My fellow powerlifter buddy and I made 4 of these several years ago, from @ 80 to @ 260 lbs. We put some old iron 10 lb plates inside the mold to increase the weight. I used a long 1/2 " wood dowl to ensure the air holes filled in. Also you can get concrete dye and make a couple different color stones. A true full body exercise!
Another fantastic video and helpful video. Thanks for always being so thoughtful and sharing. A cubic foot of concrete typically weighs about 140 pounds (63.5 kg). And don’t forget a rubber donut to hold the ball also helps to make it easier to get underneath so you can get in a healthy position to lift it.
I didn't even know that Atlas stones can be picked up this way, much more efficient. All we can watch and hear from Strongman coaching is arms straight (maybe good with tacky use), but extremely difficult without tacky. Although with the heavier weights standing up from this position is probably not possible, hence why use of tacky comes in so that the stone can be deadlifted. Thankyou for making this great video.
Thanks for the video pat .you are one handy man to have around during this pandemic .im making one now.I already went to pick up my supplies.I'm using an old pony keg that we cut in half for the mold.it will be a weird shape but I'm gonna try it out and see how it goes.
My wife and I Work out separate but I do have fun working out with my 1 and 3 year old. Heavier pushups and using them for front loaded squats is fun and they love it!
Love your videos, but can you please review/edit the how to pick up an atlas stone section? As a strongman competitor as the stones get bigger thats asking for a bicep tear. Straight arms for the pick! Otherwise great info, I've got a mold to use hopefully this week!
point taken! its been a couple years since I have picked one up, and probably should have practiced a bit before we did this, and could still use some practice! and good luck with yours!
Thanks for showing us how to make the Atlas Stone. Couldn't an Atlas Stone be used as a SandBall? I always thought an Atlas Stone looked like a SandBall. Kristi, very great technique with the back squat. Those squats looked very good. Keep up the hard work!
5:33 actually there is a way to avoid that much of a mess, they sell bucket spouts or bucket funnels in the paint department of Home Depot, Lowes, and Menard's, that you can attach to the buckets. 😉
haha noted, that was literally the first time I have picked one up in a couple years. prob should have done a couple warm ups😂 and could still use some practice !
@@patrickoconnell2380 no worries, just love yal and would hate to see an injury occur. I'm sure it was still light too, haha. Keep up the GREAT work you two. Much love.

Pat "What do we got!"
Kristi "The scales not working!"
I think we all have been there before.
Hahahahhahaha
😂 haha I was running out of holding time!
@@patrickoconnell2380 You can definitely hold it longer than me. I don't even know if I could pick it up

Great point! thanks!!
Looking forward to seeing a workout incorporating this new atlas stone!
we will prob wait till after the games, to make sure we keep all of Kristis toes lol but we will def get a workout up with them!

heck ya! love the ingenuity!!

ha! that's awesome! and great starting and exposing them young to exercise just being a normal part of the day!
Great job guys. Will be making one for sure.
nice! super easy little project!
That immediate look to the camera after hopping on the scale, I lost it. Sorry Patrick but that was hilarious
haha I totally agree, had a moment of panic 😂
Awesome! Have y’all ever tried to make bumper plates this way? Cannot find anywhere for reasonable prices.
nope, I don't know exactly how that would go. But they are def hard to find right now!
Ummm roll the stone onto the scale?
yea, I thought the same thing hahahaha
Kristi Eramo I mean seems logical lol
might give it a try, I was worried about the pressure point being so small I would crack the scale !
patrick oconnell put a flat 5 pound weight plate down to distribute the weight.

I'm glad someone else noticed as well. Definitely don't want to see either of them, or anyone for that matter, get injured.

How long is the curing time encased in plastic?
I would error on the side of longer and leave it for about 2 weeks!
A little late to viewing this, but thank you! Entertaining, enjoyable, and educational, E3, love it, and thank you both, as always!!
Thank you!! Thanks for watching!
Not that I wud attempt to do this but enjoyed the video. Great squat depth by the way!
haha thanks for the honesty!!

Thanks! it can be similar, this 170 is a little to heavy but a smaller one you could. just have to be a lot more careful where you drop it!
@@patrickoconnell2380 Oh OK. Thanks for letting me know.
Great video, I just have to try and find a mold now
Great video! Definitely not making a 170lbs. I’ll try 100 lbs.
very good call!!
HAHA yes that sounds like a good plan!
Which is better? Smaller heavier sets or larger lighter sets?
Depends on your goals! I typically always start with larger lighter sets for a few weeks then work to 3s-5s then 1-3s!!
You can put a styrofoam ball (or any ball) inside of it. So it will weight much less but still have the same size to hold.
for sure!
Love it! I want to have a go at using Atlas stones in the future - any issues with cracking when dropped so far?
Build It Up no, not at all and we have others that have lasted for years without issues !!
Find a way to vibrate the stone mold when your first pour it and vibrate the whole thing for a while and it will come out very smooth and no bubbles

Did you use Quickset concrete or a cement mix?
I think he used the quickset concrete!
Squats look good
Thank you!
Love the work and the content
Thanks!
ugh wanted 1st!
Noice . . DIY legit 💪
We LOVE the DIY stuff!!!
Kristi Eramo if I could, I’ll DIY my own gym, but that’s for the next decade.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
a new toy for Kristi?😄👍
I hope not hahaha
Could you not have just put the stone on the scale??
!
Full natty sistah.
She is perfectly tone not too much not too little an still looks like a woman.
Hey Thanks! I appreciate that!
@@Kristi-Eramo-OConnell No problem 😄
i am ngwetting juijimufu vibes from this
I’m not sure what that means
You did a good job making the stone, however your form to lift it was horrendous, haha. Row it to your lap, do not curl it.
haha noted, that was literally the first time I have picked one up in a couple years. prob should have done a couple warm ups😂 and could still use some practice !
He tries to curl everything HAHA :)

This is how you get seriously hurt lifting a stone don't lift like this ppl
