1. Clients come and go. 2. You won't learn everything you need to learn in a nail course. It's basic. 3. It takes times. Growing clientele, business, work. 4. It is expensive. Nail table, E-files, lamps, etc. 5. Business knowledge/background is important
For me it would be ESTABLISHING HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO MAKE PER HOUR AFTER EXPENSES OUT ! Something I did not think about at first. Had my prices pretty low and then I was like ... yikes. Especially since I had another job, I didn’t expect running up short because I always had that extra income. The day I based myself solely on nails I realized why the other nails techs were charging more. So take out a pen and piece of paper and do your maths !! Also helps looking at prices around your area. If you try to be the lowest, you will get the lowest quality of customers. Secondly, RULES. Honestly I never gave though to making rules. You expect everyone to be sensible and have a normal understanding of boundaries. NOPE ! I am home based, had people asking me if they could bring their dog, their newborn, 200000 friends and even if the person they brought with them could sleep on my living room couch (not the same room as my nail room). The thing is that if they ask you right on the spot, it can get awkward. At least if you sent out a post on social media, it warns people! Third, not give some clients “special treatment” when it comes to prices just because you get along well or she lets you do your thing. Most of these people who accept to be charged less or not have their extras charged to them each time will take your kindness for granted in the end. And trust me.. when comes time to boost prices, they are often first to complain ! Now i’m not talking about best friend/family. And lastly... TURN IT OFF. Okay don’t really turn your phone off. But on your days off or past a certain times of day (example 7/8pm), let the messages go. As a nail tech you will always have calls/texts. It never stops really. Don’t feel bad if you don’t answer Stacy within the hour about her next nail appointment in 3 weeks. If clients get all “???” over text, tell them that on your nights/days off, you don’t work and will answer any questions when you start back. As simple as that. People not in the industry will not always think about your off time, you have to think about it though! In the longrun, if you don’t separate your professional life and personal life... you will go nuts and want to throw your phone in the wall ! Oh and one last thing : have fun and have your customers feel comfortable with you. Days go by in a blast if you can have nice conversations and do what you love ❤️
I wish I would have known that it’s most definitely not a 9-5! It’s literally your life. All day, every day! Clients text and message you no matter the time, or if it’s a holiday, if you’re sick, closed etc. You can’t turn it off lol
you quite literally CAN turn it off (your phone) and respond when it works for you. I don't believe in killing yourself over any business. DO still have a life and some peace. People, if they LOVE your work Will wait for your response.
What I learned in my first year as a licensed tech is that you definitely discover who your supportive peers are. You also will learn that you won't fit in in every salon or spa. The third time was the charm for me. I tried two salons before I finally landed in my spa and I am glad I was able to see both dynamics. Also! Even though you are new and you still have a lot to learn, DO NOT LET PEOPLE USE YOU. You are licensed just like they are. Unless you are on hourly pay, DO NOT do busy work for the salon you are at. Unless that means cleaning up after yourself. I was strictly commission at my first place and she had me doing hourly work that I was not being paid for. Don't do that. Lol. At the end of the day, though, I would do it all over again if I had to. I love what I do. I love my regular clients. I love hearing about how people loved my work that they wore. I love getting to know new people and building bonds with them. It is a job like no other. That's for sure.
I agree with you! I would only add one other thing: You need to love doing nails and have faith in yourself. You will doubt yourself for sure, keep going anyway. ❤️❤️❤️ I was doubting myself one day, and I had someone say to me: you will make it, you will make it because you want it, and you will find your nitch in this industry. I am forever grateful. Love you and your Mom!
