My problem is that I'm a perfectionist, sooooo, I'm never satisfied and always poking and probing at the nails. THIS is what slows me down, its horrible! I'm ALWAYS finding fault in my nails and never satisfied with them, even though others think they're beautiful and perfect. I have a training hand, but those darn click on nails ALWAYS pop off when I file, its soooo frustrating!! I too am an "organized" person. I hate when I'm in the middle of nails and can't find something. I just bought myself the new Light Elegance efile, and you're right, it sped up my service. Excellent, excellent, excellent video Talia, thank you sooooo much for all the wonderful tips!
Not putting my head down is my biggest issue slowing me down ! I'm a stay at home mom and I get so excited to talk to an adult I get carried away chatting and I'm always wondering where the time went 😂 Your previous organization videos helped me SO MUCH I can't wait to see what other amazing ideas you have ❤️
Very helpful, Talia. I think the keep looking down tip is an epiphany we each reach at different stages of our careers. This simple reminder is so crucial and most of us, trying to be polite, don't think of it on our own. Thanks again for sharing!
I got myself an efile shortly after I finished my nail tech course but I was so scared to use it on clients at first. I practiced on myself. It still took so long until I decided to turn it up to what you recommended 3/4 speed and presto. What a difference. Thank you for the tips. Love your channel. On a side note, I live in Newfoundland and we have next to no access for additional training.
The efile tip is soooo true! Getting bulk down when you know how to file properly is soooo much faster! The tip I always used to give girls when I was teaching was to use less product. We found trainees always think hiding things with more acrylic will be fine but most likely you can file a lot of things out, but hiding them and applying more acrylic just means more filing and more time :) so less is less hahaha
I have been a nail tech for 22 years. But for the last 10 years I have been working in a natural only holistic spa. So I recently as of yesterday started working at a regular hair salon with my own nail room. I did my first full set the same way I have for decades but this time it took me 4 and a half hours! Plus I wasn’t happy with them. My client was so that’s good but those little imperfections haunt me for days. I just ordered one of those silicone hands to practice on so I can work off all the rust!
Great Tips. Love every point you gave. I've actually just started using my efile in my finish filing recently and it cut my final hand filling time down in half. I don't know why I didn't do bulk with my efile from the start.
bravo. as a client I don't WANT to spend 3 hours at the salon. even for perfect nails. there's a balance. after all, I'm coming back in 2 weeks for something new anyway. great nails aren't necessarily perfect nails. however...im now doing my own as I haven't found a great tech after moving. the shape is SO important and it seems that salons here just work until the hour is up, then slap on some top coat and give you the bill. after practicing for 2 months I FINALLY have my first great set!
Just ordered a new efile! I think mine is just dying because it is taking me a hour to file down & prep the nails. Plus it's heavy. Thanks for the tips! Love it!!!
Great tips! What vacuum system do you have? I end up with a lot dust at the end of the day...even tho I have a vent in my table it really does nothing.
I have a decent enough file but I think it's the lack of quality bits that's holding me up! I saw you like the Atwood tornado to reduce bulk. I'll have to get my mitts on it one day
Erin Romero todacUSA has some fairly affordable quality bits. The more you buy the cheaper they are. They arent as good as my Kupa bits however they are still great.
I sometimes run into problems with product removal 😣 we are only allowed to do soak offs in the salon I work at and clients lie all the time about what products are on their hands because it’s an extra charge to remove it.
Do you include cleaning up your station after your client as part of the client time or do you schedule liken 10 and 12.30 so that you have half an hour to clean up
Karen Kurby I clean as I go, so while my client is curing I put away. Then I do the big put away at the very end while the top gloss is curing. I typically have a few extra minutes to clean up after every client. I also have a bunch of different implements so I can do a big clean of those at the end of the day
Well put together!!! I'm not someone that needs to speed up services as I am 1 hour to 1:20 max but I think this video will help a ton of people starting out in this industry. I know it sure would have for me when I started in 2010! So well done!
where is a good source to find additional training, I am just about certified and i get down on myself because i wonder if i'll ever get faster - with that said i am nervous to use my e-file. Where would i find sources for that training? I am in Edmonton, Alberta.
Most nail supply stores offer training. Your educator who taught you probably does one on ones or additional training. Check out Impact Salon, they are in Stony Plain Alberta, or Purple Beauty in Edmonton.
As a full-time nail technician, I need A LOT of help managing my time bc I need to finish quickly so I can polish bc I polish for 10 minutes both feet. I need to cut, file, buff, and dry faster. I don't get to do a lot of clients :(
Great tips! Thank you for taking the time to creat and share this video! With only a few clients, I need to get working more on my trainer hand and start timing.. and when I can afford it, more classes!!!
couldn't have said it better myself! i agree, seeking additional training is so so important, it really does make a huge difference! another thing that's huge for me is staying hydrated and giving yourself time to eat between clients to prevent your hands from getting too shaky!
I accepted my first job at a salon 3 weeks ago. Last week I started doing pedicures as a trainee. They are doing a great job in training. I have developed a routine. However, I still run over time. I believe the problem is polishing; specifically cleaning up when I get polish on the skin. Those toes can be so tiny. I slow down applying the polish, so I won't get any on the skin. Sometimes the polish is thick and while others are a smooth consistency. I am organized, I have a routine, some customers I do talk too much, I have reduced the time for the scrub and massage, therefore, I think the problem is application and cleaning up polish. Suggestions?
If some Polish is thick, it is because it needs to be replaced or add Polish Thinner to it. If it’s too thick , you will spend more time with it and it will not wear as well for the client. If you do not have the proper thinner or are to unsure how to use it, have your client select another color or find one similar to it for her. If your salon is supplying your products, pull that thick Polish and have the owner/manager replace it. I would only use thinner once in the polish. After that it may throw off the chemical makeup and also not wear as well. When it became thick again, I would thin it and give to the client for touch ups.
@@gbhill2495 actually this an old post. I quit that salon due to the lack if quality products, quality training and too many errors in sanitary precautions. I have since accepted a position in a high end salon that has an amazing training program. I am ashamed at the inferior pedicures I have given during my stay at that previous salon.
Check out Amy Becker and Real World Nails TH-cam channels those ladies have great advice and tips n tricks for working with gel nails. Gel is much easier to file and after you master them you will be so much faster with gel than acrylic. It just takes practice, practice, practice!

