep! Thats why. People follow the herd and listen to other people for an album review rather than trying it for themselves. This is a beautiful song!!! Just with Beyonce is on this it should jave been a radio hit. It's a shame they didn't respect this album and Eminem for the great work he did! Give this man his flowers before it6's too late!
I Love Tom and Nova today just as much as I still love Em when I first listen back in 97-98
I like: I subscribe: I want more: Em. 😁
Lol Roxie!! You always like and subscribe 😊 ❤️! More Eminem is definitely coming
You are a dope reactor just took time to realize it 🤝
~6:24 As a writer, I'm pausing to say I know EXACTLY what that feels like, and you're about to relate to it too...
There are few songs on Revival that don't sound good, but generally Revival is very good.
Please please please react to untouchable from Revival.
Again a major stretch but my mind goes there every time
I'm watch till the end bro very good reaction u should react to eminem untouchable
Now you HAVE to listen to the Speedom Verse
Already done 🙏
I love this song xx it's defos underrated xx❤️xx
Are you familiar with Speedom? By World Wide Choppers? He even mentions it in this song lol if not go watch it NOW 🤣
The people that just wanted to complain to complain
I love this album. You should react to Bad Husband off this album if you haven't already. It's another great song that's totally underrated ❤
Good job man !
But if you're doing Believe next, brace yourself my guy 😉
Walk on water and Believe both tug on my heartstrings for Em.
Bad husband
Needed me
Please! Revival is a dope album 🐐
You have to listen to Em with headphones to get the full effect of his songs. Always something/sound effects in the background.