I totally get you on the first point you made. I used to go to a nail tech and I loved the nails but I couldn't afford them anymore so I stopped going. I hope they didn't take it personally... now I'm trying to do my own nails by practicing with gel haha
You are absolutely right. Everyone who thinks they should become a nail tech should see this video :) in the beginning it is a very luxurious hobby rather than a business :)
I'm just in the beginning of my career as a nailtech and I found this video EXTREMELY helpful!! I'm a very sensitive person and also a people pleaser so I've been struggeling with clients that don't come back, ALOT!! Even to the point of crying (I do cry very easily, that's how I let things go and move on 😉). It never crossed my mind all those reasons you pointed out why they didn't re-schedule (spelled correct?) and at this time in my life this video certainly saved my career! Yes, I was about to give up (because of many other reasons too, not just this). So thankyouthankyouTHANKYOU!! LOVE YOU 😍💖💖💖 Happy Easter, all nail-addicts out there 🥚🐣🐤
Paula Aalto I know some ppl that only go to a tech to get nails put on then fill them themselves a couple of time then take them off. I'm like Whattttt
+LifeofBeauty K Ummmm, they ARE paying your bills! Like, literally! No disrespect, friend. But the service industry is like the only place where being a people-pleaser is like the main criteria to do well. & the more you care what they think, the better job you'll do, thus growing you clientele, who pays your bills. The problematic customer service workers are the ones who don't give a ____ about the customers. This career is based 100% on what ppl think of you & your work, & if it's consistently negative feedback, then maybe you're in the wrong occupation. ...but I got what u meant tho. I too love RP. "Water off a ducks back" (a la Jinx Monsoon) wlda been a better fit, maybe. Lol. Again, no disrespect, friend.
Awesome video Talia! I’ve been doing nails for a long time...this video is ON POINT! I also taught a manicuring course at one of the beauty schools out here in California. When I first started out in the nail industry out here I noticed that proper sanitation was a HUGE problem at a lot of the shops offering nail services. I educated my new clients on sanitation and challenged them to pay attention to certain procedures if and when they ever went to someone else. Guess what? They would come back to me with what I think are horror stories in the nail tech industry. This is just one important reason how I kept a fuller more steady client base. Just thought I would throw that in there for anyone who is just starting out or dealing with too many clients being fickle. You’re such a pleasure to listen to! Thanks again! Love your videos girl ❤️
Totally agree.... So many techs out there who strive to save the 50cents for anew file for individual clients.... :) or do not desinfect the hands at all... Or do not wear gloves....
I'm a newer tech and I think you hit the jackpot on all of your points you made. I'm so grateful that you share all these experiences and thoughts. It shows how humble you are to put out what your struggles were. I'm sure a lot of new techs get discouraged because like you said in basic nail training you just learn how to do nails. I thank you for putting this all out there, I definitely find myself going through your videos when I am needing help with something.
Thank you for your video! I am definitely subscribing. I start my nail tech course in a few weeks. I am excited because I love nails! But also nervous when it comes to building clientele, conducting great business, and overall not getting discouraged. My mother in law owns a hair salon but she is expanding her salon to accommodate nail techs, so she is super excited to begin working with me!
Wish part of my basic courses did troubleshooting so when you came across problems your confidence wasn’t completely knocked down. Everything you said was bang on point!!
I’m glad i went for salon Management and then i went to study NailArt. It makes a huge difference knowing the difference in doing nails and operating a nail business. It is an investment in order to get anything out of it.
Sooooo true!!! Finished school last October and never even realized what is all required to buy after. Even school.. I thought I’d have more knowledge but I still find myself struggling with the C curve and shape. It’s worth it all for sure cause I LOVE the nail industry!! Definitely looking into some more classes.
Can you do a video about beginner products? Maybe those that you can get before becoming licensed but that are still good quality for you to practice with.
Your so right School teaches you the basics after that you’re on your own I’ve got my license years ago and haven’t had any time to work on it because I’ve been doing other things and every time I try to go back something comes up but it does take money effort time precious time but I do love it and I hope to be back at it One day again for now I just practice every time I have a chance 😊❤️thanks for sharing
I am so HAPPY I stumbled upon this video. I'm about to start classes in June for nail tech and I knew it wasn't going to be easy to start, but hearing someone share words of wisdom like this - free and honest - helps a lot! I had been wondering what I would do once class was done, salon or open my own. Totally helped me determine which would be the best course for me over the next year. Thank you!