Me too. But now I watch YN's Tracy's videos and she always says don't think too much about it.
Karyn Nash Collins I do the same ☹️
Ditto I need 2 stop myself I am guilty of this also
I’m a perfectionist as well I have friends tell me “jojo it looks fine , move on …. It’s not gonna get anymore perfect. Me filing “yes it is!!!!!”
I feel so seen with this comment 😭💗

🙋♀️ Me too
I'm putting my head down more :) It's hard, but I'm getting used to not talking so much :)
Thank you Talia! I'm a new nail tech so these tips are really helpful! xxx

Hi! Thank you so much for the tips! How long do you think removing dip powder and applying a whole new color should take approximately?

I think I'm the worst🤦♀️ I spend almost 6 hours on one Client and this makes me feel bad😭😭😭
I feel your pain I took 8 hours once and almost got cussed out 😭😭
Your not alone 🙇♀️🤦♀️💯
I take really long doing pedicures and I don't do many clients as my co-workers some days :(

Great tips Mrs. Talia and you hit all the key points luv thanks for sharing 💅💕💕💕
Thanks Talia where did you get your brush holder?
Great tips! What vacuum system do you have? I end up with a lot dust at the end of the day...even tho I have a vent in my table it really does nothing.

Erin Kinney I use zebra bands to debulk 😊
Talia's Nail Tales so do I but I noticed it still took me too long to debulk and prep. Like you, my first set after the boot camp took me 3 hours!
