I watched but didn’t cry. Although I think it is the best scene ever made, I felt an emptiness watching it
I can relate, right now I am on my way home from having watched it. It felt wrong at first but it probably had to do with how and you relate the last moments with the characters and glimpses into the future.
Same, watched it today and after it finished I felt the same emptiness. However the more I think of it, the more emotional I get. Maybe we need some time for it to settle until it really hits
I felt that way about movies like Synecdoche New York. Especially movies with existential dread and life regrets involving family and loved ones and disappointments. I couldn’t handle that stuff and wasn’t prepared for it.

This scene breaks you. You know she doesn't have any clue about her father.
The worst part is knowing that the entire movie is just her as an adult trying to re-experience the trip and look for the signs, as though there’s anything she can do in retrospect
This movie, this scene, moved me so much and hit me so hard that I can't even finish these 40 seconds.

I have seen this scene all over YT and TT, read the comments about the movie being a masterpiece and I so want to watch it - but I am scared I cannot handle it emotionally.
Just embrace the emotion. The fact that a film can make you cry is testament to the power of film and the team that made it. I double billed my first view with The Quiet Girl. Superb evening of moving pictures.

This movie is going to affect me for a long time. Such an amazing piece of acting and film making
I cried along now, remembering this scene and what I felt every time I watched this movie.
I actually kept it together at the end of th aftersun (mainly cause i sing underpressure on a joyful note), Colman's expression was me at the end of The Whale.