I really enjoyed this video. I'm still new to the industry and hearing what you have to say was so great for me. I've done alot of the things you said and it's helped alot. Taking more classes was great. I really felt one was a blessing to hear cause I did take it personally sometime but now I won't. No one ever said that before now! Eye opener your video was.
Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I found it helpful as a new nail tech myself. I am slowly building up the products I have. I want to make sure I have enough to start with so I dont have a client come and ask for something basic and not have it. I love the idea of taking a bussiness class or two! I think it's easy to forget that it needs to be run just like any other bussiness. Knowing what your profits and overhead costs are, things like that. By the way I'm knew to your channel and love it!
Hi I’m 12 years old going on 13 thank you so much I subscribed because I really want to be a nail tech my mom dad and grandma are gonna invest in me and you are such help to have more knowledge on what I’m going into.
Lots of great advice Talia!! You hit on very important points!! I’ve been in the nail business for almost 30 years and I’ve seen a lot of changes with this business but you hit it right on the head!!
I love this woman and for her to keep it real and the struggle cause im goin thru the same season and also my family dont think its a real business and they didmt give up on me but its more looking to see what will I make out of this, especailly when i keep investing more than my income...sad truth
Thanks for sharing!! The more I listen to you guys “The Pros” the more I’m starting to feel comfortable about moving into the nail industry. For over a year I’ve save enough money to cover my bills (1yr worth) and a little bit on the side to cover initial supplies. Every day I ask my self; Is it enough? I will be starting nail school at the end of May and I’ll be working part time to cover the tuition, now I think I’ll continue to work part time until my client roster is full. Thanks for the advise. I’m super nervous and anxious to start on a new career.
Loving all your videos,! I’m almost finished my year long course in Australia to become a nail tech.... love how informative you are and also loooooveeeee your organisation
I 100% agree with everything you said! Great video and very informative! I definitely agree about the investment and "basic" part of what you mentioned! Would you ever consider doing more "business" type videos? Another thing I'd like to add to this list would be researching your area. What are the regulations to setting up at home? Are there salons there hiring? What's the clientele demographic? How saturated is the area in nail techs (this may make it easier/harder to get clients). Definitely a TON of research to be had! Also, research different schools! Don't just pick the cheapest one. Reach out to past students, meet with the instructors before hand, visit the school, those are all things I wish I would have done before choosing!
Zena Does Nails I agree I went with a cheaper place and I wish I had have gone with another place. It was way to basic. I've taken a few classes since that have helped. I enjoyed this video.
Thank you for letting me know this I’ve been doing nails for four years and I’m just starting to my own business and it’s kind a hard but I know I get it together I’m not giving up I love what I do
i have been in the nail bus for close to 30 years, and everything you are touching on is spot on. school doesn't teach how to do great nails that is up to you and further education. when i started out e-files were taboo, only discount salons used them and they had a very bad rap. nail art wasn't to popular either. So definitely the cost of business is much more these days. love what i do but it certainly not an easy business it really takes having back up support and patients, and a lot of sitting around when building a clientele.
Hi Talia, thanks to you nd other youtubers, I found a passion I didn' know I had... NAIL!!! And I have to thank you.. encapsulating your designs.. rocks!!!!
I totally agree I have recently become a nail tech ( 1yr 6 month) and luckily I had a small business before and did my research. It isn’t something you can make a quick buck from and you have to have passion to constantly educate yourself and your clients. I love my job as a tech and as they say ‘ find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’
You couldn't have put it any better Talia .... Excellent info 👍 and so so true but so worth it... The satisfaction I get out of my job as a nail tech is more than I ever anticipated ...TFS Gorgeous 😘xox
Sharon Buchanan I'm still in school... can you tell me what you like best about being a tech? I'm hoping make this ft in about 3 years. Would love your advice.🙂
Hi there what a great video and it was done very positively. I also have comments that I would like to share. I've been a nail tech for 14 years and here are some things that I wished I knew.... The toxic exposure of chemicals, very harmful on the health of a nail tech no matter what precautions are put in place...eventually you will have problems with your respiratory, skin or fertility! The emotional burden of listening to the woes complaints and struggles of other people! After time hearing the same stories from the same people wears on you. The misuse of TIME! Clients not respecting your time equates to lost revenue and even if you put policies in place to stop this it's still creates issues! Every client has a 'special' reason why they didn't make their appointment. Lastly and perhaps the most important thing I wish I knew was the strain on my body that this career would take, awkwardly leaning and weird positions holding on to people's fingers with a heavy electric file in your other hand filing and people gripping your hands so hard when you're working on them it really hurts our hands!
