really great when I think of Freddie Mercury's unbelievable vocals. The man was terminally ill and sang in such a powerful voice. Since the QUAL version is much more credible.
Agreed! Apparently he'd stopped smoking so his voice had lost some of its gruff thickness but gained back his higher range - noticeable on this song and the rest of the Innuendo album. Don't Try So Hard is in my opinion one of his best ever vocal performances on an album track.
In principle, it doesn't really matter who sings higher or lower, a song only becomes good through the feelings it conveys. AL sings like my kids would recite their poems, fast and without rhyme or reason. Comparisons lag insofar as the one armed only with a microphone sings against a high-tech singer. Take AL, unfortunately it doesn't work the other way around, all the technology is gone, give him a microphone and let him "sing about" stadiums
@@HundXanthippe It does matter in principle who is listening and how they are listening though. I have no idea if you were at this performance in person but if not and you are basing your comments upon listening to a cell phone recording (cell phones can do a pretty good job of capturing the music but they are not miracle machines and cannot capture the dynamics' of a live performance) then you comment is flawed and does not carry any weight. If you were there and you are basing your comment on what you experienced in person, then I must ask, why did you go to this concert? You obviously have a mental block that refuses to acknowledge that Freddie is not coming back and that another singer can do a very good job at singing the music Freddie made famous. If all you got from the concert was what you wrote in your comment then you obviously have an issue with Adam performing as the frontman for Queen and nobody (in your eyes and ears) will ever do except for Freddie. Unfortunately, Freddie is not coming back. Adam is not trying to be Freddie but he does a really good job at singing these songs with a pinch of his own flavor added so he does not sound like someone trying to mimic Freddie. There are a whole lot of Queen fans (newer and older) that think that Adam is a very good fit and is the right man for the job in the absence of Freddie. Roger and Brian love Adam's abilities and they refer to him as their gift from god. But you seem stuck in the Freddie Mercury era of Queen and just can't help but draw comparisons that disparage Adam to Freddie instead of appreciating what Adam brings to the table. C'mon....do you really think that is what Roger and Brian and even Freddie for that matter really wants?
@@USCanthony I work in this industry and make a living from it. Small example ,Milli Vanilli if you don't know who they were, google them and pay attention to the technical details. They show what was technically possible about 30 years ago, including live performances. Today we are "light years" ahead. And, yes, I've probably attended more live concerts professionally than you can imagine. As far as this tour goes, no one was interested, they went to ABBA. Strangely enough, all the fans there knew it was all fake. Queen isn't QUAL that's clear to everyone, just like Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr aren't the Beatles. Brian May, Roger Taylor, AL sing Queen suits. But now these three are just a cover band, there are younger ones that are better. Brian May and Roger Taylor made music history with Queen. Can't do it without crediting just one song to John Deacon or Freddie Mercury though. Instead, now comes the news of a new, old Freddie Mercury song. Why not Queensong? Apparently it's these two who still need a Freddie Mercury.
@@HundXanthippe I work in the recording industry mainly in studios with whatever artist(s) needs an audio/recording engineer at the time and I have been doing that for over 30 years. I have been to a ton of concerts either backstage or side stage and sometimes in the sound booth although that isn't my prefered location at concerts and mainly hang in the sound booth if one of my good friends is working the mixing board for that concert. I have worked in just about every recording studio in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area but I am 62 now so my career is slowing down and coming to an end. Most young artists don't want someone old enough to be their grandfather working behind the console no matter how good of a reputation they may have because they assume the sound will be something akin to old skool from the 80's and 90's and let's face it, there are more than enough talented audio engineers in Hollywood to go around. So I have hit the part of my career where age is forcing me to retire but that does not mean I don't know what I am talking about. As for Milli Vanilli, of course I know all about them. I am 62 after all and it would be job malpractice if I did not know who or what they were (or were not for that matter). I have been to Queen + AL concerts but not since the pandemic shut everything down. I will admit that watching the video of their recent concerts does show that both Brian and Roger have slowed down even more but Brian did have that heart problem that sidelined him just before the pandemic so I guess that is to be expected. The energy is no longer there but would it still be there if Freddie had lived and was still the lead singer? Probably not. There are obvious issues that have come with their advancing age and Brian's heart issues have only accelerated how much the whole band has had to slow it down. None of that is Adam's fault though. He has had to adjust and slow down so that he is not getting ahead or just overly energetic and making Roger and Brian look bad but they still are the originators of the Queen sound and while it takes more people to create that sound, they still pull it off so I disagree that they are more of a cover band these days. I happen to know that Adam put a lot of time into learning as much as he could about Freddie and about what Freddie's motivation was when he wrote his songs all in an effort to find how he could emotionally connect to those songs as well. Someone who is not the originator of a song rarely connects on the same emotional level as the person who wrote and performed it but Adam isn't just phoning in the vocals (at least not when I saw them live). Adam was able to find his own emotional connection to most of Queens songs but Adam is also a rock singer while Freddie was rock but with a very strong soul/R&B side as well. That is the biggest difference with how the two sing the songs. Adam approaches them from more of a pure rock point of view while Freddie always had a lot of soul and R&B in his vocals as well. That doesn't make Adam a bad frontman though. Just different. But of course he is going to be different. I am just getting the impression that you do not like different when it comes to Queens sound and therefore different equates to not all that good as far as you are concerned.
I was also there. Lambert was incredible.
Thanks for sharing! I was there too on the 12th, standing next to the mixing desk. Was completely blown away by how epic this song sounded.
Was there that night, probably the best concert I've ever been to.
Absolutely fabulous 🎶💞
SHOW MUST GO ON...⭐️🎶⭐️🎶⭐️🎶⭐️
I was there just of the side of the centre stage
Wow! Mäktigt. Powerful.

Adam might be able to hit higher notes than Freddie did but he cannot handle the lower notes with ease the way Freddie always did.
oh he can, Adam can go very deep, his range is amazing
