When did actors gain the right to sue when their show was cancelled? I can come up with several shows that deserved more time than they got, but I don't remember any of their cast and crew whining so hard and saying they were going to sue, they just recognized that it was business. Shows get cancelled, even shows with (real) high approval. Also, how would suing even work? What, she sues Disney? Well, if she has a Disney+ account, apparently she can't! Even if she does and wins, all Disney is going to do is say "Fine, you get a second season, but we're not putting ANY money into it." then gives the second season $2 and a half-chewed stick of gum. All this to say, there's no way this whiny, half-Danish, brat gets what she really wants.
I feel like they have sued in the past just not like this because of how miffed this particular actress is about losing her job. I kind of agree with the idea of, if she's hired for other projects that don't concern Acolyte season 2, then she at least is allowed to participate in them. Although, considering Disney said no Acolyte season 2 and is likely not going to fund these other projects her deplorable attitude to keep it, or these others alive, is beyond reproach.
Disney said NO. Please stop trying to keep your job when they've gone through the process of considering this financially and realized they can't move forward with them. It’s really odd that new actors don’t understand the concept of getting your contract canceled after your series is canceled. Plenty of people have been signed on for multiple movies or TV shows season and when the projects get canceled, the person cannot fight that. This is a very narcissistic thing for her to dobecause a court is not going to make Disney pay her or reinstate a canceled season. She doesn’t want to go to court because it will prove how bad it was when they show why they canceled.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are performance goals and morals clauses in her contract that she broke. Besides, Gina Carano had a contract, and look at what Disney did to her over a tweet they didn't like - this tiny headed buffoon paid to produce an entire music video just to shit on fans of the franchise; talk about being bad for, and at, business.
What part of show cancelled does Stenberg not understand? TV shows get cancelled all the time. They always have been. If they can't find the audience, it gets cancelled. For any show, if the ratings drop rather than go up, it gets cancelled. Yeah, it sucks you have to find another job but that is a big part of being an actor. This has always been true. Show gets cancelled, contract is null and void as it is based on the potential success of the first season. It wasn't cancelled because of race or queerness or any other reason other than the fact it was a hugely expensive failure with the audience. Poor writing, poor acting, poor production. It looked like a show that should have cost no more than $10M to make. 8 30-minute episodes. Instead, it cost $180m which is an insane amount of money.

I think this is where they are going to get in trouble. Retconning removes any chance of royalty payments on merch, which are certainly in the contract of all the actors who were major characters in this show.

I've been saying for a while now that whoever is managing / advising this young woman is doing a very poor job. She needs a new team around her. This is just going to cost her a lot in legal fees and brand her as too much of a risk to hire (although to be fair, she's already on that list) and it's going to go nowhere.