Hi doll , what a great topic! There is such a lack of business knowledge in this industry, can you elaborate on more of your" NEED TO KNOW BUSINESS " BASICS? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR GREAT EXPERIENCE IN THE NAIL WORLD!
Hi Talia! I love this video! I’m also a certified nail tech of 2 years now and I agree with everything you said! I value that as a nail tech I want to expand my knowledge and keep learning and taking extra classes! Yes it’s expensive but in the end I want to know and do the best to my ability! I would say for me I would have liked to know more and understand more of the business building aspect of it first! Because yes it does take a year to build up a clientele! Also the competition with other nail techs in your area is a bit of a shocker also. I watch all your videos and you are one of my biggest nail role models!
Getting different views from different backgrounds of nail techs is definitely a plus and everyone will experience their journey differently and be more protected in certain areas and more comfortable with starting nail techniques thank you so much for sharing your experiences in your journey into your business God bless always forever PS I am a 42-year-old that has autoimmune disease but that does not stop me from achieving and reaching goals I might not be the best on certain days or hours but what’s good about running your own business whether it be make up which I’m doing now the nail thing I wanted to get back into and I’ve done it for a long time so I have a lot of things down already but pacing myself is definitely a must and I have lots I already are wanting to line up to you help them through this season I told him I’m not really getting fully started yet but I will definitely let them know immediately when I do along time ago when I was young unfortunately I went through a bad time with my parents then my aunt took me in after the system was really harsh on me as a child then from there the relative trust of my mother has changed but Truly in my heart I knew that she didn’t.But I wasn’t going to tell my aunt that she was the first time mother at the time and she took on two teenage twins and that’s a lot and even at that age I knew that was a lot for her at the time and I said you know what giving somebody a chance and after all it is my mother but I knew the person she was with was Shady and I was really cautious in a little bit afraid I kind of had it in stink right away that something wasn’t right about this man and I was right on about it let’s say for many of years I got raped and molested etc. I’m not gonna go into the details but pretty much all alone having to take care of myself after a teacher turned him in after I just totally broke down after all those years and my mother basically allowed him to break his restraining order and move back and when I spent the night at a friends house so at the time the system is broke it’s still kind of is when it comes to sexual offenders but that’s not the point I’m trying to make but so I was on my own for a long time I had to make money and not the best circumstances but I learned a lot way faster than I would if I wasDo you like move out of the house when I was like maybe early 20s like most to you now some even stay longer and have big support system I have a big support system but they were all in a different state and at the time no money no place to go thank God for friends because if it wasn’t for that in the Lord above and my family values that were instilled in me from them up north especially my grandmother and great grandmother I probably would’ve went and more downhill and I did Wayback then I kind of went off the path a little bit becauseParent basically repeated itself because of the person that damaged me mentally and sexually made me feel like I wasn’t worth anything which I knew I was but at the time we’re being young and having to truly make it on my own so long story short I got through that all build a life for myself a lot of people loved how I did hair so I had tons of people referring other friends of theirs to me to do their hair which was really funny because I didn’t think I did that good of a job but that was really cool and a confidence boosterThen from there I busted my butt work over for jobs got my own place which in hindsight I was paying way too much for lot rent plus what I was living then I could’ve had a house and run it out a house for a while I was paying but I was way younger back then and even accomplishing that was a big deal so moving forward I move back up north got a job with the school system best job I ever had until I got struck down by rare rare illness then had major life-threatening surgery for that that saved my life then got struck down with autoimmune disease but no matter what comes at me I have such a amazing support systemAnd my family up here in Maryland and I’ve been truly blessed they truly try to reach out but have to time I turn on the way because I believe that the values that my grandparents and my great grandmother and still do me in the old fashion values or just built in to me along with their guidance thank you for listening to me rant on God bless always and forever and thank you again for sharing your journey with us all
It took me a longer time than I would like to admit to learn I didn’t have to use only the brand I trained with. I get now that courses train to sell there product specifically but I was scared to try other things because like you said professional products are expensive !!!!!
