- Hello, today I decided to spend another month coding a "small mod". This time we go back through Minecraft's old concept art, and bring it to life!

You could've made fireflies into a particle effect just like how spore blossom work. You just need a source blocks like a hollow nest or something and the fireflies will generate after placing. The reason i prefer them as particles is so that there won't be much lag in how many entities those groups of fireflies are. And not only those frogs leave them alone but also so the fireflies are more spread out than just clusters of glowing fruit flies. And lastly, the easiest part is that when you collect fireflies into a jar, interact with the source block to catch those said fireflies.
Well, what if there were those roaming swarms still? Spawning in swamps/mangroves.
You could capture them in a jar and then place them into a container (like an empty wooden beehive) then take that and use them as ambience wherever you want. It’d add some incentive for coming to those biomes too.

I've always wanted them as a particle effect, probably attached to tall grass or something. Then use a glass bottle and how you can interract with particles and you get a nicer looking and more performant result.
yeah, you need a lot of fireflies for the clumps to not look bad
The solution for the firefly was cool, that's a smart way to prevent lag. Also, I love the butterflies!

You should also add the birch forest biome and make the birch trees taller, as well as adding the fallen trees as shown in the concept art.
The trees did accidentally get taller, but mostly only in the old growth biome
this feels more vanilla than the wind charge and mace do.
The wind charge and mace thing just really screams mod to me

I'd would have loved to see you go all the way with the bugs tbh. That might be asking for a lot, but imagine worms and grubs for fertilization, or maybe tiny little beetles resting on trees.

This is really great, and also everything (except maybe butterfly models and the Rot) looks like it would fit in Minecraft perfectly! A lot of things modders do just looks REALLY out of place, but this doesn't!

The fireflies act more like mosquitos in swarms. I only have seen fireflies alone really

Also got me thinking about how Mojang would design their own butterflies and dragonflies, since these are more alike to their real world counterparts than Minecraft bees are to real life bees. Interesting thought experiment. Either way, these look so pretty.

You could add different firefly swarm sizes like mabe a massive swarm so you don't need so many individual smaller swarms to cover an area.
This makes the game feel so much more alive. The fireflies with shaders was absolutely breathtaking

The fireflies spawning in swarms is such a cool way to increase their density while not playing hell on the entity counts
seeing these concepts come to life made me smile in a way that no recent minecraft update has in a while

would add it on my vanilla-friendly survival just for the polypore fungi shelves.
These are some nice additions and a good job overall! It wouldve been nice to see the fallen logs though. If i can suggest 3 things, it'd be slowing the firefly animation speed, maybe having the rotted logs randomly spawn, and butterflies being able to land like parrots. Small things lol

Here’s an idea for the dragonflies:
Now real life dragonflies start their lives out as nymphs where they are aquatic and eat fish, until they rise out of the water and become adults. Maybe as nymphs, they can be aggressive towards fish and tadpoles. (Also thought the different colors when they mature depends on the temperature of water like the frogs.)
They do go hard with shaders

@@Sunshoop intellij, and kaupenjoes channel should teach you for making your own mods, modpacks, i guess watch some TH-cam videos about ambient mods, and just go ham on curseforge / modrinth lol

it would be amazing if someone added the prehistoric world of minecraft, like matpats prehistoric minecraft, when the master builder guys didnt exist, ores everywhere, the world full of life, colossal sniffers in nether forests, a colder nether with more forests, friendly piglins, no zombies, ender dragons everywhere in the end and other lifeforms, no endermen and pillagers, etc

The butterflies should breed with honey instead of flowers! But they are so cute. I think the fireflies are a little too dense, it would look better as a single flash that disappears, like irl.

What if you add cicadas into the game for an April fools joke, and then have it so that at 4 minutes, cicadas begin to spawn at an exponential rate? They wouldn’t do anything, prob wouldn’t even have an AI. They would just buzz extremely loudly. Only thinking it’d be funny cuz where I am right now there’s 2 cicadas broods that hatched at the same time and now at the foot of every tree is a pile of cicada shells and corpses

they are not no, but there is a public Github if you would like to edit the mod yourself!
firefly clusters should come in different volumes/sizes
one cluster could be composed of 2-3 of them and the others could be the ones in the vid:)
I immediatly subbed as soon you made the bugs huge like other arthropods.
Edit: Okay, would have prefered that fireflies were also like this and not 2 pixels, but arl.

Honestly I cannot remember if I put the entity type as arthropod. There was alot going on during coding this, and alot to get done in a short time.

Honestly, we need more coloured wood, a gray scale wood type seems fine but we do also need and been wanting Green and Blue (i know blue excist in the Nether but it could be so easy to add a overworld varient for blue), and i think we also deserve a purple wood type, we would have a expanded colour palet which would just be greate

What if the dragonflys wing translucent? Not sure if its possible but I think it would look nicer than the harsh white. Depending on the area youre in it can be pretty jarrin

the birch trees were all actually raised by a few blocks, its just less noticeable in regular birch forests, in old growth they are a fair bit taller
