  • Emily allows you full, behind the scenes, access to one of her Fine Art concept development shoots, where she works closely with horse trainer Arran to experiment with a variety of concepts and techniques to create fantastic and unique fine Art Equine images.
In this series Emily allows you to come on location with her as she works through and develops new ideas and concepts for her Fine Art Equine portraits. The importance of this type of concept development cannot be understated, going out and shooting your own work is essential to building a strong portfolio, either for building yourself a unique fine art collection or for separating yourself within the market to attract in new clients.
In this first part Emily concentrates on shooting a series of low key images using studio flash. This requires working closely with the trainer to acclimatise the horses to the flash. Then once Arran is happy that the horse is ready he goes through a series of different skills, including Piaff, Spanish walk and Rearing to produce a great series of images.

Why bother with black backdrop when strobes are killing ambient light? Anything else can be done in Lr or whatever.

D700. This an old video? Unusual choice of camera for a professional. Normally its the all singing all dancing d850

Not at all, the professionals who shoot day in day out usually don't care about the newest gear, just reliable stuff that gets it done. I shot 40 equine shoots last year on D700 and D3s !