Excellent video! Mirrors many of my thoughts. I’m a huge advocate of education. I suggest people put aside a learning budget and invest in a good nail event at least once/year. It helps to network with other techs too. I’d also talk about joining professional Nail sites. These forums provide a safe space to ask questions, learn from those with more experience and provides a platform to share your work.
Totally agree! It's scary how many people in all types of small businesses have no idea on what their expenses are compared to what they bring in and unfortunately that is why a lot don't succeed. I've always said that I am a business woman first and an esthetician second cause there is no way to be one without the other!
Hi Talia I absolutely love your videos and im glad to be hearing your experience in the industry and im a self taught nail enthusiast looking to going to school in december and I have to agree on all your points and especially the money side..... I just do mine and my friends and learn from you and few other techs on TH-cam and in the 10 months ive been going I agree it is expensive but if its your passion its well worth the investment and I wanna thank you personally for giving me the courage to not give up :) you as well as some others are absolutely amazing techs my local nail salon kinda discouraged me but the tech I used to go to loves my progress in all aspects of building and shaping and pushes me to grow my knowledge and eventually go to school when I can afford it
Please please please do a video about the difference between gel and acrylic. So many nail salons near me try do use acrylic with gel topcoat or polish and charge 50$+ for it. I just got over charged yesterday and I really think people need to know. Thank you & I love your videos ❤️💕
I wish I'd of known to try other brands. I stuck with the same company I trained with as the are known as "the best" took me 7 years to finally try a different acrylic brand and my god I kick myself daily that I didn't do it sooner!! Just because a brand is huge and they tell you they are the best doesn't mean it's true at all. My nails have improved tremendously since I left that brand completely. Love this video and I agree with everything you said! X
Ive actually been deeply thinking of going into the nail industry but im not sure if i can do it... So thank you for giving me more details before o make my final decision
I totally agree about having some business sense. There are classes at a lot of nail shows that offer business classes directly related to nail techs. I’m planning on taking one once I am licensed. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to work from home per my state board of cosmetology, but I think your advice applies to booth renting nail techs as well. I noticed a lot of my classmates who graduated went straight to booth renting because working commission kinda sucks lol
this video is amazing! so many times have i felt so discouraged and wanted to quit because some clients didnt come back and it was taking a while to build a clientele
Great video!! Thank you so much for this.. Wish I had seen this when I was training...lol.. Mind you I am still a "newbie" and struggling to get clientele,.. hard in an itty-bitty town with many other techs.. (never thought about that issue when I decided to do my training!) So now I'm just working on trying to get as much extra training I can, which will help entice clients my way. Hugs to you dear friend, and thank you again for taking the time to do all these videos!
I’m graduating soon. This is very helpful information. Thank you so much! I need to keep my full time job too but I’m wondering if you could do a part time after work at 5pm-close ? It seems impossible. Please advise.
I'm starting school this year in July I have a full time job that I love but nails have always been my passion. So I finally decided to go for it. I have a baby she's going to be 2 next month. My question is how do you juggle being a mom, making videos, and doing nails? I mean that's like 4 full time jobs!
Hi Talia! I hear you girl. I took my nail course 3 years ago because I loved all things related to nails and also was planning to move to another country and wanted or had the idea of creating a business as soon as I arrived in Ireland and then I moved and I found a job as a nail technician in a saloon and I worked there for almost 2 years and let me tell you, I hated it! I still am obsessed with nails and love all the products and looks but I don't know why now I feel I don't want to go back to that, maybe I just hated to follow the saloon rules and should try to go all solo with my thing now that I am kind of established in the country. What advice could you give me in this matter? Thank you in advance. Love your videos.
agrees quality products ... some things embellishments you can get away with on ebay and other places .... i think that forgetting everything you learned in nail school is good as well because so many things/ways changed and they teach you old school ways ... they focused on acrylic and i prefer gel but we got little gel focus ... they dont really show you shape like you need to take a course/class to learn ... also ... stay positive if you have a passion for doing nails its going to be a tough tough road but stay positive and do what you love ... its not as easy as ppl think ... great video!
