Update: forgot to show one thing while setting up the template. Make sure to connect it to YOUR STATS so that each entry is counted correctly. You can also always reference the blog post for fully up-to-date information ☺
Thank you so much for the detailed walkthrough. I was able to watch you and create my own tracker with buttons and performance stats. I created 10 habits, so you can imagine the number of properties that I had to create. No worries, between your template and your video, I was able to get exactly what I needed. Thanks again!
Thank you very much Matthias! I wanted to built it with your video and after several hours I made it finally…..🎉 I’ve learned so much building it. As I was stocked for a moment, I emailed Matthias and he immediately answered!🤩🥳and solved my problem! Awesome. Thank you very much. Now I don’t have any time left to perform my habits🤪
This video is so good and I want everyone to see this! I only started to use Notion 2 hours ago, and your video just helped me out perfectly. It is so easy to understand even for someone who don't have any programming foundation and whose native langauge is not English just like me. This video also give me more confidence to better learn about Notion, it seems to be a very strong tool to help me organize my life (Notion should really pay you for this! lol). Thank you again!

15:03 in this section, showing "overall" percentage, if I am using a target of 7 days per week for the habit, then if I check one day's habit as complete, the Overall display percentage is something like 14.000000000000002%. However if my target is 5 days per week, and I check one instance of the habit as completed, then it's a nice neat 20% for the overall percentage. While this makes mathematical sense obviously, is there a way to reformat this 14.000000000000002% number so that it is rounded into a whole number? I am about to start learning more about formulats, but would love your help if you can Matthias! 🙏🏼 Hope that this makes sense, and that any answer you can give may also help a future viewer of this great tutorial!
Yes! You can use the round() formula to round a number ☺️ now with a %, you wanna first multiply it with 100, then round and then divide by 100 to get the desired result So it would be round(PROPERTY*100)/100
Great vid, also a great way to introduce notion's funtion for beginner. The trick to turn date into text is crazy, wondering who found this trick first.
The template is great, thanks so much for your work. Also the blog is very helpful. One idea to make the blog even better would be to add a super quick checklist with steps you need to do when adding new habits (super brief bullet points like 1. add new property in DB habits, 2) duplicate properties XYZ on DB stats, 3) adjust stats box by doing abc, etc.). Also maybe worth adding a link to this video to the blog, unless I'm being blind :-) And thanks again, keep going, and congrats on the success you've been having recently!
Hi Matthias, I have a little trouble setting up the Display. For example: Display: Rise this Week. If I edit the formula just the way you show me, it gives me the following message: "Argument of type text does not satisfy function concat". Does this have to do with the updated version of formulas? If so, what is the (new) correct way to write the formula for setting up a display?
Yes indeed, they changed that with the update - but I recorded a different tutorial that explains how to set up these displays now. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/7g6eYqyEp0w/w-d-xo.html
Hello, I absolutelly love all your tutorials, so far I manage to do all the page but at the end when I test it and click on the button for a habit it marks as done today yesterday and something else not only today even tough i followed all your steps, can you please help me
Great tutorial! Question, I currently have a statistics database creating a daily recurring template titled "Stats @Today". I have another database that has a template to add pages with a click of a button. In the settings of the button, I have set each page to relate back to "Stats @Today". However, it doesn't work. By tomorrow, after clicking the button it will add to "Stats @Yesterday" instead. How do I make it dynamic and not fixed to one particular day?
You can add a button to either your today or stats @ today page that - upon clicking - connects “this page” (dynamic variable) to the Today entry of the other database ☺️👍🏻 Important thing is that the button is in the body of one of the two pages for this to work 💪🏻
Hello, I have a question. If you create a template for an existing database, you change the date property into text and puts it again as a date field, what will happen to the already existing dates in the database ? Will they disappear or will they reappear as they were ? Thank you !
Matthias, thanks again for your awesome tutorial! Can you explain the Overall % score a bit more. You mention the formula will always show you your progress relative to both how many days have passed and what your weekly target is. I entered a week's worth of rows in your template and checked off 100% of a habit based on the weekly target. The Overall Performance is showing 88%. Is this because it calculating based on the calendar year? I would like to see that whenever I start adding entries, if I am hitting targets each week, I am performing at 100%. What am I missing?
I think I discovered what is happening. In the backend, the Days column was counting an additional day more the number of rows/days in the Habits DB because it was including the database template page as a day. When I deleted the template page, the Overall % made sense. Is there another workaround to show the right calculation here, we will always show we are behind if the template is being included.
The workaround I found was to leave the template with the title @Today but remove the link to My Stats. I created a button to link My Stats when a page in the My Habits DB has "@Today" and it added it successfully.
Ah yeah good catch - this is quite an annoying bug with Notion 😅 your workaround is great! The alternative would be to go into the formula and adjust the counted habits by +1 to account for the template ☺️ Yours is the more precise way though 💪🏻
Monthly view for the habits? You can just switch the database view to a calendar 💪🏻 check out my full database tutorial to learn how: Notion Databases: Everything you ever need to know II Full Notion Tutorial for Beginners Part 4 th-cam.com/video/jtwaOY0Cw98/w-d-xo.html
Hi Matthias, thank you so much for this video! I've seen several and yours is the only one I've been able to follow! Quick question, if I want to have different trackers - let's say Self care Tracker, Daily House Chores Tracker, and Work Daily Musts - should I create 3 different databases for this? ultimately I want to have a "daily entry" on my dashboard for all of the daily things I want to accomplish. Not sure if this makes any sense but I wanted to give it a try :)
That really depends on your preferences ☺️ you can have them all in one (and add a type property to sometimes filter for them) or separate them. I tend to always go for the option of fewer databases - that way, you have all information together and your analytics are more precise ☺️
Hi the repeat template daily doesn't work. I tested it on your template after I made mine and it's the same. I have other simpler databases which repeat template works but with this. It doesn't make a new entry at midnight. Also When you link My Stats in the Default Template. It will add the @Today blank default template to the My Stats DB plus today's created @Today entry. So you alway have 2 @Today entries which messed up the calculations due to 1 the Template entry. No need to link the My Stats in the template it will auto be linked when @Today is created and not causing a calculation error. (Hope this makes sense)
Ah yes, good catch with the linking point ☺️ Weird thought with the repeat part - what exactly is the issue? No new entry for you at all? Have you tried manually re-adding it to the template? 🤔
@Matthias Frank yeah. I tried removing the repeat and adding it again. I googled and read that databases with relationships have a problem with repeat.
Same for me, the template won't repeat automatically though recurring templates in other databases never have issues, will try to remove the My Stats link and see if that works 🤔
When linking the template to my stats, it always appears and counts an extra day that has not occurred. My solution for this is making the total days rollup only count the pages linked with Date not empty :)
Ah yeah that’s a great workaround! I forgot about a bug where Notion counts a database template too for a roll-up (really annoying), that’s where the +1 comes from 😅
