Fellow S4 B8 owner from brisbane with dual pulley, TB upgrade, heat exchanger etc. I have a full custom exhaust. The shop suggested the X pipe join be closer to the engine (rather than the rear), unlike the systems you can buy online. And it sounds amazing. I also have a valved muffler, so its super loud when I want it to be, but i can also quiet it right down when I want to.
Total cost was $2500AUD installed. Sounds amazing. I can sound you sound clips if you'd like

Appreciate these videos! Thank you for posting the good and the bad! I will use your vids to do my own Stage 2 IE. In the spirit of sharing...I have a '17 S5 - Cab 3.0 TFSI and ended up doing a "frankinexhaust" to solve the same issues. In short, highflow cats, IE downpipes that I had an exhaust shop chop down and weld on high-flow long-tube resonators, leading to a flowmaster resonated x-pipe to flowmaster super 40's all done in 2.5" diameter piping mandrel bent with slightly upsized T-304 dual exits each side. Looks very close to stock but just a little better IMHO and was WAY cheaper than the AEW's, Borla's, Miltek, etc., and is full stainless, and sounds really very nice - NO rasp, low rumble at idle (for a V6 lol) and nice cruising sound that OPENS UP and sounds wicked when you get on it. Please keep the videos coming!

  • @shiftya4

A resonator and a quality muffler is a must in almost any street exhaust to cancel out some of those nasty frequencies in my opinion. X or H pipe can help to depending on the engine, firing order, pipe diameter etc. The issue with cars that use a super charger vs a turbo is with a turbocharger a lot of the sound is muted or muffled as it passed through the turbine allowing cars with this set up to get away with less sound suppression. But anyways most of you guys already know this. Just found the channel. Good stuff keep it up brother.

Feel your pain. I've been through the exact same issue. BIG front mufflers are key! That is what kills the rasp, x-pipe helps nicen the sound but won't kill the rasp completely. Don't put cats down stream, 2 reasons, 1 your CEL will be on, your O2 sensors want the heat from the factory location. 2 you will lose real-estate for those BIG mufflers.
My final config is highflow metal cats from Germany. I'll reply with the brand. They are the only ones that will cope with the heat. 6in 2.5 magnaflows where the factory resonators where. Then x-pipe. Before rear wheels 2x 4in 2.5 magnaflows. Boxes are rear are RS5. Hope this helps! Cost me over 7k sort out! I see your in Melbourne, try Performance Exhaust, great shop.

For the oxygen sensor codes put extensions that screw into the 02 holes then the 02 sensors after the extensions and that should fix your codes, as for catalytic converters you getting them put under the car should fix the rasp and smell, thats why jh motorsports sells a downpipe kit with cats at the bottom, also the downpipes if you can get them moddified as a xpipe will fix the rasp even more.

Driving with an AWE touring exhaust that was so annoying for the last 6 years and I finally switched the middel muffler to stock and the sound is so much better and not as loud with a deeper low sound instead of constant horrible drone. Have a 455hp tune. Awe sends vibrations through the car that you feel in the seat each time you accelerate.

I have a 2013 A6 with the 3.0t and stock they are about 330HP and the stage 2 tune installed by a local shop is just under $1500 and they said it will put it around 440HP at the crank. if I do intake, which I just ordered an injen intake, and custom exhaust setup that will add even more power. so like literally I will be in it under $2k and it will be plenty powerful so don't know why you numbers are so high for your upgrades? the shop said if I did the stage 3 with the dual pulley and injectors and all that crap it was like $4k but doesn't take me over 500HP so why bother. stick with the stage 2 and you will be able to destroy a lot of cars on the street or freeway with that 450HP with the supercharger and AWD. : )

  • @Bytrl
    @Bytrl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

So my plan for exhaust is something I haven't seen done, and don't know if it'll work. I plan on replacing both resonators on the downpipes with 12 inch vibrant bottle resonators, and replacing my mid muffler with a single 2 1/2 inch vibrant ultra quiet resonator, a couple 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 y pipes, and a custom bent 2 1/2 s pipe to meet the resonator from the downpipes. The ultra quiet resonator will serve as the x pipe in place of the mid muffler. Should be louder, but be a grunty sort of loud, not a raspy one. Replacing the downpipe resonators with slightly longer vibrants serves 2 purposes. 1: i have a nasty rattle on decel from one of em when I'm next to medians, and 2: they will offer more dampening. My end result should be damn near oem decibel ranges, with more throaty low end grunt. I hate rasp, and irritatingly high pitched exhausts. My fear is restricting the exhaust going to a single 2 1/2 inch pipe in some sections when the sum oem diameter of both pipes is 4 1/2 inches. I know from past experience a 2 1/2 inch exhaust is good for 400ish before becoming a bottleneck, but an engineers take on this platform and idea would be awesome if there are any here to chime in. I just want to know if I risk suffocating the motor or overheating the cats from back pressure if I reduce 2x 2 1/4 pipes down to 1x 2 1/2 pipe in the center, and than back out to 2x 2 1/4 pipes to the rear mufflers.

I've been through this. One cat failed and I had the other gutted. Didn't go test pipe as hollowed OEM cats provide some resonance damping. I've had some magnaflow 59906 cats fabricated in to a drop-in replacement for the centre box (Milltek race exhaust) after which the drone went from acceptable to teeth-rattling levels!
Cheapest fix would be a "quarter wave resonator" or even better "helmholtz resonator" these can be easily calculated online and fabricated cheaply. Biggest problem is finding the space under the S4 as it's already quite tight.
The drone on these cars is mostly around 115hz - there's a smaller spike around 140hz. Knowing that, now you can tune out those frequencies with a tuned resonator either in traditional "silencer box" size form, or by making one of the 2 I mention above.

  • @mephistohate

i have an A6 C7 3.0T, most stuff i read people were removing the middle muffler box, had a local exhaust guy do the first work and instead of that he removed the front resonators and the rear mufflers..... sounded like shit, really loud and had a fluttery leaky noise on deceleration. Decided just to take it to another place where they replaced the central muffler with an oval one and fitted two round mufflers before the tips. now it sounds beefy, almost v8 like at times and paired with the cold air intake that supercharger whine just tops it all off

It's common knowledge on any car running test pipes or cat delete it's going to get and if you done research you would have noticed that this is common for these cars and it gets raspy. If that note you've also would have noticed that most people get magnaflow 11385 or the borla x pipes. That kills a lot of the rasp. I just bought My s5 3.0T and this is the reason why I wont go further than Single Pulley.

Single pulley is still a great increase. It’s probably the most noticeable in power.

Lol, jhm test pipes, and then JHM high flow catted downpipes will fix all of this and make your car sound amazing. Bruh.

Might as well buy a Mustang, much cheaper and easier to upgrade and make big power than the Audi.

Nah, Audi is far superior in driving performance and experience! Not to mention all wheel drive, interior and exterior is just so much better then a mustang. Some people just have different experiences, just have to find the right setup and shouldn’t have any problems with a S4 at all. The 3.0 is one of the best engines Audi has made and it’s pretty bulletproof. Trust me on this, I traded my new mustang for a new S4, it’s night and day on and overall car and experience!
