The trick to setup and use a local account during the Windows install process is to NOT connect to WiFi or internet. Then you will have an option to go through the 'Limited' setup process.
This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for right now. I had this full experience a while back, but I think something went wrong and I ended up going back to Steam. I'm ready to go the Playnite route again, since I honestly loved it the last time, so this comes at the perfect time.
If you have a keyboard connected, hit Shift F10 when you get to the 'sign into wifi' screen (which is *before* you sign into your microsoft account). Then type `taskmgr` and hit enter. Then open up background processes, find Network Connection Flow, and end the task. It'll take you past the sign into wifi and sign into microsoft account screens.
So, I want to install Celeste’s automated drivers install thing, but I’ve already installed the basic drivers for Windows that were on Steams website. So my question is, do I have to get rid of the drivers that are already there before I run the auto installer? Or will they just overwrite them?
I would love if Steam deck tools had gyro as an option for x360 so we could use it with any game. Alot easier to use than Handheld Companion but without gyro its a no go. Thanks for the guide

I've tried it and I'm quite happy with it, but I'm having problems with e.g. the CEMU emulator which, after pressing the STEAM key, only shows the main menu and not the sub-menu where you can change controls, close, etc (as well as sending CEMU into the background which can only be called with alt+tab).
So second video will be the setup of Playnite as a frontend instead of Steam. I just find it better and don't want to rely on Steam for everything. Playnite will house all of our games, emulators, everything.

Whenever I stream because of the default 16:10 deck ratio on my tv there are black borders when viewing on my tv. Any idea how to make it full screen on both the deck and when viewing on tv?

When I reboot I get the following message about RivaTuner: "Direct3D9 components cannot be hooked right now. It is stonrly recommended to restart application"....any idea how to fix that?....pops up every boot up.
I noticed that you don't actually have to hold on to the plus button after pressing the power button. Releasing both buttons after pressing them should still load to the boot menu.
some corrections: 1) it does not improve display's scaling 2) none of the drivers are made from the community, they are all from valve and windows update.

Diablo 4 was a pain on steamos. I installed beta. Now I have bought nonbeta, everything went wrong. End up trying to fix it for 3 hours. Somehow battlenet folder dissappears somewhere after first launch. So I had to reinstall battlenet and diablo in custom folders just to have control if something goes wrong. So yeah steamos is good as long as you just install compatible games bought on steam. But everything else is so much more painful. In windows everything is clear and you can find things easily. But steamos has a painful path and folder system that is not user friendly at all. This video just showed how advanced all refresh rates became and easy to use, now I am tempted to try windows again, because few months ago steal deck tools was buggy and controls was fucked up.
One tip, when doing Autologin. I kept getting invalid username/pass when trying to run the program with a 4 digit number password. When I switched my password to "letters and numbers" it worked for me
Win 10 has the advtange of being able to play certain anti cheat games like FIFA and Valorant. I prefer Win 11 as I find it's more suited for this device.

I wouldn't dream about installing or using windows on anything. But I love the fact that there is nothing stopping you, even though it's not a supported use case.
Yeah it's awesome that Valve continues support with drivers etc. In all honesty, I wouldn't have the Deck if it didn't have Windows, so it's a great thing that Valve made it easy to have choices.

Oh I'm surrounded by handhelds LOL kind of goes with the channel name, Linux, Android, Windows, everything. I use different ones for different use cases, like my RG35XX for portable on the go, RG405M for PS1/N64 at home and on the go and my Steam Deck for everything else. We'll see where the ROG Ally fits in when I get it. I actually don't prefer the Deck for a lot, it just happens to be the best valued Windows handheld right now and so it's the defacto choice for GC/Wii/PS2 and above + PC Games.

I did the full setup. Afterwards when I played anything on my deck it doesn't seem to get as loud as it used to before the setup. Even when the sound is turned up to the max. Was the max sound output decreased?
The script installs the equalizer APO, that could be it. If you check the description for the bald sealion website, might say how to uninstall that equalizer.
Is there a way to disable the DS4 controller option completely? I don't want to have to cycle through it every time I want to enable / disable the 360 gamepad mode (which is all I use).
As of a month ago, you can't. Slightly annoying for new games you play to have that extra option, but power control saves a per app profile so thankfully only have to swap once per game.
Can Steam Deck do bypass charging on Windows like on SteamOS? I mainly use my Steam Deck docked most of the time and this is my main concern running Windows on Steam Deck.

Do we need to change anything related to power and battery settings or just leave it all on default? I recently upgraded my SSD from 64gb to 512gb and installed Win 11 PRO to dual boot so I can play some anti-cheat games like Destiny 2 or mod others like the newer NFS. I used a debloater to make it a better experience but for some reason most games are still very unstable on Win 11 while they run perfectly fine on SteamOS. I'll try some of the steps from this video and hopefully It will fix most of my issues. For example, Destiny 2 runs great on 50-60 FPS for the first few ~20 min and then starts stuttering a lot and takes ages to load activities which got me suspended couple of times. I find it bizarre since there are a lot of videos of people playing it on Steam Deck without any problems.

I would be happy to use windows on steam deck, but I tried to install it and with the same graphic settings the games run much worse than on steamos. I do not understand why. The fps are really low with windows

I try Windows 11 on my SteamDeck and it suck !! if your plan is to play on windows 11... forget it ! less FPS, more power consomption, and drivers issues !!
i did this but found out windows is no way bug free on gaming handheld. so i reverse back to steam os. now i think chimera os on aya neo would be the best of two worlds. definitely leave windows

I haven't come across any OS specific issues. Win 10 is better for the few games that work there (Fifa, Valorant etc.), but otherwise, Win 11 is a better choice in my opinion.
Putting windows on my steam deck was a waste of time. After going through that process, you can't go back to its original settings. Might as buy a gaming laptop, they'll do all this + more.

It's not too bad. It's really just install Windows > Run script. But it's not a plug and play experience for sure.

Why do you delete standard resolutions in CRU? No one of other tutorials do that...but you say "that's important". Why?

What error? And those are normal, I just removed them from my desktop.

I saw an option if you right click the tray icon. You can disable DS4. If that still helps you out

11 has been super stable, but stick with 10 if you have it! No real reason to upgrade. Next video on Playnite etc will be out on Friday, might help!

Nothing for power and battery and your experience is one of the reasons I do not like debloaters. They just cause more issues than they're worth.

Bruh. All you need to do is get the Handheld Companion program for Windows. It will fix all your issues with onscreen keyboard and controller stuff.

@@JoeysRetroHandheldsI did actually set up as per your video and was working great, but after playing a game and exiting (e.g. COD Infinite warfare) the SD controls are no longer functioning to control windows (trackpads and triggers). Also custom resolutions don't seem to work (only given 1280x800 in game options), and can you possibly give any insight in how to get FSR working? Cheers :)
I try Windows 11 on my SteamDeck and it suck !! if your plan is to play on windows 11... forget it ! less FPS, more power consomption, and drivers issues !!
i did this but found out windows is no way bug free on gaming handheld.
so i reverse back to steam os.
now i think chimera os on aya neo would be the best of two worlds. definitely leave windows
I had way less issues Windows side than I ever did Steam side. But it's awesome we all have options.

For me Windows 10 is still better to install in Steam Deck compared to Windows 11 since I saw some issues when using Win 11 but not in Win 10
I haven't come across any OS specific issues. Win 10 is better for the few games that work there (Fifa, Valorant etc.), but otherwise, Win 11 is a better choice in my opinion.

Putting windows on my steam deck was a waste of time. After going through that process, you can't go back to its original settings. Might as buy a gaming laptop, they'll do all this + more.
