  • When was the last time you saw an Airbus A380 at Kotoka International Airport [ ACC/DGAA].
    On September 29, 2022, British airways A380-841 [ BA9178] made a quick stop over at ACC/DGAA (Accra) from JNB/FAOR (Johannesburg) and later continued to LHR/EGLL (London).

    Rare A380 sight in Accra. Also, good to see BA now flying the A350-1000 regularly to Kotoka, instead of the tired, old , 25-30 year old 777! We pay top dollars in tickets for their flights and they should acknowledge that and treat Ghanaians with respect.

    Why exactly can't the A380s come to Accra regularly, is it because we lack the appropriate gate bridges or gates ? Cause it was able to land and take off so no problem with the runway right.?

    • @flycapt
      @flycapt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do love this question, and I guess you an avgeek😉.
      .
      So with the A380, Kotoka International Airport has all it takes to accomodate it, when it comes to the runway and aerobridges, but rather its the airlines' decision, the patronage of tickets to Accra from any country is gonna help determine the aircraft type they wanna bring, and take note, landing fees and parking fees in Ghana are very expensive. Airlines pay landing fees after every landing their aircraft makes and that depends on the aircraft type, weight, size, number of passengers and others. So all these are taken into consideration...

    *Was it a technical stop?*

    • @flycapt
      @flycapt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A technical stop is most commonly used to refuel the aircraft, make unexpected essential repairs or to respond to some emergency. No traffic is unloaded or loaded during a technical stop. Note that this stop is not a layover. It is a stop for refueling and passengers may or may not be asked to disembark the plane.

      I've wondered for a long time, what do those lady two digits mean? E.g 777-342, a350-944, what are they for?

    • @MM-np4md

      @@intellectualnerd4544 really? 😮 Meaning it's used for different manufacturers if their aircraft are the same length? For example b747-741 and A380-841?

    • @shanaung-thwin9824
      @shanaung-thwin9824 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MM-np4md For Airbus the last two numbers is the engine type. Take the A380 for example: A380-841 vs A380-861
      A380-841s are equipped with the RR Trent 900
      A380-861s are equipped with the Engine Alliance GP7000.
      For Boeing, usually the numbers represent the airline which it operates for. For example, the Boeing 777-300ER
      777-312(ER) for Singapore Airlines
      777-322(ER) for United Airlines
      777-323(ER) for American Airlines.
      Letters can be used too
      777-3B5(ER) Korean Air
      All in all, Airbus’s back few numbers are for the engine manufacturer and Boeing is the airline that flies it. Another interesting fact is for Boeing when the aircraft is retired from the airline it will retain the numbers. For example an ex Singapore Airlines 757-212 was operated for Delta Air Lines but still retained the “757-212” numbers. Usually Delta’s 757s are “757-232 or 332s”. That’s how you can identify aircraft that which are currently flying for an airline but not the original operator.
