@Luis Cummins you gotta be born in the 70s to enjoy the 90s. Not 80s . If your born 1989. You'd hardly experience the 90s in its full form. You gotta be in your 20s or 30s to truly experience . Every generation romanticizes a decade or two in the past. 80s and 90s were violent af, you wouldn't fit in lol

Thank you for sharing this history film. I grew up in Seabrook/Clear Lake and went to Ed White Elementary. We would go eat at Wyatt's Cafeteria in Pasadena, Clifton By the Sea in Bacliff, Hillman's Seafood south of Kemah. My dad worked at NASA. Remember the oil boom...and the Houston Oilers and Princess Burgers...and the old Kipps Big Boy restaurant at the south loop GulfGate mall and also on Westheimer? The Zoo was free to get in. Almeda Mall was the place to shop. My Papaw owned K-Dog channel 26 before it was bought out by KRITV. We used to go to his cattle ranch in Columbus. It was called Schindler's Ranch. Astroworld, and the Rodeo was so much fun back in those days. Grandma lived in River Oaks on Del Monte. She was friends with Ima Hogg and a Daughter of the Republic of Texas. I guess Houston was a hot mess back then and now it's so crowded. Freeways are a sea of people. It's a bigger hot mess now. HISD has hired so many non certified teachers for Elementary grade. I'm way north near the Canadian border. It's cold up here but it's not so violent and crime ridden. I have a sweeter memory of how Texas used to be.

My family settled here in Bellaire in 1972, from Buffalo, NY. We left for Beaumont in 1974, but returned here in 1976, eventually relocating to northwest in March 1978, where our parents stayed for next 23 years. I moved out to Southern California in July 1989, although I frequently visit H-town since 1993.
The sheriff's patches & badges were changed in 1990 and reads: "Sheriff - Pride of Texas: Harris County", issued by what is now the HCSO.

Houston and the surrounding communities are in my blood and it's hard to believe how much I miss the place. My family & I moved up to the hill country back in the early 2000s and yes, the Austin area is much more beautiful & clean, but it isn't home. How I yearn to smell those muddy bayous & the salt water of West Bay! Sigh.....

The average property tax bill today for a home in Harris County is around or close to $5,000.00 dollars. That’s robbery. Good thing I lived with my Mom who had a huge tax exemption. Her tax rates locked in over half a century ago. Any and all new neighbors were extremely jealous and very hateful. When getting downtown I tried telling them the cops beat me up while handcuffed and the cops said I was lying and my injuries was because I ran from them and when they caught me I tripped and fell into a ditch🤣. I can laugh about it now and am glad they have body cams now to help prevent police brutality. No. Houston police during the 1970’s consisted solely of professionals, who worked long hard hours, handled business w/ respect & integrity, carried out dangerous duties to protect the public, and acted as positive role models & inspiration to youth across the country. They don’t need to be pestered with these childish remarks & nonsense accusations. Have a nice day.
