You could've made fireflies into a particle effect just like how spore blossom work. You just need a source blocks like a hollow nest or something and the fireflies will generate after placing. The reason i prefer them as particles is so that there won't be much lag in how many entities those groups of fireflies are. And not only those frogs leave them alone but also so the fireflies are more spread out than just clusters of glowing fruit flies. And lastly, the easiest part is that when you collect fireflies into a jar, interact with the source block to catch those said fireflies.
Well, what if there were those roaming swarms still? Spawning in swamps/mangroves. You could capture them in a jar and then place them into a container (like an empty wooden beehive) then take that and use them as ambience wherever you want. It’d add some incentive for coming to those biomes too.

It'd be cool that Butterflies would sit on your head if you're not running for a while. If you wanna go the extra mile, they could provide Health Regen while they're on you (Cuz in Earthbound, butterflies heal you when they touch you)

These are some nice additions and a good job overall! It wouldve been nice to see the fallen logs though. If i can suggest 3 things, it'd be slowing the firefly animation speed, maybe having the rotted logs randomly spawn, and butterflies being able to land like parrots. Small things lol

I think the only thing I could critique is that the animation for the fireflies is too dense. Like there are a few too many present. When you see so many on screen or even in a single "mob" it just feels more like a swarm rather than individual bugs :o Other than that? Honestly, this is what I would have asked for as an update. What if you add cicadas into the game for an April fools joke, and then have it so that at 4 minutes, cicadas begin to spawn at an exponential rate? They wouldn’t do anything, prob wouldn’t even have an AI. They would just buzz extremely loudly. Only thinking it’d be funny cuz where I am right now there’s 2 cicadas broods that hatched at the same time and now at the foot of every tree is a pile of cicada shells and corpses
it would be amazing if someone added the prehistoric world of minecraft, like matpats prehistoric minecraft, when the master builder guys didnt exist, ores everywhere, the world full of life, colossal sniffers in nether forests, a colder nether with more forests, friendly piglins, no zombies, ender dragons everywhere in the end and other lifeforms, no endermen and pillagers, etc

You should also add the birch forest biome and make the birch trees taller, as well as adding the fallen trees as shown in the concept art.
The trees did accidentally get taller, but mostly only in the old growth biome
It'd be cool that Butterflies would sit on your head if you're not running for a while.

I love this! You should make it so you can catch the bugs in bottles or jars and place them down and keep them as pets, that'd be adorable.
You could add different firefly swarm sizes like mabe a massive swarm so you don't need so many individual smaller swarms to cover an area.
Seeing the way the chrysalis is on the ground and how you added the single block branch right after is making my brain eat itself

Honestly I cannot remember if I put the entity type as arthropod. There was alot going on during coding this, and alot to get done in a short time.

Missed the taller birch trees, but everything else was awesome
the birch trees were all actually raised by a few blocks, its just less noticeable in regular birch forests, in old growth they are a fair bit taller
It would've been pretty funny if halfway through showing it to your friends it became a horror mod
