@Peter Evans Haha, I thought you were talking about cops, until I saw what you were responding about. Honestly... though... the best teachers I've had were all unconventional that saw the world from an unusual perspective, and they were very good at questioning what many took for granted.
@Peter Evans Actually, I found teachers that followed curriculum were often uninspiring, and had nothing much to teach of value. But they would be shunned in their department as the strange ones. Automatons don't make a great thinker. They're good at producing robots. School/education at its best would equip and empower a person to live well. Anything short is denying a person from teaching their full potential.
Holy SHIT. I love the mountain man, and totally expected him to lose. I've met dudes like him though, and they're tougher than nails. That was insane. One hitter quitter.
There's only one way to punch anything that hard without significant training, and that's to have naturally good punching mechanics. That knockout strike was virtually a textbook hapkido strike, and probably how boxers get taught to throw overhand strikes. Perfect, tight shoulder roll forward that whips the arm and hand over the top, making impact at full extension in a downward direction, tightly closed fist, and turning the thumb down towards the ground after impact. They are devastating strikes. I was at a bar once and a bunch of big dudes (210-260lbs) were wailing on one of those boxing games that measures how hard you punch. The machine maxes out at 1000. 1000 what? Who knows. They had pushed the high score up to 790. They were at this for about 20 minutes taking turns. When they were done I went over and fed a coin in, hit it once and got 862 at a weight of around 195lbs. Owner comes out of his office and buys me a drink and says he'd never heard anyone hit the machine that hard in the 6 years he had it. Mechanics make ALL the difference. The look one of the dudes gave me when he walked over to see the score was of disbelief, but also respect.
Construction muscle. It's deceiving. It's highly functional, compared to rigid muscle put on at a gym. Lots of fast twitch development from natural environments.
Awesome to see Bare Knuckle Fighting getting the recognition it deserves! I personally served time with Reggie Barnett Jr. and to see him pursuing his dreams that he always said he was going to do is awesome! Awesome work VICE on this!
@Tom Silverheart That's a judgement call based on your limited viewing of actual hockey fights while also completely missing the point. I don't think the current NHL is a good representation of bare-knuckle boxing on the ice. However, if you watch some of the more "backyard" or even some of the lower pro leagues under NHL, there is still a lot of the goon aspect involved. You need only to look to the past and see there were countless fights in the 80's that resulted in blood baths. These men often trained in formal boxing to keep up with their skills on the ice. (Ray Emery - Goaltender was a proficient boxer, there's COUNTLESS others, but I won't go into a list) Fighting on the ice is very different from in the ring too, you just got done playing a hard working shift, your coach asks you to step in, you get in a scrum to help get your teams motivation back and draw the energy from the crowd to hopefully make a nice turn for your team. Then you have to play out the rest of the game after. So to say its only 10-15 seconds is like excluding the swimming and biking a triathlon runner just did and say well, it doesn't count cause you only ran half of what normal runners run. Most of the time, you're right, they are missing, glancing, punching helmets, or having an intense hugging match - but that's street fighting though. However, if you watch some of the actual fights on a hockey rink, they are brutal and the only "real" bare knuckle fight you can pay to watch in today's modern age. To me, this bare-knuckle boxing gave a nod of respect towards one of the only modern sports to incorporate bare knuckle fights in the game and allow it as a tactic to let you change the tide of the game. It's sad that the NHL has turned into a wussy sport. I like to compare it from full contact football to flag football. Now a days, the NHL is just a shell of what it's former league once was - the grit is no longer there and they prefer Skill over Will.
fooglez I’m not that old but I remember back in the day how me and my friends would beat he shit out of each other on the rink back in Sweden and it was awesome. I have to admit that it’s nowhere close to actual boxing and MMA and when it comes to commercial hockey like the NHL it’s horrible and when it’s actually happening during matches it gets broken up quickly as hell. Wish it was like back in the day and perhaps even worse.
lol @ comparing this to hockey.... I'd rather watch men REALLY fight than play a sport where men can't even play a game without being thrown into a penalty box or throwing fists. Either watch sports or watch fighting. They don't go together and they honestly contradict the values of playing sports.
… but that is exactly what happened. UFC when it first came out had no weight class and one martial art would go agaisnt anything else. And it was bare knuckle. So, this person's TH-cam account doesn't know what he's talking about. Ya'll forgotten about Hoyce Gracie and Shamrock already? They were BARE KNUCKLE in 1995. EVERYONE was bare knuckle back then! So VICE needs to get it together. Maybe its in the words "AMERICAS" & "FIRST" & "CHAMPIONSHIP". But UFC started as bare knuckle and classless and there was no weight class either. Just BRAWLERS vs BRAWLERS, regardless if you were ju jitsu, taekwondo, boxer, street fighter, … it didn't matter what you were. If you thought you were a FIGHTER and you wanted some, you came and got some! I've seen skinny guys fight big muscle moutains. I seen short guys fight tall guys. I've seem 3rd degree black belts fight street fighters. It was far more "entertaining" back in its early days. Then it became popularized and managed and boring.
@@williamtell2496 I know. I've had 9 fights in my life. All older, all bigger (cause my sister is older, and her boyfriends are older than her, so, to get with the girl you have to be cool with the little brother - all my friends are OLDER than I am) I've never lost a fight. That is why I say someones ability to fight - they are BORN with it. It's like singing. Either you are BORN with the skill, or you're not. It comes natural … like its always been there. So, yeah, I get it. There are no rules outside the squared circle.

