Fun Fact: the Wii is determining default gateway, DNS path, and NAT type to best configure its network when connecting. And the processor in that thing is dated somewhere around the Battle of Waterloo, so that takes absolute ages
Yeah I figured most wifi devices normally check those things as well as test a trace route or something to ensure any ports required for there services are open and functioning. Some may also check max MTU size these days to determine most efficient/effective data transfer etc.
If I tip 20% in Germany, waiters or food delivery drivers can't believe that I'm tipping that much. If you tip about 2 Euros for delivery drivers or 5 Euros in a Restaurant (the price you pay for the food doesn't really matter) you're considered a good tipper. Obviously expectations can be higher in expensive or fine dining restaurants, but for every day food, a tip is not even a given fact.
Well the US likes to have modern service slaves. Treat them shit, pay them nothing and if they don’t smile then they make no money at all. Also if the business is low you get next to nothing for providing your worktime and power(prep).
That's because in the US tips subsidize the fact that waiters are usually paid less than minimum wage, and Germany has enough labor rights for this not to be a factor
@@twitchmania7614 it's in the customer's interest. If the company has to pay more, the food also gets more expensive because that money has to come from somewhere. Of course, the conversation is different depending on whether we're talking about a fast-food chain, a small diner in a small town, or a major restaurant. And it also depends on the country. The labour laws play a huge role, and so does the local currency, specifically how low is the value of the lowest bank note. In the US, people are very likely to leave small tips just because they don't care for coins (since the lowest bank note is just 1$).
@@CanIHasThisName doesnt matter if the food is a little more expensive, because then you wouldnt have to leave big tips. It would be basically the same price. If restaurants cant afford to pay there workers then their business isnt viable. Quit making excuses for these cheap ass restaurants that dont wanna pay their employees.
Luke might value it but I think Linus reads them in spite and is a little too obsessive over sanitizing his own little reality bubble. I know because you can’t read my comment since Linus doesn’t like my comments.
The total value of assets in Canada is about $60 trillion. Thirty times the market cap of nvidia. GDP only measures the transactions of an economy in a single year, not a country's wealth. GDP is more akin to a company's annual revenue not its market cap.
Actually I think you'll find that nvidia GPUs are extremely prevalent in AI applications, and AI is worth all money so nvidia are actually more rich than everybody.
Linus talking about his immersing experience in flight sim makes me think he needs to do a video at a flight safety or cae and try/show the full motion sims that train professional pilots
I suspect getting access is potentially the difficult part. Though other TH-camrs have covered them so it should be possible, how far he has to travel is likely to be the stumbling block along with cost to return levels.
They probably don't make ad revenue off cached pages. They already promote the results that pay them more money. But according to them, that's different then a 'sponsored' result. 🙄
I think Alan Rickman said he didn't understand it and generally wasn't a fan of sci-fi,but later came to like it, I think mostly because of fans being so lovely to him about it
I used cached pages all the time for finding things on forums that have been discontinued. Drives me crazy that it's gone. The way back machine doesn't capture them at all.
2:07:00 dude, uber and lyft pricing is so insane now. Its not even worth it. Last two times I needed an uber for just a random errand or to get to and from the airport, I did the math and figured out **RENTING A CAR FOR THE ENTIRE DAY** with a "free" rideshare to pick up your rental (still have to tip), was cheaper than getting an uber straight to and from where I needed to be. How is that even possible???
I would always tip well, but it bothers me for a million reasons when they verbally ask me for a tip. That means 2 things; The platforms not paying drivers enough, and riders are stiffing drivers. So I just overpaid to get to work in someone’s Corolla and a huge percentage of the money goes to who? Just charge riders a regular membership fee. Charge drivers a monthly membership fee to use the platform and give them all of the fares. Uber could survive like that, but line must go up
I've been doing some networking equipment set up or reset up. I bought a router 4 years ago finally got around to configuring it in swapping out my old one. Modern operating systems are taking forever to link connections I found myself going back to my MacBook Pro running 10.6 where I plug the cable in it and it's linked up or not. vs the modern variance where they sit there for about a minute before linking and then they have to verify the Internet connection and then pop up a window over the window you're trying to access the router to configure. Most of the time they're just supposed to hit a website with a basic HTML page of "it work" or something like that. but I've had times when windows thought it wasn't connected when I was for like hours.
The U.S. Army should genuinely be considered an established corporation at this point with how much diversification they have in revenue streams outside of direct governmental funding.
Nvidia is not worth more than Canada, it's valuation is higher than Canada's GDP. But GDP is not value, it's more comparable to yearly revenue, and a companies' revenue is usually many times lower than it's stock value. Basically, Canada almost makes enough money to buy an Nvidia sized company every single year.
just to challenge your preconceptions: Free Arabian Legion. the nazis also used sovjet soldiers which also feature asian peoples. So these pictures might seem really out of it but might be more true than expected. Never forget that WW2 (and WW1) was a conflict between empires and as such their colonies partook
For the photography thing I think the major difference is the generative aspect of it. Filters, as in actual camera filters not talking about digital ones, have already created images that aren't reality, but are indeed a photograph. Something like the Windows XP wallpaper, if you were there the colors weren't that saturated. It's all because of a filter. The focal length is a very simple way of creating a photograph that is totally different from what eyes perceive. Processing the information received in whatever wacky way I would still consider a photograph. When you start inputting information that comes from somewhere else, like say generating a different sky, or generating a wall to "remove" another person. That's when I would consider it an edited/fake photograph instead of just a processed photograph.
To the points about how the very nature of photography changes the experience and/or reality of an image, check out Susan Sontag's "On Photography". Oh, and Luke @1:02:05 - the paths aren't entirely untrodden. Sontag wrote the book about her experiences in the Spanish civil war almost 100 years ago. Definitely worth the read and the conversation about the transformative nature of capturing a moment, regardless of the specific media. I think we're just becoming more conscious of it now than we were before.
I also work as a live lighting technician, I am a student and do my job at a high school. We have multiple (16) moving head led lights, it's plenty for most of our theaters and those are really good looking lights. Though they are the best value for money we could find, (everything Volux lighting) 300-500 w high cri LEDs are still very expensive. Therefore apart from a dozen LED pars, everything else we have is conventional, we are trying to replace it, but at 1000 $ per light minimum and 30 lights it's very hard.

