This why Taemin is the King of Kpop. Nobody there though did better than Taemin in the dancing dept. But in the vocal side, there is a challenger. The 1st guy in this video, we can't hide his personality in the name of Key. 👌

Taemin really knows when to stiffen and when to relax his body during the choreo..
And he's so good at isolation that he can relax/loosen parts of his body while the rest are stiff..
Taemin also has this fluidity that is deceiving.. cause it makes the choreo look easier than it actually is..
I always say that the true testament to taemins abilities as a dancer is when other people cover his dances..
So true! I was surprised that so many of these idols didn’t do that « T » move properly. Their arms were so loose when it is that one moment in the choreography where the body has to be as stiff as possible yet graceful. It looks so easy but clearly it is not if these professionals also struggle with it.
This is a very good point and honestly so true. He has such masterful control of his body it’s really just so impressive.
As a Tai Chi practitioner his dancing style actually reminds me a lot of Tai Chi. Not in the sense of what movents he makes but in terms how he moves...
It's the same in terms of changing between strenght and softness. always moving with power but without the movement being harsh and still fluid. Keeping tension without being tense... it's hard to describe in words.

Obviously Taemin does it best because he's Taemin and it's his song so he has practiced this choreo a lot more but the majority of this idols are really good in their own right. Yet I think the most common mistake is overdoing the choreo. Many try to do it faster or just with more force and it ends up looking wrong. Of course that's just because I've watched Taemin's version so much.
That's exactly what I thought. Them trying to do it so sharp, makes it wrong cause it's missing the elegance of the choreo

Exactly, Sista. Nobody can copy the King. Totally agree that most overdo it, but when learning new choreo I guess lots of ppl do that cuz they are concentrating so hard
exactly. i would say taemin dances so restrained but at the same time, so free. it feels powerful but not overdoing it, like trying to restrain it. when other dance to his songs, some can restrain that power but not enough. so it looks like the dance over power them instead of them overpowering the dance.

For real. Idea is very popular as well. It sucks that those types of shows are really mainly the most “popular” artists instead of the most quality artists

it’s because nobody knows how to truly appreciate art. but just because he doesn’t win an award doesn’t mean he didn’t impact anybody. the amount of covers to his dances and idols that talk about how he’s an inspiration, yoinks lol.

I don’t know everyone in this video, but they’re all clearly talented. Still, every time I watch someone try to imitate Taemin’s dance style, the thing I mostly notice is that none of them can. He’s an original, for sure. There’s nobody who can do it like him.
Yeah, they always look stiff/robotic when they do it. You can tell they are good dancers, they just can't imitate Taemin.

Clearly true, they have good moves and they are good dancers in general. But imo they overdance, in opposition to the spirit of the choreo. Taemin on the other hand is relax, he control his moves (not the contrary). I understand that all dancers have their own styles but imo you can be loyal to a choreo and add your personal touch, without loosing the original artistry. Btw i’m not a dancer just my observations. And i’m really glad that a lot of idols cover Taemin’s dances, they are so talented and passionate about their art

I agree that there is no one who can dance like Taemin. They come close, but it's his natural rhythm and his control that others just can't quite match. We know everyone on there can dance, but emulating Taemin is difficult due to the smoothness, fluidity, and grace, even when he is popping. It just isn't quite the same.
I have to be honest... I didn't realize how the dance movements could have looked so awkward or tense, until I saw some of the other idols' renditions. No hate on them, but just really amazed at how Taemin dances to his song with the perfect balance of grace and intensity. also just very happy to see idols of the new gen appreciating his music and skill 🥺
everyone doing great, but somehow i love the fact that taemin has his own style that can't be copied by others. we can see why he is the legend, taemin moves smoothly, clean, and looks so effortless yet powerful. it's full of elegance and beauty, so pleasing to watch

U've got tasteee my friend :) Hwanwoong was the chief (i dunno the position name, but basically the head and the best) in SOPA(Seoul Performing Arts)'s dance department, which is VERY impressive given that so many other idols went there and competition is huge, he was always the first place in dance evaluations for years until he graduated!

Ya'll remember him covering Move? When I saw it, I was went like "Woong covered it the best among other artists who covered Move." This is to say Woong was the closest to Taemin's style that managed to entrance me almost the same way Taemin have for most of us (becuz Woong still managed to show his own color to it which made it even more amazing)
I found Oneus from a video of Hwanwoong dancing to Want, he definitely has Taemin vibes! I can't wait to see where he goes.
This video just proves one more time why Taemin is a legend he is. Taemin makes it look so effortless and smooth, and only once you see other idols trying to copy, you understand the true dancing genious of Taemin ❤