Great topics! It is super super expensive! I would say to research the area you plan to work in. I'm in an area with a bunch of retirees. The plus side to that is they can come for their appointments any day of the week & usually dont want weekend or evening appointments. Down side their hands and fingers are so stiff & full of arthritis, fingers pointing in every direction. So it's super hard on me & my body to work on them constantly.
Thank u hope u have some good place love u space and ur work qnd all the amazing advice u give stay blessed I love how im able to see people want to teach there experience.and strategy it is not always easy to find people.like that in this business we have to all stick together
Good info Talia! I think it will help newbies to understand. Even clients should listen to this ... especially the investment part. Haha! I get a lot of 😲 faces when I give my price for nails.
Loved this video! I plan on attending school this summer/ fall. I'm trying to map out a 5 year plan. I have a full time day job and I plan on doing both for at least 5 years. Taking a business class at the local community college is a great idea. I love buying nail stuff... But now I ask myself : Will this make me $$$ in the long run or do I just want it.
Sarah C if it is where your heart is at, it can make you a lot of money! But if you’re doing it just because, maybe not so much. I started cosmetology school. I absolutely loved it all. But I found myself waiting and waiting and waiting for nails. Needless to say, I left cosmo school, moved to my husbands home town, and now am attending school for nail tech. It took me most of that tuition to realize I wanted nails. But that’s fine with me due to it helping me discover more of myself! Best of luck with it all❤️
Could not agree more. I want to go on a shaping course so I am saving my penny’s hard to do this. Also my saying is buy cheap buy twice. I think it’s better to pay more as items like lamps EFILEs will last longer. Tfs really good video 💅🏻🧚🏻♀️
Do all nail techs do acrylic nails or are there different types of specialized nail techs? (Regular nail polish manicure tech, gel nail tech,etc)?👀...or does a nail tech have to know how to do all types of nail techniques?👀...thank you for making this video, very helpful and informative 👍🏼😊
Just watch your video about things that you wish to know you would have known before you got started things I wish I knew now and as I'm getting started good schools to go to that you can do online and the fact how hard it is to get going even with a school have MS have to do more stuff online in Washington State requires that you go to classes have found one possibility of going to school have my nail salon business Certificate and nail salon building but not finding a school that is good for me been doing my own nails for 20 years wow this is a lot Love it though Any suggestions on nail technician Washington State classes or courses
Thank you! Great information ! I wasn't goong to comment but i just haf to. Your skin is absolutely GORGEOUS! Would you consider showing your skincare routine?
I did my workshops and initial courses years ago, so pre covid. it was way easier to find workshops in person then. Check with the brands you're interested in using because they all have workshops and courses using their products :)
Thnks fr the heads up i'm gettn so fustrated almost 2mnths since i strtd n i hv no clientele period i wanna jst gv up i feel like im investn more money dan im gettn bk i wanna venture into smthing else i feel i wanna relaunch so things wil hit off.need ur advice.
I really like this video.. I'm starting nail school next week and I'm excited but I'm also scared because atm, I don't have another job and.. Am I just gonna fail because I can't put money back into my career once school ends..? I was looking to go to a salon and get some good experience there before trying to see if I could do my own business, since I don't exactly ha E a lot of money atm.
1. Clients come and go.
2. You won't learn everything you need to learn in a nail course. It's basic.
3. It takes times. Growing clientele, business, work.
4. It is expensive. Nail table, E-files, lamps, etc.
5. Business knowledge/background is important
You're a hero
Sabrina Kelly, your comment was really helpful. Thank you ❤️
Yes very helpful!
Wow that's really good advice thank you!
