2:50 in truth the casualization of the Monster Hunter series began essentially instantly with the first handheld version of the game (Monster Hunter Portable / Monster Hunter Freedom) for the PSP.
Best year has to be 2017 hands down. We got Re7,Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Breath of the Wild, Nier Automata, The evil Within 2, Prey, Crash Bandiccot N sane trilogy, Nioh, etc etc The List goes on and on, 2017 is 100% the best year in gaming
Once I've seen the video in my sub box, I wanted to take a bit of a breather before I'll watch it (and I was also really spent) because statements like these (that XXXX year was best gaming year ever or sth) are always... controversial. But now I'm back, let's go. Ah... Drakengard... one of the first true mindfcuks that I've ever experienced by picking up the game (glad to see it here! ...honestly, I forgot it was 2004). And yeah, 3 also has a special thing in my heart. To this day I'm super sad that I've never got to buy the DLCs (even if they were really short and not that great). To be honest, till Bloodborne, FromSoft were always the "armored core guys" for me. As much as I loved Demon's and Dark Souls (what's funny is that the engine used in Demon's Souls was a very heavily modified one from the back then latest Armored Core). I was so happy that they've made a new one! ...even if it kind of... fizzled away. 2000s were really great time for horror games, weren't they? ...to bad that Siren kinda... faded away (even if I wasn't the biggest fan of it, it was pretty good). Oh well, at least Fatal Frame is holding up nicely (and I'm so happy that you can get physical versions of the games in Japan)! ...also, don't know why, but copies of PS2 Fatal Frame games are getting cheaper. ...remaster incoming perhaps? Silent Hill The Room is... sad. Konami forced Team Silent to make it a Silent Hill game and... well, it ended how it ended. Were it original IP, I think it would fare so much better, as the game is good (and perhaps the scariest of them all. ...if you forget about the belching Patients). ...too bad that they scrapped UFO ending very early too! First two MonHuns are ROUGH. I was with the series from the beginning (...though, I skipped the Nintendo games) and I'm really happy with the modern direction actually, as much as I loved the original and PSP games. ...I tried Rise, but changes they've made for hammer disgusted me too much, honestly. Yup, Monster Hunter was a GREAT thing to happen for gaming. It wasn't what the creator originaly had in mind, but it still was bloody awesome and gave us a new genre (...btw. Freedom Wars gets a remake if you're into monster hunting games!). ...why are you hurting me with that pronunciation, Vanser? Come on, THIS-GUY-a is far superior. And yeah, both Phantom Brave and La Pucelle Tactics were really darn good (I'm really hyped for PB: The Lost Hero. ...January is going to be a financial death for me). Overall, I think that NIS were the silent heroes of the PS2 RPG era. It's impressive how much they can do on a shoestring budget. YOU BLEW IT! Fin Fin could make a cameo when you were talking about dolphins! ...now I'm sad (well, life is full of disappointments, but I'm sure you know this). Sometimes I'm kinda regretting that I've never got into GameCube gaming. It's games were really cool and, kind of, one of a kind. GC was ahead of its era IMO. Too bad that Nintendo HATED most of the Europe with passion and gave many countries scraps. Also, controversial opinion, but... I kinda love many of the German Pokemon names. It's cool that different countries had (and still have) different names for Pokemon. Oof. Bloodlines. The initial release was so bad that you couldn't even finish the last part of the game. ...story of its developement was kind of sad too (as with KOTOR2). I agree that Sudeki was surprisingly fun too! I'm the one of the A Wonderful Life defenders (as you know). Is it as good as BTN or FOMT? Nope, obviously not. It was even more bare when it comes to the features, graphics were kind of iffy, there were some REALLY BIZARRE choices (like the amount of days in the month) an going for a more "realistic" experience with having to impregnate cows for them to give milk and such (...and creating hybrid seeds breaking the game's economy). ...but it also had one of the best characters (even if the stories and plotlines could get quite grim and depressing) and seeing your kid actually grow and slowly starting to decide what to do with their lives was lovely. ...and then they released that goddamned PS2 version with horrible loading times. I wondered if you're going to mention The Sims 2! PC version was (and still is) the bomb. I've spent so much time playing this game that it isn't even funny. And they were never even CLOSE to the level of 2 with the sequels. ...I also liked how each console version was its own game (and they all were great, I can't really pick favorites... though DS one is perhaps the most zany). Trackmania is awesome. ...but let's face it, we all spent more time creating stages than actually driving when being kids. ...I challenge you to try to get the platinum trophy in the later versions. The horror. But chasing the perfection is nice (...or just looking up solutions and trying to repeat them). Agreed. While PES3 