    I went through the entire campaign super rich by only using infantry, selling all the guns for cavalry and selling all the arty.. Soooo much money, best guns, easy game.

    FYI the latest version of the mod does impact the game balance a bit from the version you were previously using. Larger units no longer have their damage decreased and multiple perks have been fixed as well. Both of these can be disabled if you want to keep the balance consistent across this series. Just don't overwrite the resources.assets and set replaceSizeDegradationCurves to false in the config file.

    That worked out well, not sure why the AI didn't defend those woods with more of that large force they had. It is a big help to finally get some of those 2K men brigades to give you a better chance in shooting matches with their giant brigades.

    so i have an amazing strategy for the upcoming battle of gaines mills... i lost 4k on legendary when i did this battle now i only killed about 7k of his.... what i did was i took my troops and abandoned the fortifications... i went to the left down in the trees moved along the edge of the map. and let him come in and take the objective which triggered the next faze of battle... when this happened i moved my troops down to the edge of the map and around the hill so i was out of sight the entire time of his troops i came in the way he did with his troops initially. now back to the other side of the map where he is advancing... i took all my troops and lined them up along the tree line on the other two objectives... i moved my 8 cannon batteries in the middle of the map so they could support the entire line... i had my snipers in front of them with 600 range to route any charging brigades.... never got any ... from here i sat and waited letting my arty kill a few thousand men while his units sat out there doing nothing... at about 1hour to go in the battle i moved my troops which were in the rear forward pinching his troops kinda... side note there are 6 supply wagons if you move quickly enough with skirmishers you can capture them all.... then i parked my troops in the woods and on the farm house on the objective... his artillery was in the way so i killed them on the way to the objective quickly i had about 10 infantry brigades of 2500 each... he will attempt to charge you if you move in to take the objective too early... then you're screwed had to play this twice to get the timing done right.... but when you do take the objective and he has no cannons left cuz you killed them all on the way in his units sit there and spin not knowing weather to charge you in front or in the back... they get all types of confused... its like the AI is having a short circuit break down.... nwo at this point you can attempt to obliterate his army.... this will cost you a lot of troops not worth it in my opinion... but the xp isn't too bad because you have him surrounded. how ever i did let my artillery get as much XP as they could with the captured supplies which i sent back to the other side via the forest on the left for cover... he does have units around so it is tricky getting them back but if you can they have nice supplies for yoru artillery to use .... also using this strategy i keep my commander very close the entire time for the morale boost i do not want routing units while trying to hold that objective... this battle can be fought and won with very little fighting :D it's nice it allows you to get the army points while boosting your numbers... now his numbers grow as a result but in later battles you can make up the difference! and at antietam you can really kill off his numbers :D the trick again is to out flank him the AI does not follow your troop movements if your unseen you can really position your army on his flanks and often times in front and behind him.... while playing through this legendary tiem i decided to try new ideas because the traditional line up and fight wasn't yielding very good results in terms of preserving the army for the end game... i would always have around 100k to enter washington or richmond and the troops would only be 2 star... so i am trying new ideas and its working amazingly also im not using new recruits hardly ever! costly but i have 1 full core now of 3 stars and im starting gettysburg... i hope this helps you on gaines mills because it's a hard battle and one i liek to avoid and limit casualties as much as posible

      Good to know that this is another battle where the AI mostly breaks if you give up the objectives. In this case I still think the forward defense is the better option since you can mostly break each wave as they come in. 5-7k losses for 20-30k kills should be achievable this way. Checkout Something Compass, Ray Riverss Gaming, or Aetius for examples.
      Are you finding that 100k of 2*s is insufficient for Washington and Richmond? Or just trying to see how large an army you can manage to bring?
      To me 3* infantry really isn't worth the cost it takes to replace their losses. The 3rd set of perks are nearly useless and a 2* unit can consistently be reinforced with recruits for little to no cost while keeping its stats high enough to perform well. I usually push infantry units to 2* and then let them sit somewhere between 1/4 to 1/2 xp unless I have nothing better to do with my money. Artillery and Skirmishers are definitely worth the 3* but getting them there usually isn't to hard and losses are easy to replace with recruits.

      @@pandakraut8594 the troops i end up not being able to beat it on legendary unless i bring more troops... the star3 brigades are working amazingly actually... they are costly but i only use them in main battles and i use them in defensive positions... if i can keep their losses below 400 i end up usually only having to spend maybe 5k on them for full health after the battle due to not using vetrine soldiers to reinforce... if i had more money and guns i would be able to bring about 175k with total man power on my old campaign... this one im hoping to have 5 core with 6 arty each 2 snipers 1cav each and then 15 infantry... and my core that is all 3 star atm i won't use unless i have to because your right they are costly to replace if they take a lot of damage! but if you have the proper cannons and snipers you can rout them before much casualties take place! however in my old campaign i had one sniper unit that's it and only 1 star 3 soo im hoping the added quality of troops and make up will make the difference ... we will see im n gettysburg atm and i think it will be difficult

    It was a short game however a quick decisive victory well done.The Ai however isnt very cooperative I know its in legendary,still I would love to see some of your forces getting low casualties.Its kinda expensive just to refit and rearm your regiments especially the veterans and highier rank units.

    Victory. I'm wondering if 2,000 man brigade size coupled with the high casualties you take might lead to manpower shortages down the road? And your cannons are obsolete. There I said it. Am just throwing it out there. Not just being a critic. I love watching.

    Is there a reason why you always fill your artillery batteries to only 12 guns? Is it in order to have multiple smaller batteries in the fight instead of less much larger batteries? I have always filled my batteries up to 24 guns when I have the opportunity. Im currently in real deep on Legendary as the CSA... Im at Washington with 78,000 men against 111,000... I think I'm in trouble but at least all my men have excellent experience and fabulous weapons. I'm baffled as to how you got to that battle with 120k!

      The reason for the 12 gun limit is that the game applies a damage penalty to the range attack of units as they get larger. Presumably this was intended to apply diminishing returns as units get larger to represent it being harder to keep large units organized. At some point however this system broke and now for certain unit types the penalty overtakes the benefit of adding more men or guns.
      Unless you are using one of the mods that overrides these limits the following are the optimum sizes for damage for the player:
      Artillery: 12-14. The penalty becomes so severe that 24 guns actually does about as much damage as 4.
      Cavalry: No limit, though if you dismount cavalry the skirmisher limit applies.
      Infantry: ~1875. This curve is pretty flat so anything in the 1700-1900 range might as well be the same.
      Skirmishers: ~375. The penalty is very severe for the player as 500 men do about the same damage as 100. 1000 men AI brigades will do nearly as much damage as the 375 would though.
