If I could just relocate the drain plug..I wouldn't have to crawl under the car

It is a good habit to crawl there. To inspect suspension parts and bottom of the engine.

Great tutorial. Just a thought......those oil lines are now almost touching the header. What type of heat shielding are you going to use? Thanks for your time.

How much space does the actual bracket take up, as in depth by width? Trying to figure out if I should go single or double filter.

thanks for the info. Always though something was wrong with my temp gauge, because engine temps are always exceptionally low. Today, I realized that I have an oil cooler installed.

Installing one of these the first time, its always wise to break out the tool for prelube just like a new motor - lines need to be burped and leak checked.

This video was a very detailed explanation of how engine oil flows through the filter adapter to and from the remote oil filter on my 97 GMC K1500 SB! Thank you!

So, that rubber hose is okay right up against that header pipe? Also, whose filter relocation kit is that, JEGS?

    • @streetpower9936

thanks for the question. The rubber never directly touches the headers, with that said any heat source needs to be avoided with rubber as the heat will make it brittle and lead to failure. With these kits(oil filter relocate kit) your buying the kit for the engine (chevy, ford, dodge, etc.) not the car. In other words bbc vs 1970 Camaro. So things like headers and other things get in the way and have to be delt with. We just finished the install to show the plumbing of the system. Once the issues were identified the proper parts can be order. Moroso sells a filter adapter that will change the outlet to a 90 degree angle out of the engine block verses straight down like the current universal set up is.thanks again. Hopefully this clears things up. Kit was "DERALE Performance"

Can you mount the relocated filter higher then the level of the OEM? Or does it gave to be down hill of it or at the same level.....?
I ve heard mounting it uphill can lead to oil starvation

I just got this kit for my 89, my filter is angled and touches the header, good instruction

thanks for explaining this. i just got one of these kits and i was a bit confused but this clears it up. i ended up being pretty tight in clearance so i went to the hardware store and bought two 1/2" street elbows to immediately turn 90° as it exits the derale fixture from the block, otherwise i think i would've kinked the lines trying to turn too tight of a radius to clear the front differential yoke in my truck. i dont have it installed yet but hope to soon. does the engine block require a factory oil filter adapter in order to mount the derale fixture that bolts to the engine? i have a oil filter cooler housing that hangs down about 3" from the engine block now and theres no room to mount the derale fixture to that without hitting my diff. this is the whole reason I bought the kit after the engine swap because theres no room for the filter...