has a big place in my heart, 4-6 are stuff of legends that will never be beat. Hm... what are your thoughts of Burnout Paradise? ...I was kinda bummed out because of its open structure, but the gameplay was the bomb and it's still the best of its kind (as in... destruction-derby type races). When you dissed the DS line-up I felt offended... but then you quickly fixed it by mentioning Project Rub (which was the only thing that made the line-up good, let's face it, Mario 64 was better and I don't even like it that much) - the fact that Sonic Team made it is bizarre... but then you remember how wild Dreamcast was and everything is right in the world. I was disappointed with Jak 2 and the changes it has made (as I enjoyed the first one really much), but 3 somehow convinced me back. It was just way more polished, and is one of not too many third games in the series that in my opinion are better than part two. I'm not going to say anything about HL2 as from the start I always thought the game was highly overrated (and I enjoyed 1 a lot more). ...but yeah, Steam (even if it was made fun of at first) is a gift. ...even if it practically killed the physical games for the PC. Eh, Doom 3 actually did suck. Or rather... was painfully average. Then again, there was so much expected from that game that it just couldn't end well. Even on low details Far Cry 1 looked AMAZING. And I liked how it actually went wild with the mutants and the whole "island of dr Moreau" vibe later. It's also funny how the game was praised for its AI when it just simply cheated most of the time and hard mode of this game was... not fun at all. But yeah, I miss the old, linear Far Cry. Also, that game was surprisingly goofy when you think about it. UT2004 was a game I bought myself for Christmas... and only played it with bots. Still had a lot of fun. ...then, year or two later I played online and got skillchecked hard and dropped the game, turning to Battlefield 1942 instead. The Creator of Katamari Damacy wanted it to be one-and-done game and was really unhappy when Namco forced him to make another one (and then he quit if I was correct). Actually, if you play We
MGS3... uh... you know, for a long while, in high school it was my favorite MGS game. I was enamoured by its story, the weird gameplay ideas... and then, with each following year, I started to like it less and less and see its flaws. While themes and characters are really good... this is the game that at times really feels more like old spy flicks (and MGS) parody more than MGS itself. It also kind of ruins the character of Big Boss to me? And the mechanics were actually really gimmicky and got irritating really quick. I mean, yeah, hunting for food, picking camos or treating your wounds is fun for the first half of your first playthrough and then... it just starts to annoy you. But there were so many great segments in that game that I still love it to bits (and I always cry at the ending). It's just not as good as MGS1 or 2 (which both had perfect gameplay AND stories). And as for the complaining of Twin Snakes being too over the top... I'm going to say it like this - Solid Snake was a hyper competent veteran soldier but things he has done were... fairly realistic (outside of being able to take tons of lead to the chest or being stomped by a giant mech and live - but these are gameplay things so let's excuse them). He was just a guy who had to deal with some really weird stuff and most of the time he was an underdog. I mean... things during Shadow Moses incident were absolutely bonkers at times). ...original was perfect and they added unnecessary stuff. It's like with classic Star Wars episodes 4-6 remasters - the original vision was perfect and you dilute it with... crap. Rumble Roses games are actually better (gameplay wise) than 90% of the wrestling games. People might hate that fact but it's true. I'll skip the last two games because I already have spent over 1,5 h watching a 21 minute video. Sorry! ...you know, when I started watching it, I was ready to smugly reject the thesis you put in the title, but... you've made me actually think really hard about it? ...I mean, you picked a really, REALLY great list of games. ...I wonder what are the other Best Gaming Years in your opinion... hmmm... can't wait to object to that! (...or agree, who knows) Other great games from that year: Dragon Quest VIII (which was HUGE), Ace Combat 5 (...which was decent), GRAN TURISMO 4 (the best game from the series), Sid Meier's Pirates! (which, while its just a remake, it's outstanding), Mega Man Zero 3 (the best one), Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, Red Dead Revolver. There was also Armored Core Nexus but it was just pretty okay. Overall... It was worth a watch and writing another novel. As always, it's fun to get to know you better thanks to your game opinions and crazy stories. Gud job. I ACTUALLY BROKE THE COMMENT WORD LIMIT! (by 820 letters)
@@Hodyna The title of best is always controversial kinda but there's a bunch of years where nobody could say anything against if someone considers them the best like 2004, 2007 or 2017 (if you were a Switch owner at that point). At least to me! Something like... 2014 would be controversial. I still didn't get them either... but luckily you can still get them!