Still, I wouldn't change jack shit even if I could... all of my past made me who I am today
Prevents cuts somewhat too. Sure in mma ppl get cut with elbows and knees often but in bare knuckle every punch that lands good has a chance to slice you open
@Peter Evans actually yes it as as without gloves you can't punch to your maximum power without a risk of injury so usually people don't punch their hardest
Back when bare knuckle boxing was the normal you would see less brain damage because boxers wouldn’t punch full power because they would be scared of breaking their hands. The longest boxing match ever lasted over 50 rounds and only ended when both fighters gave out of exhaustion. With bare knuckle boxing less knockouts happened and allowed better and longer fights. The reason why bare knuckle boxing is illegal is because it opens more cuts and blood is scary to some people.
Think the most important thing here is to have health regulations around HIV ect. If every match includes blood, there has to be some systems in place to protect fighters who are and aren't HIV positive.
His point was exactly to NOT let that happen. If you don't think about the risk of that happening, it will eventually, so it was a good suggestion from Reclusive Eagle.
The mountain man KO was the best damn one punch and done I have ever seen in Any of the combat sports. It was amazing he faked a bit with his left and the other guy took the bait then BOOM WENT THE DYNAMITE!! The biggest and probably one of the hardest haymakers ever! Fantastic!
There is a huge misconception about this, boxing gloves are to protect the wearer not the receiver. My grandfather was a bare knuckle boxer in the Royal Navy, they did it for sport and they were told not to do it because they kept breaking their fingers and hands and this makes you useless on board a ship.
thank you for the free wisdom sun tzu You really sound smart and educated on the topic, thank god your grandfather was a bare knuckle boxer in the Royal Navy
Kml Salapata It may cause more pain because the knuckle comes to a sort of point, but it does not do more damage to the skin or bones of the head than a punch with a glove would do.
Kml Salapata sure they do but it’s not the single bombs that give you brain damage it’s sustained and full force head shots that boxing gloves and wraps allow you to throw that gives boxers brain damage.
If it's true that bare knuckles reduce chances of brain damage then that's interesting...but is there evidence of that? Also why would you want to take part in a sport where you break your hands (aside from maybe reducing your brain damage potential...but then why not just choose another sport or hobby). Way to go violence cool dudes lets just promote violence. Let's bring back the colosseum and animal baiting...

In old Rome you would have two benches brought together end-to-end. The combatants were given special gloves designed the inflict damage. They were secured in place. The pummeling would continue until one man was dead. I learned about this when reading about a champion in this sport. Rome loved it's blood sports.

The owner says in the doc how he wants the event to be talked in the social media like "did you see that bareknuckle fight last night" so I feel like this was set up. The main event guy gets knocked out in one hit is the kind of opening you'd want for your league to build hype.

