    Prince Albert's brooch has always been a favorite of mine. Part of the mystique of the piece is that it was supposedly owned by his mother. She was thrown out of the family for having a single affair at a time when her husband had multiple mistresses. The loss of his mother a few years later meant he had an understanding of Victoria's loss of her father while still very young. Albert actually designed an entire set of jewelry to match the brooch.
    Although Victoria didn't visibly wear it after Albert's death, in a letter to her daughter Victoria, who married the future king of Prussia, she admitted to wearing it on her undergarments close to her heart. Initially, it was to be buried with her, but at the urging of her daughter Beatrice, she made it a part of the Royal Jewelry.

      You can Google that Info. There must be another video by someone else on all that. I personally have a large hardcover book on the Royal Jewels that lists all of that. As I understand it, it was Queen Mary who decided to actually catalog all of the Royal Jewels in the vault. Whenever the late Queen would choose something to wear for an event, she would try to match the color of gemstones to her dress. If she was wearing a Green dress/ gown for example, she might choose Emeralds to match it. They also always keep the original card with the set to describe who gave it to them. Also another one to say when the set of jewelry was worn last, so they knew to rotate the colors of jewelry worn. I think eBay also might still sell the books on the Royal Jewels.😉

      There is an inventory of all jewelry of the Crown, and whether it is personally owned or part of the Royal collection. Most of the tiaras are not owned personally but can be loaned to women in the Royal Family or marrying into the family. Except for personal gifts between spouses or family, most pieces end up in the Royal Jewelry. That includes the brooches containing parts of the Cullenden diamond, and gifts to the Crown by other countries.
      Most female members of the Royals can borrow (with the Soveriegn's permission) these jewels.
      As for Queen Elizabeth II's jewelry, she normally worked with her personal assistant and sometimes the designers of her clothes and hats to choose what to wear. She had her favorite pieces, of course, but tried to vary her jewelry from day to day. If I am remembering correctly, she would first ask for a specific color, and then her personal assistant would give her various options. The queen would then go through the jewelry list and choose what she wanted to go with the outfit she selected.
      It was good to be the Queen!
      It burns me to see Camilla wear any of the Royal jewels. She doesn't do anything for them! QEII had beauty and wonderful posture while younger, but even as she aged, she had grace and class. Camilla doesn't.

      Charlotte should have the sapphire brooch

    • @MSjackiesaunders
      @MSjackiesaunders 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DeborahRunnells It depends on which brooch you are talking about. Most of these are Royal Jewelry that is not passed to any one person but remain a Royal Trust. Anyone in the immediate family can request use of a piece, but it has to be approved by the Sovereign. Charlotte will have use of pieces when she is old enough to wear such jewels. The Royal Jewelry cannot be passed down to any one member of the family. Things that were private gifts or purchases of a member of the family can be passed down (bequeathed is the formal term) to whoever they want to have it.
      It will also depend on what her taste is. I could see her requesting the use of the sapphire snowfake brooch, but many are not to modern tastes.

      HM Queen Camilla is an inspiration. She was with HM King Charles lll way back in the beginning and has fiercely defended him whilst having to put up with undeserved ridicule. None of us will ever know what machinations went on behind the scenes that forced the then Prince of Wales and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, into their ill-fated marriage, yet it was Camilla who bore the brunt of scorn and shame when that marriage failed. HM The Queen has proven herself to be a tireless supporter of the Royal Family and a staunch ally of HM The King.
      Camilla deserves to be absolutely covered in brooches!

    There are two forms of collection 1 is that of the collection left to the Crown passed to each monarch, but the pieces can be sold, and 2 is the collection of the monarch as sovereign they own a lot more people think. The Crown Estate is personally owned by the sovereign until the death, able to sell. Now I knew this as if you own something you can it was only the other day reading something. I took a picture of what I was reading. This will help me later. I don't think there's any copy, right?

    • @MSjackiesaunders
      @MSjackiesaunders 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@martinisherwood2854 The pieces in your first category cannot be sold, broken down or destroyed in any manner without the specific permission of the Sovereign in conjunction with Parliament. They are a part of a Royal Trust for the British people. The vast majority of the jewelry the public is used to seeing are a part of this Trust. The Flower Basket brooch is an exception to that, as it is in your category 2, those pieces that were private gifts and which the owner can bequeath to anyone they want to have it.
      Crown estates are also a part of a Trust. Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace are among those in the Trust. Balmoral is (or at least was) privately owned by Queen Victoria as well as Osborne House. They are bequeathed to the Sovereign. Sandringham is one of the few privately owned estates. What I believe you are talking about are the estates granted to the grantee for life. Andrew is not covered by that for his use of Royal Lodge. After he stepped into too many scandals, he was granted use of it for 75 years for a rental fee.

      @MSjackiesaunders 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@martinisherwood2854 But I will agree with you on one point...they own (through trusts or outright purchase) a whole heck of a lot of, well, everything!

    • @ellenleeschwartz-

      The Crown Estate jewels cannot be sold. Jewels bequeathed to The Crown get passed from sovereign to sovereign. They are never sold. Put in the vaults and not seen, yes. Personal jewelry of members of the royal family can, and has been, sold. Most notably, the collection of HRH The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowden. Upon her death, she left her jewels to her children, who sold the bulk of them to pay the inheritance tax, including The Poltimore Tiara. Those jewels still in The Princess Margaret’s collection loaned to her by The Queen were returned to The Crown.

    Every time I see Camilla wearing anything the Queen wore, it feels like such a slap in the face to the Queen, and to Diana, she is just a cheap looking mistress that some how slithered into a weak man's heart.. it's all just so sad and disrespectful to two beautiful and powerful women. Hopefully, Charles and Camilla will be a short-lived chapter of the Windsor dynasty.

  • @helenannviccora7743

    I'm sorry, but I find Camilla wearing any of the late queens jewelry offensive. These jewels should be divided by Catherine Princess of Wales, Sophie Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Princess Royal Princess Anne.

    Why is Victorias sapphire brooch broken? The sapphire is crushed???? It looks horrible.

    • @MSjackiesaunders
      @MSjackiesaunders 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @kristibbradshaw No, if you are talking about Albert's gift, it isn't crushed, it is scratched. It dates back to at least the early 1800s, possibly older. Victoria wore it all the time, and other Queens wore it frequently. Sapphires, while relatively hard, are still easily scratched. If not stored properly, they can be scratched by other sapphires, rubies, and diamonds. Emeralds are even softer.
      I believe, though the sources are few, that it had been scheduled for a jewelry expert to recut the facets to repair it, but the Queen (not sure which one) decided it was more valuable in its original state. Recutting the stone would make it smaller and would risk damaging it further. It would also mean redoing the setting.
