At the beginning of What Else Can I Do, we see a single tear running down Isabela's face. Hardened, Abuela only turns away. At the end, as Abuela is caged, we see Isabela cry again, exactly the same way. A single tear down her cheek. And Abuela finally breaks, and reaches out to her, but it's too late. Isabela is the one turning her back now. It's such a good parallel, and a wonderful visual representation of how Abuela could have prevented this. If she had softened the first time Isabela cried, if she had reached out then instead of now, it wouldn't have been too late. Brilliant song with an incredible animatic, one of my favorites for sure.
Watching people react to Lydia is always a treat. I am literally begging you to watch Anna's and Meg's Villain songs. Her whole villain song series is phenomenal, but those two are my personal favorites.
The interesting thing about the Dolores song is the tiny details you'd miss if you were leaning into the screen and pausing every few seconds. Like when Dolores turns to Mariano after he calls out to her, for a split second, you can see hearts in her eyes; and as she's reaching for him, the expression makes it hard to tell if its from elation of having the final piece of her freedom and fantasy life within her reach, or if she's so drunk on her new power she was about to silence him too. The details are also in the lyrics, 'Can't Think Before You Speak' refering to how everyone knew about the details of her gift, including the drawbacks and how easily it is to harm her, yet they continuously making too loud noises by her; ie Antonio's gift ceremony with the fireworks and cheering. You can even see details in Isabela's song too, like the shot with Isa's statues, the lighting turns the serene smiles into disgusted scowls.
My headcannon is that Mirable is the new Matriarch, hence her lack of powers. The Matriarch bestows gifts they deem appropiate. Alma "gave" gifts that would be useful; healing food, super strength, weather control. When Mirabel tried to touch her door, the title passed to her. So, SHE was the one who gave Antonio his power to speak with animals, not because it was useful, but because he loved them! So, in this new home Mirabel creates, after seeing he struggles of her family, I think she gave them the option to switch off their abilities when they wished. So, Luisa doesn't always have to he strong, Isabella doesn't always have to be perfect, Pepa doesn't always control the weather (which lets her process her emotions healthily), and Dolores could hear some silence. If there's a sequel, I suspect she will at the very least be resentful, if not an outright antagonist. Although people behind the scenes have suggested thay Dolores' room has soundproofing, so...
I highly recommend watching her original song "Seven Seconds to Breakdown" when you get a chance. It's so good. Also, if you loved Isabella's villain song so much, you should def check out MilkyyMelodies Alternate Universe Songs. She did a two parter for Isabella and it is SO good.

Rule the Quiet is by FAR my favourite of Lydia's Villain songs so I'm so glad you've reacted to it! I love both of these. But my favourite out of the two is Dolores’. I can’t even imagine having to hear all those small trivial noises all your life let alone the rumors and gossip about you. The overstimulation would be wild. And I love how throughout the song you can hear the voices of all the people overlapping in a way that would show that. I also love Isabella’s. I just REALLY love the soundscape and overall theming of rule the quiet. It’s funny because that and “afraid of quiet” are two of my favorites from her.
