    My name is Hammo and I stream on Twitch! I play a variety of "map games" and strategy games, but my favourite game by far is Hearts of Iron IV.
    I love this game and it's complexity, strategy and historical focus, but these are also reasons people can find it hard to get into Hoi4. The endless spreadsheets, statistics, buffs and debuffs can be overwhelming without someone to show you the ropes, which is where this channel comes in!
    I will be creating and posting beginners guides, tutorials, walkthroughs, tips and tricks videos, just about everything I can to get you playing and enjoying Hearts of Iron IV as much as I do!

    A few tips that will, in my opinion, make your life easier in hoi4 without using too much cheesing:
    1. add support AA in all your divisions
    This will deny enemy air support and make them bleed, downing hundreds of CAS and bombers per day, even level 1 AA reduces pentalties by whopping 67%
    2. Don't add engineers to every unit
    While engineers are a cool addition to defensive templates offensive divisions dont benefits as much, and engineers cost a lot (30 support equipment per division). For offensive version of engineers use medium tank flame company.
    3. If you use tanks, don't add to many support companies to the template.
    Support companies while attractive reduce armor, piercing, organizations, and some other stats that are really important to tanks, use only what you really need (like AA)
    4. Aim for at least 35-40 organization in your templates.
    This will help you stay in battle longer and use all other stats to their fullest potential.
    5. Don't stress too much about combat width.
    While there are some widths that are better than others, having fully supplied troops is more important

    Honestly, since i play alot of minor nations a big tip i got anyone, use that frontline 22 width and just use mountaineers as assaulting units u can increase the cap by getting more of those garrison template’s in the field, but add light tank recon on them, the tanks don’t have to be good either just for the speed bonuses alone this can be vital for encirclements!! And the reason why u want to use special forces like marines mountaineers or para’s is because u can upgrade them trough research on top of the doctrine you allready have, aswell as high army commanders who give extra special force attacks like Romania has, pretty much they enjoy both from special force bonus+ infantry bonus+ doctrine+their own research tree in the infantry equipment tab.

I like the details of what force-mixes are most effective for what jobs, but I've never really had any problems kicking ass with divisions that average about half the size of most of the ones you just showed. Granted my win percentages drop at the highest difficulties, but even then I can still pull it off with a bit more effort.

    Very nice guide, only one thing:
    Logistic companies, at least in SP, are not really worth it.
    They take way to much production and research to be worth it.
    You don't really need them in Europe, since there is enough supply, and by the time you are fighting in Asia and Russia (as long as you don't play Japan) you should already have Organizer for your field Marshall (especially with Italy, Russia and Germany since they can easily grind it in Spanish civil war or Ethiopia).
    And countries with small industry benefit more from other tech like engineers, AA, etc.

    • @hammotimee
      @hammotimee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I hear what you're saying, however I do disagree for the most part
      Supply companies should only really be used on your attacking divisions which use a lot of supply, so the amount of equipment you need isn't really that expensive. Most games I'll have around 3 mils on support equipment at the start of the game and that's all I need 😁
      You could get away without using them in Europe, but there are so many terrains where supply sucks, like Africa, China, the middle east etc

  • @farkasszabo7505
    @farkasszabo7505 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great explanation! One thing I think could be 'explained' more. When you go into your example divisions, lots of support companies are attached to them. In the beginning of the game (especially with smaller nations), you dont really have the capacity to do that. Are there 'must' support companies to include even in the early stages?

    • @hammotimee
      @hammotimee  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, and great point! For infantry, I would always start with artillery, AA then engineers if you want them

  • @Chironex_Fleckeri

    As an EU4 main im enjoying Hoi4 way more after recent DLCs. I think this is a major improvement as annoying as some people find it to have to keep track of so much more now with building templates. But it's great to see given the model these games operate on. I know for sure the recent updates to supply and CW and several others will go down as some of the better HoI4 design changes.
    I guess we should be patient with some newer titles. In 2017 HoI4 was much more simplistic. But our standards are set really high. I dont think PDX is quick to make big changes like this. Sad to see Imperator go the way it did. I still want Imperator II done in their newer UI style. That game is one of Paradox's best but least successful GS titles.

    personally, not saying your standard infantry design isn't bad. it looks pretty solid, but I prefer to have six infantry battalions, with one artillery battalion in the rear. then use the artillery, and engineer (logistics and field hospital occasionally) support companies. its a pretty well rounded unit, and is versatile in its usage on a a frontline.

    • @hammotimee
      @hammotimee  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah they absolutely have a use! I've been making some motorised divisions to pair up with my tanks to support them through a breakthrough, they're pretty much just fast infantry. If you want them to have good stats, mechanised is the better option as they actually have hardness too!

      I use these in lieu of tanks when I go mobile warfare (left branch/right branch) because they actually have a lot of attacking power and free up a lot of industry for your planes

    • @hammotimee
      @hammotimee  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would go for soft attack first, defence second, then breakthrough and hardness. Soft attack affects the softness % of enemy divisions (infantry) while hard attack affects the hardness % (tanks and mech). Mainly enemy divs are soft, so high softness is best. Defence is self explanatory, breakthrough is the defence your divisions have while attack (ie how long they can attack for before taking damage)

Oh the frustration of updating a template you thought was separate using scarce army exp and end up updating all of your troops thinking it would only apply to the new template. The division designer. The mechanic that caused me to write off HOI4 as an overrated slog, combined with the way equipment works Let’s see if a tutorial that goes in depth will change my mind.
    Edit: it did not. As soon as they started talking about “specialized divisions” I gave up. I don’t want to have a million different hyper specific situations covered, just let me have, like, three or four types of divisions that boil down to being good at attack or being good at defense. I’m specifically confused about what the point of “reserves” are. What’s the point of having units built if they’re just sitting around doing NOTHING?

    • @hammotimee
      @hammotimee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can absolutely just have a few different types of divisions and still do well! For example having a defensive infantry and an attacking infantry is the minimum of what you need. And then you can specialise as you see fit from there, but you certainly don't have to!
      And the point of having reserves is if you have guns but no support equipment, or holding them back in case of a breakthrough or naval invasion so they can quickly respond 😊

    • @craftsmenMC

Otherwise my brain is just seeing them sitting around doing nothing and immediately wanting to put them to use. Also, why would I need to have a separate tank division from my attack and defense divisions? Couldn’t I just put some tanks in those?

    • @hammotimee
      @hammotimee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@craftsmenMC Hahhaha no you won't die. It's just a case of what's optimal. You can use one division for every single purpose, but it won't excel at all of them. So specialising your divisions a bit is a good way to get more performance out of them, but it's not make or break.
      Most of the time you wouldn't really need divisions sitting around doing NOTHING, I think what you might be meaning is the port defence divisions? In which case they might look like they're doing nothing, but if you get naval invaded, defending your ports in very important
      And you can put tanks in your normal infantry, that's what would make them space marines, however doing so is really expensive for the most part and you need a lot of equipment to supply your whole army with tanks, vs 6 or so dedicated tank divisions, which have better stats overall so those tanks are more effective
