This season has "CONTINUITY". Because the portal gun doesn't work they are stuck continuing events where they left off and don't stray too far from the plot. So I understand why people say its different. They aren't exactly "adventuring" they are staying home.
I think what the writers are working toward with the broken portal gun is making Rick see a universe as "home" for the first time since his family was murdered. The death of his family coincided with his development of the portal gun, so he was able to use the gun as a way to put off his grief by feeling unattached to anything. He finally found and allowed himself some attachment, first through prime-Morty and then through the alternate Smith family, and finally now including Jerrybore-swap Jerry. So he's found a family, the next step is finding a home. These character developments are going to come right in time to inspire Rick's fight against the looming threat of prime-Rick and any possible future threat from Evil-Morty.
That's the case with the whole thing, they only leave continuity when they sub us with a family from another reality and we discover it later, and ok there are fillers as usual but even those have traces of continuity to a degree. Like tht cracked pavement in front of the house from the party in the first season.
Rick can fix the portal gin anytime he wants, he hasn't because he's still hunting Rick Prime who's also trapped, although he might be still on the Cronenberg dimension away from Rick who changed dimensions on the first episode

We'll find out in future episodes, I'm sure, but what makes the most sense from a storytelling perspective right now is to take away the crutch the character has been using to force them to grow. For Rick it's his portal gun. Without it he's forced to think of solutions to problems that aren't "search the multiverse" or "move to a new universe". Dan Harmon is many things, not all good, but an excellent writer is one of them, and he knows how to use narrative techniques to great effect. Having Rick lose his greatest power, which simultaneously forces him to make tougher decisions and become attached to a place for the first time in decades is exactly the narrative technique a great storyteller would use.

I like how the bar for Rick and Morty animation is so low, that regular animation of making them look like people is considered blowing it out the water.
I find it great purely because Jerry is truly the everyman. Yeah, he's the punching bag of the show and everyone laughs at him. But that doesn't change the fact he's just an average guy that you're way more likely to be like than Rick. So having him for contrast adds a sense of gravity to Rick's actions that Morty doesn't bring.

He's finally accepting these people as his actual family. Now with the broken portal gun he's going to forced to accept a universe as his "home" for the first time since his original family was killed.
The universe doesn't have to be infinite, and even in an infinite universe without a portal gun or wormhole you're only going as far as the limitations of speed, not to mention the logistical issues. Possibility in the universe is made probable by the theory/laws of improbability. Atoms have a quirky ( no pun intended ) ability to disperse an electron to any other random atom in the universe, without any known cause. Thus, creating a different elemental atom somewhere, randomly. It does this often, as that's what ignites the stars, and there are a pseudo-infinite number of them. Fundamental forces aren't governed by what's unlikely, improbable, or possible. They are governed by what we know isn't impossible, is likely, and is probable. And more cleanly by it's relativity to an observer.. a-la blackhole physics. Scientifically speaking Jerry could be his own dad, he definitely fits the lacking of chromosomes motif of the subject, that much is crystal clear. If it quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck...

This season has SUCKED. Die Hard episode sucked balls, even for Die Hard-fans. Beth's selfcest was interesting for half the episode, then got stale, and they never moved on from it. "Night Family" was just pointless and stupid. Episode 1 was good, though.

I agree, but only because: - Beth has become insufferable. - Morty has so low self esteem, everything he does is wrong and annoying at almost any time. - Summer has become better, but is so shallow that I can't stop myself from being annoyed at times. Given how well it went the last time we seen her i can only imagine how well this is going to go, and then I thought about the talking cat that Rick didnt erase from his memory whatever they saw that made him question living.
Introducing Rick's backstory and adding continuity to the show has made it a lot more enjoyable for me. I loved season 1 and 2, but it slowly started to get less entertaining after that. Things have turned around this season though.
I, personally, find it fascinating that Rick, the smartest being in the universe, when confronted with such a simple task as switching two boxes. Still just lifts them up and places them down the same way, the first time. I don’t know why
it's kind of like these episodes of represent the pandemic because now they're trapped without any portals so every episode has to follow the next it's like they're forced to do Canon which is an interesting and nice Twist on things because this shows usually based in random Adventures because of the portal gun so this season's been a nice change of pace
The reason we love Jerry Is because Morty is no longer an innocent vessel to see the world Rick sees. Rick and Morty are now on the same page after enough adventures together, but Jerry is still what season 1 Morty was. Unsculpted. Maliable. Fresh meat. By putting Jerry in Morty's place, we get the Genius mad scientist + naive normie dynamic that we originally had in the pilot.
I'm guessing they're gonna figure out Jerry has an increased luck thing going on with him so Rick takes him on an adventure utilizing it to get something hard to get. Check back and see if I'm right

Every episode hits different knowing he's with Rick Prime's family from the beginning. It shows why he is more miserable in the first few episodes. He gets better once he gets to the new family. He even starts to like the switched Jerry as well. Beth learns to love switched Jerry and he loves new Beth. Watching everything over knowing the truth is a morty mind blower.