Sony systems when doing the internet test, are not only doing a speed test, but also a NAT test, so they're first telling the server to try to connect to them on a set port, then when that fails it tries to use UPNP to open the port and tries that again... That process takes a long time...
1:51:07 as an owner of a small production and hire company I can definitely say it’s very difficult to keep up with lighting tech. It is moving super fast.
2:10:00 Tipping is not mandatory in Australia and works exactly the way Linus described that it should. If you do, it's greatly appreciated and not expected.
2:12:15 and again, In Australia all displayed prices are inclusive of GST (tax) in any retail setting. If a drink is $2.95, that's what you pay on the bill whether you're at a restaurant or a supermarket.
Determining if a device has internet connection can be more complex than it sounds. There are multiple issues to consider (firewalls, failing routes, extremely slow connections, packet loss, ISP traffic filtering, etc, etc). Currently our internal frameworks does about 5 separate tests and then checks whether the majority succeed or fail.
As a polymer engineer, the “Plastic bags use less energy/water” argument is not a good argument. Solving problems created by plastics pollution (microplastics, plasticizers, additives) in soil, water, people, is MUCH harder than the water usage and carbon emissions of paper production. Microplastic pollution is a much worse problem than carbon emissions.
01:45:30 This is false, if he's talking about the US. There is no ban on tungsten or incandescent bulbs. There is an efficiency requirement put into effect of 45 lumens per watt, which does exclude all incandescent bulbs, but it only applies to household light bulbs. Specifically, bulbs with a medium base with an output level between 310 and 2600 lumens. It does not apply to theater lights in any way.
I've been bringing my own grocery bags for two years. I've acquired more reusable bags than I can keep up with at events like LTX and PAX, where they were included as a bonus alongside merchandise purchases.
Spoiler: That has been the case for over a decade. You could fingerprint a system through: GPU Type, Core Count of CPU, Fonts installed on the system, amount of ram, resolution of monitor, monitor count. Just that list is going to get you a fairly unique signature - and then you could do a combination of general use time+time zone, and combine that with IP general location. For the IP you can cross reference the IP with known VPN addresses to know if you should disregard that information. What this probably comes down to is, login isn't useful, and the useful thing is found in the crash report more than anything else. And if you want people to use your tools and features, you need AS FEW points of friction as possible - and in light of Intel and AMD slowly nipping at NVIDIA's heals, NVIDIA is going to want to ward off that kind of threat to their market-share, and anything and everything NVIDIA can do to avoid that problem is going to be leveraged.
RE the advertising email: Nobody vets those spam lists. I work for a massive tech company (anyone on the internet knows it and most have used our services). I constantly get spam to my work email complete with my name, my title, the business name, etc, with shit like "Let us be your HR / payroll solution!" "Let us be your phone solution!" "Are you in corporate compliance? use our compliance solution!" Anyone who looked at the business name should instantly know that absolutely NOBODY will ever use their solution based on spam emails. Total waste of email.

Tax included prices would require a level of government competence we've never seen in our lifetime. In the US, each state has its own sales tax and there can be multiple local taxes for counties, cities, transportation districts, etc.
If a store knows what the tax will be at checkout, they can print the price with tax on the shelf. Lots of stores have LCD price displays that can be automatically updated remotely. It's not the government stopping stores, stores just don't want to
I would love for that Right to Repair video to be a huge, like, hour long documentary with commentary featuring everyone from Technology Connections to Louis Rossman. I'm IN.
Whoever asked the lighting question is misinformed. First, specialty bulbs like what we use in theatrical lighting are not on the ban list. second, the LED equivalent to theatrical fixtures are under $3k CAD at this point, and dropping
Claiming it costs $10k to release one tungsten fixture is absurd. I work in live production and have installed great performing white balance adjustable fixtures that are fully programmable, smart fixtures. I recently installed an array of 8 fixtures for about $2500 dollars for a small venue (sub 1000 seats). You DON’T need the crazy $10k fixtures for a small theater.
Gratuities are supposed to be...well, gratuitous by definition. Unnecessary. Not required. Not used as a way of hiding the inflated real-world cost of dinner behind the small listed price in the menu,
The worst thing about manually disabling wifi on the sonos speakers is that it won't auto-reconnect to wifi when the cable is unplugged. Why isn't it just: cable in? wifi off. cable out? wifi on. I love my sonos gear but this stuff really makes it feel like a toy tbh