These are all fantastic!
Thank you sooo much for your advice. I'm taking it girl!!♥️
I wish I would have known that it’s most definitely not a 9-5! It’s literally your life. All day, every day! Clients text and message you no matter the time, or if it’s a holiday, if you’re sick, closed etc. You can’t turn it off lol
Dee, I think that’s the case with any truly good, profitable profession. I own many cabin rentals and it’s like that with the me.
Get an online scheduler. You pay per month but the clients do it all. I’m a part of Booksy
you quite literally CAN turn it off (your phone) and respond when it works for you.
I've been in the nail industry for 25 years , and everything you said is 100% true. Especially #1!
maryann HT May I ask do you make good amount of money to live?
I have 17hours left of my apprenticeship!!! This video is very helpful should have my license by this summer.
Thank you hun
Totally agree 💯
LOVE YOU 😍💖💖💖
Happy Easter, all nail-addicts out there 🥚🐣🐤
Paula Aalto I know some ppl that only go to a tech to get nails put on then fill them themselves a couple of time then take them off.
Same here wow thanks much...this helped much
Awesome video Talia!
Yeah thank you I'm just starting and this is a lot of good information
Best of luck to you hun!! Its a great adventure
1000% agree! it's important to have business knowledge for sure :)
Stef6788 I would love this! That's where I'm at now just a fanatic looking to start a you tube and maybe one day make this a full business
Thank you!
I’m happy this video helped you out hun
Yes exactly! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my channel hun. Thanks for watching :)
Great video with some really good advice! I’ve been a nail tech for twenty years and everything you said is spot on!
Awe! Thank you so much hun
Zena Does Nails Good suggestions Zena! This one is exactly what I was thinking of addressing on TH-cam but building my biz took priority 😍
Zena Does Nails I agree I went with a cheaper place and I wish I had have gone with another place. It was way to basic. I've taken a few classes since that have helped. I enjoyed this video.
Because of this comment you have a new sub! Lol
Boom! A ton of great info in one paragraph
I’m in nail school now and this video was so informative. Thank you very much!
Thank you for letting me know this I’ve been doing nails for four years and I’m just starting to my own business and it’s kind a hard but I know I get it together I’m not giving up I love what I do
It takes time
i have been in the nail bus for close to 30 years, and everything you are touching on is spot on. school doesn't teach how to do great nails that is up to you and further education. when i started out e-files were taboo, only discount salons used them and they had a very bad rap. nail art wasn't to popular either. So definitely the cost of business is much more these days. love what i do but it certainly not an easy business it really takes having back up support and patients, and a lot of sitting around when building a clientele.
This is suchhhhh a great video !!! For someone barely starting out it is the perfect info anyone like myself needs. Thank you !
Hi Talia, thanks to you nd other youtubers, I found a passion I didn' know I had... NAIL!!! And I have to thank you.. encapsulating your designs.. rocks!!!!
Thanks so much for the support hun
AMEN SISTER! 🙌 I'm 2 years in with no other job and 3 children living with my mom. I just wish I knew. But we're making it by the grace
Thanks so much for watching hun
Same here! I couldn’t be more happy with all the brands I have now :)
Same
Excellent video!
I've always said that I am a business woman first and an esthetician second cause there is no way to be one without the other!
when i’m older i want to be a nail tech! it’s my dream job 😍💅🏼
Hi Talia I absolutely love your videos and im glad to be hearing your experience in the industry and im a self taught nail enthusiast looking to going to school in december and I have to agree on all your points and especially the money side..... I just do mine and my friends and learn from you and few other techs on TH-cam and in the 10 months ive been going I agree it is expensive but if its your passion its well worth the investment and I wanna thank you personally for giving me the courage to not give up :) you as well as some others are absolutely amazing techs my local nail salon kinda discouraged me but the tech I used to go to loves my progress in all aspects of building and shaping and pushes me to grow my knowledge and eventually go to school when I can afford it
Thank you so much for the support
Please please please do a video about the difference between gel and acrylic. So many nail salons near me try do use acrylic with gel topcoat or polish and charge 50$+ for it. I just got over charged yesterday and I really think people need to know. Thank you & I love your videos ❤️💕
I think point 5 is the most important. Even if you work for others, you need to understand everything that factors into the finished product.