I'm liking the Rick and Jerry relationship this season, Jerry reminds me of summer in how they started and are growing.
So I guess Jerry is picking the mom box 6 times in a row, with a low probability of 1/64 to happen, wich is enough for Rick to confirm that the universe is not random, and it might imply they are in a simulation (again) where law of distribution don't occur on Jerry. Poor Jerry.
Not the first time the Sim went save resource mode on jerry.
i love to see rick and jerry are bonding more and more i mean rick would never admit it but he certainly developed some sort of care for jerry over all the seasons
I'm really loving this season...best one yet because we're seeing Rick become more of a family man than ever before.
He's finally accepting these people as his actual family. Now with the broken portal gun he's going to forced to accept a universe as his "home" for the first time since his original family was killed.
In an infinite universe everything IS as probable as anything else.
I love this show.
The universe doesn't have to be infinite, and even in an infinite universe without a portal gun or wormhole you're only going as far as the limitations of speed, not to mention the logistical issues. Possibility in the universe is made probable by the theory/laws of improbability. Atoms have a quirky ( no pun intended ) ability to disperse an electron to any other random atom in the universe, without any known cause. Thus, creating a different elemental atom somewhere, randomly. It does this often, as that's what ignites the stars, and there are a pseudo-infinite number of them.
Fundamental forces aren't governed by what's unlikely, improbable, or possible. They are governed by what we know isn't impossible, is likely, and is probable. And more cleanly by it's relativity to an observer.. a-la blackhole physics. Scientifically speaking Jerry could be his own dad, he definitely fits the lacking of chromosomes motif of the subject, that much is crystal clear.

Anybody else amazed that Jerry keeps keeping up with Rick and the rest of the Family? I mean for a "loser" he sure can roll with the best of them. Just saying, its not impressive that Rick makes it through things, He is "Rick Sanchez" but OUR jerry is just a jerry and somehow keeps pace with Rick.

Very much so. Continuity, family dynamics, character development, etc. It also doesn't try to copy the first two seasons but builds off of what it's made for itself. Well-played.

Ok season but ep3 was one of the worst eps till date.
This season has SUCKED. Die Hard episode sucked balls, even for Die Hard-fans. Beth's selfcest was interesting for half the episode, then got stale, and they never moved on from it. "Night Family" was just pointless and stupid. Episode 1 was good, though.
anyone noticed ricked should be immortal since he got cookie with "your crush will call you" and we haven't seen anyone calling rick in further episodes
we find out she actually did call. Unity has been calling rick for a while. he's just ghosting her.

I agree, but only because:
- Beth has become insufferable.
- Morty has so low self esteem, everything he does is wrong and annoying at almost any time.
- Summer has become better, but is so shallow that I can't stop myself from being annoyed at times.
Rick is the best character, even though he's a d*ck, and Jerry is nr. 2 right now.

Given how well it went the last time we seen her i can only imagine how well this is going to go, and then I thought about the talking cat that Rick didnt erase from his memory whatever they saw that made him question living.
"why would she want that" is the part that really got me.
Introducing Rick's backstory and adding continuity to the show has made it a lot more enjoyable for me. I loved season 1 and 2, but it slowly started to get less entertaining after that. Things have turned around this season though.
Love it when rick do experiments on screen like he just discovered something new and not just pull a gadget out

I, personally, find it fascinating that Rick, the smartest being in the universe, when confronted with such a simple task as switching two boxes. Still just lifts them up and places them down the same way, the first time.

it's kind of like these episodes of represent the pandemic because now they're trapped without any portals so every episode has to follow the next it's like they're forced to do Canon which is an interesting and nice Twist on things because this shows usually based in random Adventures because of the portal gun so this season's been a nice change of pace
The reason we love Jerry
Is because Morty is no longer an innocent vessel to see the world Rick sees. Rick and Morty are now on the same page after enough adventures together, but Jerry is still what season 1 Morty was.

By putting Jerry in Morty's place, we get the Genius mad scientist + naive normie dynamic that we originally had in the pilot.
Rick needs to get a new Morty. The one he's got had become too psychotic and co-dependent.

Every episode hits different knowing he's with Rick Prime's family from the beginning. It shows why he is more miserable in the first few episodes. He gets better once he gets to the new family. He even starts to like the switched Jerry as well. Beth learns to love switched Jerry and he loves new Beth. Watching everything over knowing the truth is a morty mind blower.
He's not. He's wit' Rick Prime's Morty, tha only reason he ev'n cares 'bout tha family is 'cuz Morty does.