My problem with 4k Blu-Rays is how expensive they are. A 1080 Blu-ray is 10€ here but 4k one is 28€. Lower the price to the same as a Cinema ticket, 15-18€ and I would buy it every time I bought a Blu-ray.
1:20:00 just a ping isn't enough to determine if there is real internet connection. If you have a proper router you could simply determine what IP, or even domain, the device is trying to ping and then spoof if. Usually, that internet connectivity check involves actually talking to a server, which doesn't necessarily need to take as long as it does, but isn't as simple as just pinging it.

I don’t know if you’ve gotten this request before but can you do an animation or drop the brightness of “The WAN Show” logo? I seem to have a bit of burn-in on my LG OLED TV now because of how long these shows run for. Trailing edge ICs will also see much increased production for sure, you know stuff like power mosfets and other support ICs needed to run the leading edge chips by feeding them stable power for example but also for other needed hardware and similar support, audio amps for codecs, networking stuff etc etc I hope trailing edge is not missing the big picture and upgrading current factories (deprecating the current node) instead of deploying new factories for newer nodes as the fact is they will all prove needed. Even Microcontrollers will see increased market demand at multiple levels (read, arduno AVR/ARM, RP2040 pico etc) due to Drones and other nifty stuff.
1:57:16 The main thing holding me back from getting a PSVR 2 was the lack of PC support. The only PS5 game I would use it with would be GT7 but I would definitely consider upgrading from a quest 2 to a psvr2 if all the features can be utilized properly. Glad to see they aren't just canning all the work they've done on it and never doing anything with VR again.
Just noticed in the AG1 sponsor segment, and please enlighten me if I got it wrong... But if 1 serving is 50 calories, and the daily value (DV) are based on a 2000 calorie diet... How is it that this 50 calorie serving covers 71% of the daily value? Moreover, why are there positions with 1100% of he daily value? Is it just easier / more cost effective because it's too difficult to measure 30mcg?
Bigger numbers are better is the only reason. If the body is even able to absorb it doesn‘t matter. Everything above the 125% mark is almost always just waste that ends up unprocessed. And i think the DV is not meant as the calories but instead if the nutrients and their recommended daily values (NRV)
I’m sorry, but the theatre tech concerned about upgrading to LED has CLEARLY not looked at the LED stage lighting market in the last 5 years. I’ve worked in AVL direction and integration in various capacities since 2016. Every single established stage lighting manufacturer has a WIDE range of high quality white, variable white, and full colour LED fixtures. They have for many years now, and they’re still constantly innovating. There are options in literally every price bracket you could think of. Any venue that hasn’t switched to LED stage lighting yet has completely ignored the benefits and economic viability for too many years now.
I have a 9 ft by 12 ft room, that is my theater room, with a steep pitched ceiling, and I could fit a 120 inch in there but it's basically wall to wall.
Including the taxes at the total is more oriented to the costumers, because the entire point is how much the costumers pay. Not including the taxes at the total cost is more oriented to the business, because the entire point of that is to figure out how much did the business got. If you need a lot, its more than worth it to get the larger pad over several smaller pads.
Volume on most things is the same way, hardest thing is getting it to your door.
@@gh0stcassettewhy is the everyday citizen responsible for paying a resturaunts workers wages tho? It should be the company’s responsibility. Period.

@@360Fov Actually that has nothing to do with the concepts of market cap or GDP. Market cap isn't really current value, it's based on expectations.

Uber could survive like that, but line must go up
That harmonized "yeah" at 26:21 * chefs kiss *

I've been doing some networking equipment set up or reset up. I bought a router 4 years ago finally got around to configuring it in swapping out my old one. Modern operating systems are taking forever to link connections I found myself going back to my MacBook Pro running 10.6 where I plug the cable in it and it's linked up or not. vs the modern variance where they sit there for about a minute before linking and then they have to verify the Internet connection and then pop up a window over the window you're trying to access the router to configure. Most of the time they're just supposed to hit a website with a basic HTML page of "it work" or something like that. but I've had times when windows thought it wasn't connected when I was for like hours.
this is why I love linux

Sony systems when doing the internet test, are not only doing a speed test, but also a NAT test, so they're first telling the server to try to connect to them on a set port, then when that fails it tries to use UPNP to open the port and tries that again... That process takes a long time...

The Nvidia app not requiring login just means that they don't need you to log in in order for them to know who you are.