Hope it helped hun
Halfway through my school hours. Very much appreciate all your info. Thank you so much.
Love the topic.. and im so glad that you are posting all these vids. Thanks for your honesty
This advice is golden! Ty!
Oh I'm so glad it helps!
Great advice talia!!! 😊
Thanks for this good advice. Yes its very expensive. This was very helpful and inspiring.
Open up your own salon. You won’t regret it. Just do it!
Thank you so much for this video. Sure helps a lot and I really appreciate the time you put into all your videos.
agrees quality products ... some things embellishments you can get away with on ebay and other places .... i think that forgetting everything you learned in nail school is good as well because so many things/ways changed and they teach you old school ways ... they focused on acrylic and i prefer gel but we got little gel focus ... they dont really show you shape like you need to take a course/class to learn ... also ... stay positive if you have a passion for doing nails its going to be a tough tough road but stay positive and do what you love ... its not as easy as ppl think ... great video!
This is really helpful. Thanks for making this. It will help me prepare for the future
Everything is true I ❤️ doing nails
Great topics! It is super super expensive! I would say to research the area you plan to work in. I'm in an area with a bunch of retirees. The plus side to that is they can come for their appointments any day of the week & usually dont want weekend or evening appointments. Down side their hands and fingers are so stiff & full of arthritis, fingers pointing in every direction. So it's super hard on me & my body to work on them constantly.
Do I have to go to cosmetology school in order to take nail tech classes. Because I only want do nails. nothing else
Very good information, and it made sense. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you great video thank you so much great information I'm just starting in the nail industry and I don't know what I'm doing
Yes!!! Great advice Talia! Thanks for sharing 😊
Best of luck with it all❤️
+Makayla Massey thanks for your advice. I do really love nails too. Good luck in your journey!💜
What a wonderful job!! Thanks for being so honest, how very true with all that you said. Get Job!!!
You nailed this "pun intended" wow Talia your so right thank you girl for making this video
Great advice I’m currently getting ready for my own nail business so ur advice helps a lot!!
Extremely helpful tips. Thank you Talia 💖💖
Excellent video Talia, very informative.
I love this video 💙 best advice I've heard in a while
You are gorgeous. I absolutely love this and your other channel.
Could not agree more. I want to go on a shaping course so I am saving my penny’s hard to do this. Also my saying is buy cheap buy twice. I think it’s better to pay more as items like lamps EFILEs will last longer. Tfs really good video 💅🏻🧚🏻♀️
Thank you, i'm glad someone think the same way as me ☺️
Thanks for watching girl
Do all nail techs do acrylic nails or are there different types of specialized nail techs? (Regular nail polish manicure tech, gel nail tech,etc)?👀...or does a nail tech have to know how to do all types of nail techniques?👀...thank you for making this video, very helpful and informative 👍🏼😊
I only offer and go gel nails. It totally depends on your local area requirements (some require you to learn both) or your certification course.
Talia's Nail Tales oh I see🤔...would you also say that it could be a preferencial thing for the nail tech? 👀...thank you for your reply!😊💯👍🏼
Thank you so so much you just helped me so much. You are the best.
How popular is dip polish?
Adore you, so full of information and wanting to help everyone - xo

I wasn't goong to comment but i just haf to. Your skin is absolutely GORGEOUS! Would you consider showing your skincare routine?
Thanks for the awesome advice talia ❤
Very very useful information
I like your advice.. it helps thanks
Where did you go for your courses? Online? On campus? I'm struggling to even find classes near me since I'm in a small town :(
I did my workshops and initial courses years ago, so pre covid. it was way easier to find workshops in person then. Check with the brands you're interested in using because they all have workshops and courses using their products :)
Thank you for this! So real and helpful!
Wow this is so helpful! Thank you for all these good advices :)
I'm so glad they helped you!
Good tips thanks
I totally agree with you!
