This was SO interesting! I meant to tell you after the first video that I love the low-tech approach. It also is fun to hear the antics of your cat in the background. I look forward to the next episode!

Another winner. A great variety of Waldens presented...something for everyone. Myself? I prefer Princeton Editions of anything Thoreau - if available in paperback.

That 1939 edition with wood engravings is beautiful! I have "Thoreau: Walden and Other Writings" copyright 1962. It's a plain paperback that I bought at Ben Franklin's bookstore in 1968. But it includes "Civil Disobedience" and "Life Without Principle" as well as selections from "A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers," "Cape Cod," " The Maine Woods," and the "Journal."

When I was teaching high-school history, it was a joy to see how engaged my students were when we read and discussed Civil Disobedience. Gave them excerpts from Walden to read, as well. It bugged me that Walden was not part of their English curriculum.

Super program, Corinne! I own editions by Scot Miller, Jeff Cramer, and Walter Harding. I also have a copy of one with essays by E.B. White and Max Lerner, and one by Edwin Way Teale which includes 142 black and white photos. And now I'm looking forward to reading the annotations by Corinne H. Smith when they are published!

Thanks, Luella! I've never seen the other copies you talk about. Maybe you can show them to me someday. They sound great. :-)

The sound of kitty playing in the background is delightful!

As soon as I start talking, she starts batting her toys all around. It's as if she knows it's time for ALL of us to perform.

Great tutorial. Love hearing Miss Jingles in the background. I say she should stay!

A couple other recommendations: Listening to an audio book of Walden while on a long drive, or listening to Henry's essay Walking while on a long walk or hike. There are many versions out there of both. I listened to a reading of Walden from LibriVox that was good. There are lots of downloadable free versions of both Walden and Walking out there. Just choose a reader whose voice does not distract from the text.

In re: pre-Google research ... this is certainly something I think about. I wrote my dissertation in the late 1980s - early 1990s, and it covered a lot of really obscure stuff. I am sitting here wondering how I did it!

Research took a lot longer then, Glenn. And it also took a whole 'nuther set of skills. Patience was one of them. :-)