I like it when they dance with their own syle instead of trying to imitate Taemin~ No one else can be Taemin but they can be themselves~
Also shout out to Byeongkwan for having to teach a new song each week, only getting a couple hours to practice said song, busy/tired from other schedules, and still slaying^^
Seeing all of these covers really shows, I feel, just how detailed, sharp, and fluid Taemin is in dancing overall. I feel like everyone hit one or two of these points, but very VERY rarely did another idol hit all three. They all did extremely well though -- Criminal is a really hard and complicated dance, and they were all definitely nervous, which probably didn't help.
Every idol has their own style of dancing. Obviously they won’t come close to matching every single move like Taemin because they aren’t Taemin. They’re their own person. I wouldn’t say they were nervous while dancing, more like showing their own style. That’s why it’s called a dance “cover”. I believe they all did amazing and great in their own way.
@@mari-bt7vh Oh, no, I agree, they were all amazing and great in their own way, but just because I talk about how some of their technical aspects are weaker (i.e., the level of detail, the fluidness) than Taemin's, I'm not calling them bad dancers. Some of it can be down to style, but a lot of it is down to the fact that they just don't have the experience with and the techniques for dancing as much as Taemin does right now. It'll come with time. They did extremely well, especially since, as you said, it's not their song and perhaps not even in their style.
I know about this song and choreo thanks to Hyunjin's cover and I think it was the first time for me enjoying a solo choreo and watching it multiple times cause of the fluidity of the movements, and he's still my fave besides the original and Rocky.
It's absurd the amount of different renditions that you can take out from the same choreo tho, as a non dancer I'm impressed almost by everyone

You know,they say,original has that charm,Taemin has his unique style and expressions that makes the song look so effortless and beautiful.All of these idols are really good,I'd say,but their styles are different,so sometimes trying to do this exactly doesn't as effortless.
Though,I think Astro's Rocky,I really like his style,maybe coz I'm a fan and I've watched his cover a no. of times....he has such fluidity and control over his body motions,and he added his own turns and style also,I'd say he's one of the best dancers in kpop,a bit underrated but even praised by idol choreographers for his dance.
There was a comment on the cover I think,where it said that Taemin's moves were like floating in air and Rocky's fluid like the water,and well,no comparison,but,just two amazing and multi-talented idols.

not even an aroha but Rocky is an amazing dancer. He has a lot of years of training in various styles and it shows. Of course he also has natural talent . He is one of the most underated dancers. He can nail every style he is on another level

Chanyoung and Hwanwoong were my favourites because they kept the elegance for me. Taemin is unbelievably talented, I couldnt even imagine attempting this choreo!
Taemin's style is both sharp and smooth. Flawlessly elegant and something that no one or a rare few can replicate. The ones who were doing it in their own style did it best. They were more relaxed, thus it's more pleasing to the eye. I like the VERIVERY guys. They performed cohesively as a group. Of course, the intro is the best. Love, love Kibum haha.

Ten does it so differently from Taemin, I think that's why his is so good is because he's not trying to imitate Taemin perfectly. Watching them dance side by side is interesting.
they are all great dancers but no one can top taemin's popping and locking istg, it looks so simple but it take lots of practice to master it. and he has control over his body, the way he emphasized /detailed them the way he want them to is just beyond art, he tells a story in short. no one can copy him.

Well the song and choreo is a masterpiece and Taemin is one of the many legends now in kpop and he's still so young.
the superm members did so well but they also had the advantage of dancing and training with taemin for a year lol.
but also i think everyone did a good job. esp miya from gwsn and sojin from weeekly. taemin's way of dancing is so unique and fluid that it's difficult to compare but all of these idols incorporated their own style into it and i just think that's neat.

I personally think based from these clips SKZ Hyunjin and Verivery (edit: also N.CUS Hojin) did it better than most for the guys... and Izone Chaeyeon for the girls...
Honorable mention for these guys: Lucente Taejoon & MCND Minjae cuz that part they did looks awesome (the knee drop + everything else)
PS. I'm not fan of any of the group/ members I mentioned but as a shawol and Taemin fan for long, they looked like they did an amazing job covering Criminal... also I have not seen any of these covers fully (so just basing solely on the clips) aside from ONEUS Hwanwoong and he always nails covering Taemin so I need not pointing out but his cover was also on point (still his cover for Move is the best one)

I think its cool to see that even really good dance covers dont have the same feel. Taemin puts so much work into the dances its insane.

it’s very interesting how lots of people in this video are super talented dancers but the moment they try a taemin choreography all their flaws come to light. The only ones that get close are the ones that are used to more fluid but sharp movements like chaeyeon, ten and hyunjin

In terms of aura and passion, Hyunjin nailed it for me. He came the closest to the original song style and vibe but dance wise Rocky's was the cleanest. I never thought the dance could look so distinct until the others tried it and it really is a choreography that is one for one. Taemin is something else.
i love how they put their own personality into the performance. my favorites would be chaeyoung and sojin because i think some of the boys overdanced, but i'll check out some of the full performances. thanks!

Not just that the cover dance was perfect, she really expressed that sexual attraction (did i say it right?) that Taemin has in his aura, and I really loved her cover the most.

Yeah, she honestly nailed it! It doesn't hurt that she looks similarly androgynous in this clip. It's something Taemin uses in his performances and she captured the same mood. It was definitely a standout cover to me.
It's not easy to copy his dance moves cause it's so unique but I love how they respect and love Taemin and tried to cover his dance moves since their idols too and I salute them
