- 2 Philips tapedecks uit 1977, de N4504 en de luxere N4506 met MFB voorverterker en diverse extra funties zoals multiplay, post fading, windspeed en cue, diverse aansluitingen met regelbaar in en uitgangsniveau. De opname en weergave kwaliteit van beide decks is in principe gelijk, al hoor je wel een klein verschil maar dat heeft meer met de afregeling en het gebruik van verschillende (en oude) tapes te maken. De lichte brom die je hoort komt van de aansluitkabel van de telefoon. Muziek in deze video van: Jan Hammer - Crockett's Theme.

Very underrated tape decks! I owned the N4506, which I strongly recommend over the N4504 because of the huge versatility in the 4506. I only wish Philips would have made the deck with the ability for 10" reels and a 15 IPS speed. I became a serious audiophile back in 1978/79 and as a drummer, I found the N4506 allowed me to over dub my drumming in place of the original drums of music I recorded from my LPs.
I'm not saying it was professional quality overdubbing but when you have no assistants, the N4506 made the process much easier, thanks to the built-in mixing board and the fact that all the heads were 'in-line'. The N4506 has 3 heads and 3 motors and the 'in-line heads' are exactly how you want them on any deck that you intend using for any specialized, (and special effects), precision recording.
Of course, there are recording accessories that you can buy to do the same kind of recording if you don't have a deck with 3 or more heads in a line. I sold my N4506 to a pawnshop while going through my first divorce back in 1994 or 95. In fact, I sold most of my equipment to pawnshops back then, and of course, never got anywhere near what they were worth.
If you don't need the money right away, never take your equipment to a pawnshop! They'll rob you and they won't even have the courtesy of pointing a gun at your head.
Anyway, in the last 4 years, I rebuilt a analog stereo system from the ground up. I have 3 Reel to Reel decks, a Tascam 32, 1/2-track mastering deck, a Teac 3440-A, 4-track/4-channel deck, and a little Akai 4000DS MKII, 4-track/2-channel deck, which I don't really use much anymore.
Still, if I could find a Philips N4506 in descent shape, I'd buy it or trade it for the Akai 4000DS MKII.

I have two of the 4504 and recently got a 4506. Don't be fooled by all the plastic and light weight. These are both great machines.
You don't know what you got till it's gone! I was given a N4506 in 1992, used it to transfer a few old tapes, and then it just gathered dust. I moved out of my flat in 2006, and had nowhere to put it, so left it in the storage area of the apartment building. The thing still had the plastic cover and all the necessary leads (that I had to make myself - who sells 4-pin DIN these days?!) It was a great machine, though not as classy as the earier wood/metal machines.
Just acquired an n4506 and can’t wait to use it.recording his issues apparently but plus back fine.

When i was a teenager i used to have a Aristona EW5512 (a N4504 without DNL)
Recorders are not bad, the ones I got however would have tape heads that were totally worn out (especially the recording head). If the heads were good working they still would get dirty very soon.
I needed always clean them multiple times when recording. Even with relative clean tapes. These machines made me switch to AKAI recorders with GX heads. I never had to worry about the heads again since.
Both are beautifullI, anyway I just cant wait to put my hands on purchased N4506. I hear some slight differences. In both after recording some prevail of low band over upper is audible and that of course is the most at 4.75. Facing many .years of their service I think the recording heads which are not FX are partly worn so I would try to adjust bias voltage lower to regain original factory current bias . I use always noise for that purpose and judge by listening . Anyway I do not know how and where in Philips. Rgds.

Fajny materiał. Właśnie kupiłem sobie taki Philips N-4506:) Jeszcze czekam na przesyłkę. Już nie mogę się doczekać.
Mijn vader had een N4506, met twee MFB 544 speakers. Heb toen zelf twee MFB 567 speakers gehad (iets groter) maar nooid een N4506 gevonden. Ik heb net twee MFB 587 besteld die helemaal gereviseerd zijn. Wacht nog op een antwoord voor de aanschaf van een N4506. Moet waarschijnlijk gereviseerd worden.
Mijn vader werkte soms voor de NOS (geluits engineer) in de jaren 70 en maakte kopieën van zijn master opnamen op deze tape recorder. In de 4 sporen positie. Niet helemaal zeker dat het model exact de N4506 was. Wel was er de MFB uitgang op. Geen versterkers in huis meer. Er naast een Nakamichi Dragon als kassettendeck.
Nog verdere informatie over dit deck ? Toevallig technische informatie (PDF bestand of dergelijke ?)
Interessantes Video, verstehe nur nicht warum ein Tonband bei 4,5cm so schlecht klingt im Verhältniss zu einer Kassette, bei der das Band ja viel schmaler ist. Grüße