Thing is while his head movement and footwork would still be extremely effective, you have to swing differently in bareknuckle than in boxing. The 12oz glove exists to protect your hands, not the other guy's head, which is why you see knockouts like that in Boxing where dudes just get fucking SOCKED. Hitting the same places you do in boxing in bareknuckle would destroy your fingerbones and wrists. That said, Mike would still a moooonster in bareknuckle, but he'd have to fight differently.

Honestly, knees and elbows to the head is more devastating than a bare knuckle...
Honestly it feels terrible but bare knuckle fighters looks terrible have you seen lobov.

Loollll got that damn right
THEY HOSTED IT IN A HOCKEY RINK.
A HOCKEY RINK WHERE MEN FIGHT BARE KNUCKLE ON ICE.
LEGENDARY.
(Ray Emery - Goaltender was a proficient boxer, there's COUNTLESS others, but I won't go into a list)
Fighting on the ice is very different from in the ring too, you just got done playing a hard working shift, your coach asks you to step in, you get in a scrum to help get your teams motivation back and draw the energy from the crowd to hopefully make a nice turn for your team.
@@zedmoeIt mades a great sport trash...I love hockey...youth hockey where there is no fighting
fooglez I’m not that old but I remember back in the day how me and my friends would beat he shit out of each other on the rink back in Sweden and it was awesome.

"So why not make it safer and regulate it?"
"So we found this guy that can punch over 1700 pounds."

That one punch knockout was so hard I felt it through my phone
The gloves are meant to protect the fighters hand. Not his jaw.
Prevents cuts somewhat too. Sure in mma ppl get cut with elbows and knees often but in bare knuckle every punch that lands good has a chance to slice you open
True.
No rules in a street fight. Phuck all that gear.
Still safer to fight without gloves. So whats your point?
Exactly sir.

Lemme hit u with my bare hand. Bare hands does more damage
Kml Salapata
It may cause more pain because the knuckle comes to a sort of point, but it does not do more damage to the skin or bones of the head than a punch with a glove would do.

@@ianskinner1619 Where is this bar i live in Ontario and I'm down to catch some bar fights lmao
Same I live in Ontario which bar
Early UFC was bare knuckle you damn degenerates.
31:10 I thought the blue boobie was an endangered species?
Did no one see the blonde chick grab the brunette by the back of the head, hold and strike multiple times? She lost in my book. Boxing rules, bare knuckles. I don't think the ref knew what the hell was going on. Loved the big ole boy from Missouri, real humble attitude, bet he's a hell of a nice guy. Keep it up fellas, Come to upstate South Carolina. I'd buy tickets 💪
Yeah, it was hard to miss considering she did it every round. What a nasty women she is.
in their rules it says dirty boxing is legal. its not just boxing without gloves
As the One guy said, its a Street fight
When you have two plastic bags full of liquid in your chest and you go out into a fist fight.
in their rules they state that muay thai clinches are allowed so I guess its ok
This was fucking brilliant. Top stuff Vice, this is the kind the content people want to see.
Would love to see a follow up on Bare knuckle fighting in the future and David's organisation and how he's doing. He seems like such a great man. Fair play for him overcoming all the odds and all the people said it wouldn't happen.
There's just differents channels and contents to Vice. Just select the ones you want to see 😊
i agree. but it seemed like the fight between shewmaker and the military guy was staged and the super cut white guy took a dive. The video starts bullshit shipping about 30 seconds before the guy gets hit. It has to be bullshit because the saound was still going. and just as predicted there is a slight skip in the video right when the knock down punch lands. maybe im wrong..
5007Finest Exactly, we don't come to this channel to see videos about politics and their one sided viewpoint on policy. Please leave the politics to yourselves and keep this type of content coming!
Gaê
Look. At it nice wow
24:25 when they cut him off idk why I started laughing so hard lmaoo
Sounded like he was about to start bashing ufc. Perhaps vice didn't want the drama or people thinking they support his point of view on ufc.
"AhsedallumuddafuckersinzaUFC".
Because he looked like an over excited kid
That nobody wanted to listen
That poor bastard was hyped to the sky because he just won. And he dominated.
Lmfao. Completely didn't catch that lmao
I don’t see how this is worse than regular boxing considering that even with gloves, Canelo still broke Billy Joel’s orbital and nearly blinding him proving the stigma of gloves protecting the fighter is a load of bullshit.
Seeing as how Wyoming doesn't exist, this is obviously fake
Fancy Colt I don’t get it
It's All A DREAM........................
Wyoming is a real place idiot

