    I still have this one at home, slipping in the very same room with me, perfect working condition... Maybe the best looking type deck ever...my opinion..... I have few more RTR, revox, teac, akai gx 747... but this is pure beauty, and the sound is just wow! Grab you in cocoon of music like spider. Love it, thank you Philips for developing this unit

    There is one model higher N4522 two track. but a N4520 is also very nice
    Cost a fortune i am afraid.......
    My deck was a Aristona EW5512 much much cheaper. But the sound was oke.

    Beautiful deck... Any chance that I can buy it? In my 'audiophile days' I owned a Philips N4506. It had 3-head/2-motors, auto-reverse and a built-in mixing board. It was very nice but not even close to the 4520 or 4522, (or even the 7300!), all of which I would love to buy if I could find one.
    BTW, I always loved those jazz electronic keyboards. I played the drums in a few bands and two of them had some serious Rolland keyboards that could create that voice perfectly! A kind of pipe-organ with an electric organ (and maybe mixed in with a little bit of electric piano). Very cool sound.

      Rich Paul Never buy a 7300. Full plastic, parts break beyond repair after 40 years. Get a N4450 or this N4520. Do yourself a favor.

      @@Robbie68K I'd love to get a N4520! I Own a Tascam 32 1/2 track mastering deck, a Teac 3440A 4-track/4-channel and a little Akai 4000DS MKII 4-track/2-channel. I don't really use the Akai much and I'd practically give it away (in very good shape, plus I added a second internal cooling fan and custom hard-cover). I need to see if I can get a N4520 in descent shape.
      Thanks,
      Rich

      Rich Those are nice machines as well. I’m happy to own a N4520 and it’s a keeper. You can find one for sale every now and then here in the Netherlands. I hope one day you’ll get lucky and find one.

      @@Robbie68K Yes, thanks again Robbie! As much as I try to keep up with this kind of equipment, I know I miss some info on good models every now and then. However, I was very surprised that I didn't know about the N4520 until you told me because I was always impressed with the N4506 when I owned that back in 1980 or '81. I know that the N4520 is more advanced than the N4506, by far.
      I'm impressed with the kind of heads Philips put in that machine and because I do almost nothing but 15 IPS recording, I was very happy to see that the N4520 had included that speed. In fact, after I read some of the basic specifications, (and the fact that it had switchable tape bias right on the panel), I became even more interested in getting one in the future.
      I've got some things to take care of but I'll probably start a serious search for one by next month.

    I wonder if that records in 4 track at 15 ips so you could record on both sides. I have a Tascam 2 track and I go through tape like crazy. I think 15 ips sounds so much better than 7 1/2.

      The 4520 plays/ records in 4-track format. (2 tracks mono or in stereo on each side of the tape) It has 3 3/4 7,5 and 15 ips.

    • @blackwaterdogs4256
      @blackwaterdogs4256 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the typical home enthusiast, 15 ips is a hideous waste of (expensive) tape....7 1/2 ips, with an outboard dbx unit is a much more practical and cost-effective solution. I made such a copy from a pristine vinyl LP of Yes`s "Fragile" album, it sounds better than a CD.

    • @garethonthetube
      @garethonthetube 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blackwaterdogs4256 I have a 4522 and I must agree that 15ips is probably better than most of us need. Freq response is well up to 20kHz at 7 1/2 ips but there is a bit more hiss.

    • @blackwaterdogs4256
      @blackwaterdogs4256 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@garethonthetube Yes, I hear you (also agree). As I mentioned in my earlier post, if I`m striving for the BEST results, I will employ a stand-alone dbx unit, which knocks the noise floor WAY down, where it`s just about inaudible....
