Very interesting. 20 years ago I took a tour of the catacombs outside Rome and IIRC a lot of it was illuminated by what appeared to be the molded lamps you show in the beginning. We bought one as a souvenir. I never realized they were made that way.
Isn't it cool how ancient pottery remains are actual casts of the hands that made them centuries ago? I find the occasional fingerprint left behind really exciting. In this design, the whole finger is being cast for posterity.