If it goes well in upcoming years, David Feldman will be the new Dana White!
Hopefully not Dana White is a bit of a twat.
@@foundme454545 Would you rather sever brain damage? Bare Knuckle is far safer, in this sense.
You know why these fighters do that? Because they don't have the level for boxing or mma
Feldman was the bald guy near the end of this clip, not the main guy
I think he's the perfect personality for Bare knuckle boxing the other promoters should be worried👍👍
I would like to take this chance to thank the auto captions for letting me know all about *_barnacle flights_* .
LordCommander Bram lmao
"Watch when i get older. Now everybody thinks im crazy. Cuz im older" 😂
It's a safe sport you will break you're fist before you give someone brain damage you will hurt yourself more if you get it wrong .it is the purest of all the sports and looks more brutal than it actually is . I hope it replaces that dangerous glove boxing
But boxing gloves prevent the potentially very dangerous transfer of blood-borne pathogens that is so much more likely in bare knuckle boxing
@@edymcevoy3390 They need some sort of wraps that keep the fists closed (stopping gouging) and blood related issues as you mention.
@@edymcevoy3390 we have gloves that are strong enough to withstand splitting thus stopping any cross Contamination while still causing the boxer to pull his punches through fear of breaking his hands on his opponents skull they can also be designed to keep the thumb in to stop any gouging . .I also have never heard of any fatalities in bare knuckle boxing. I suspect that gloves were brought in more to speed up a knock out to fit in with advertising and tv
adio program schedules than the boxers safety
@@strangetimes3530 if you go into boxing history old associations said they put gloves on fighters so they would throw more punches so fans would come back
exactly.
Vice, at least give credit to Joe Rogan for his speech on bare knuckle boxing
nah dude, he's alt-right, remember?
@@clanderson0 alt right... pffft please
Sure, but have you tried DMT?
Everyone knows who that is.
Who?
Watch all the British and Irish bare knuckle boxers fly over to the USA and dominate the entire league 😂
Robert Treherne yeah baby!
Gypsy fighters
What? From the 1800's?
Robert Treherne Im a US resident but what about the Gypsy fighters?
Bahahaha, you run your yammer robert. I want you first. From a Scottish american

Women should be pretty ladys without violence. N just learn self defense instead of watching em fights like women breakdancing instead of salsa just ugly.

You’re hard
I love the fact that you only use your knuckle nothing more...thats awsome man...loved it.
THAT BIG GUY,
literally the "ONE PUNCH MAN"
bro that's dumb as hell
That dude actually scared me
That’s the type of guy that when you fight him, you don’t worry about hitting him, you worry about getting hit.
if he was one punch man the entire fight stage + the audience would be red.
kinda reminded me of butter bean!
Shewmaker is impressive. Only saw his KO in this fight didn't know that whole backstory about the punching meter
lol it's probably bullshit
Isn't bullshit. I'm from mo from the same area as this guy. He's crazy
He beat me for his first golden glove title. His cousin Jesse was insanely good. The Shewmakers can fight. Jesse's dad Damon was one of our coaches, that man was incredible too.
What a legend
@@joshkrahenbuhl5002 He looks like a great bloke with absolutely insane power. The 1-hit TKO was beautiful.
Late to the party here, but why are people so bothered by adults participating on their own free will in something where the risks are made abundantly clear. If you don’t like fist fighting, don’t watch it. But don’t put a ban on what someone else does with their body just because you don’t like it.
💜 Its a personal choice. I mean if they want to fight let them do it.
nuff said mate....:)....
@rambull Jr its funny how people say murica as an insult, when it's always associated with badassery.
True, everyone chooses their path. Every head injury is different though, sometimes wonder how these guys/gals will feel as they get older from those shots to the head.
