Morrissey Mullen, what a great band and a proving ground for so many talented musicians and singers, inc Carol Kenyon and Tessa Niles. Saw them first with Tony Beard, John McKenzie, Chris Fletcher and John Critchinson at the Half Moon, Production Village, Clay Pigeon, Roundhouse - they were everywhere in 81-2. Neal Wilkinson and Joe Hubbard were another phenomenal rhythm section. Love Neal's playing on that Al Jarreau track here.

Although I never had formal tuition from Dick Morrissey, I learned a great deal about music from him - usually over a pint of Guinness. This incarnation of MM has to be one of the best, with Pete Jacobsen on keyboards and Noel McCalla on vocals.. I love this version of Mercy Mercy Mercy. Truly great! Sadly, Dick and Pete are no longer with us, but their legacy lives on. God bless you guys - rest in peace.

There is sadly too little surviving film of Dick Morrissey in his heyday. In the late 1960s, when I shared a flat in Putney, we would go to the Richmond Palm Court on a Sunday lunchtime and listen to Dick Morrisey, backed by the Ed Faultless Trio. It is a long time ago but I recall Ed Faultless as a huge (well let's say very fat) man who seemed to merge into his equally huge double-bass - he was a fine player, nonetheless. Meanwhile, as we supped our pints of Guinness, Dick Morrissey would be off, especially after the break when the rest of them could no longer keep up with his virtuoso playing.
Happy days - and what a really fine player he was.

Used to see them every week at The Half Moon for a couple of years. Such a small venue in the bar on the left and such a small stage.
All instrumental in the first half, then McCalla would come out for the second half. Just amazing nights at 17 with friends what a band.
