    Wet Molding A Leather Credit Card Wallet
    Wet molding is a super fun way to work with leather - and you don't need to make a mold! We use found materials to wet mold a leather wallet which holds 20 credit cards. We used Vegetable Tanned Leather from Hermann Oak tannery, as well as simple hand tools from our sponsor Weaver Leather to create a beautiful DIY Credit Card wallet from wet molded leather. Enjoy!

    It is so refreshing to find a channel that i can watch a craftsman work and hear the sounds he makes without annoying elevator music.

    Some while ago, the BBC had a series of programmes on craftspeople at work; no commentary, no music, just the sounds of the craft... this had the same quiet, soothing, hypnotic quality. Thank you for a lovely piece - both the vid & the wallet. Wonderful!

    It must be therapy but I love watching your videos.. My favorite tools are the edger and the hand held little wooden thingy that you use to smooth the edges. You didn't use it but I look forward to see you do! Oh one more thing to be a good leather craftsman you HAVE to have a steady hand !!

    What a fantastic tutorial...and quite meditative with just the sounds of the work. 2 questions:
    1. What brand/kind of glue or cement are you using and what kind of container are you storing it in? Every thing I’ve tried as an airtight glue pot - even the traditional one from Italy - allows the glue to harden.
    2. What are you using to burnish the edges? Sandpaper and water?
    I’ve been working with a combo veg/chrome tanned leather for a few years now and hoping this method will work for that. Like you say, it’ll just depend on how much water the hide will absorb.
    Many thanks for any additional tips you can share!

    I'm intrigued that you guys trim to finished size at the beginning of your project before sewing. I always leave it to almost the last thing. Is there a reason you do that which I am missing? Perhaps it's a confidence thing. I always like to leave margins for error in case my sewing goes awry, my measuring is off, or any number of other things goes wrong. Also I don't like measuring , so I offer things up to their partner for size, then trim at the end so they are identical before burnishing.

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I've always kept very trim borders while I work so that I can use wing dividers to mark an even stitch line that is parallel to the edge of the work - but there are many ways to do all of it, that's the beauty of leatherwork! I'm sure your way works great too :)

I just learned how to stitch with two needles on one thread but it looks like you just had one needle. I’m curious. Very well done project, I’m very impressed!!! • @Corter
      @Corter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just normal tap water - temp doesn't matter much you just don't want it too hot because hot water will shrink leather. that being said if you're looking to make leather armor you want to use hot water or boil your piece to harden it!
